Title: Suzu's GS portraits
Post by: suzumebachi on 25, October, 2009, 12:03:00 AM
In the spite of Forum Alex of The Adepts of Weyard, I make Golden Sun portraits. Well, Alex is probably my biggest competitor XD. Aside that, here's some of my work.

(http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a211/unigisellegk/suzume.jpg) Human Suzu... until I made her an Adept....
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/suzume.jpg)The original Jupiter Adept Suzu (There's a Human Suzu, but I can't find it)
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/suzumebachi.jpg)Suzu with short hair
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Suzu.png)Suzu with short hair, but in a traditional angle. Her hair is too light.

(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Isaac1.jpg)The original Redragon
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Redragon.jpg)The second one. I don't like it
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Redragon-1.png)The third one pwns the second one. Ha ha. Well, he only has one eye, but that's okay :3

(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Phantom.jpg) My friend Phantom. I hope to redo this soon. When I do get the chance, I'll edit this post.
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/phantomscary.gif) She asked for a new one. YAY

(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Jenna.jpg) Sabre Dance, a Jenna edit. I think I'll redo her, too.

(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Kaito.jpg) Kaito, Sabre's friend. AKA Masked Felix.

(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Alex.gif) Forum Alex never used this icon.

(http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a211/unigisellegk/Cate.gif) Random other icons I'm finding.... this is Cate, Nick/Ryan/all those other people's friend

(http://fc07.deviantart.com/fs50/f/2009/305/b/a/Role_Icon_a_by_Sachiaoitori.png) Role v1
(http://i804.photobucket.com/albums/yy326/SuzumebachiSecret/Role.png) Role v2 - 16 color palette, and hopefully I didn't forget to delete any extra colors.

I pretty much graduated from editing icons... I do take requests, but I try not to miff Alex too much on TAOW. Hm, what else..... Oh. Right. Sometimes, I don't have the time to make my icons, since I get in trouble a lot....XD.... I'll say more later.... Good night!

You... YOU SAVED THOSE AS JPGS!!

So many of them are so good... but since you saved them as JPGs their quality is thrown out the window... try saving them as PNGs.

All of those but 2 are saved as JPGs.. You'll be glad to hear that Suzu's third portait is .png.

The last one that resembles Alex is .gif.

Those look nice!!

Oh yeah... Cool, I like them. However, CHaron is right about quality being destroyed... You might be able to save them with Photopsuite or Photoshop though. I once did it with a .bmp converting into a .gif.

Oh well, please keep up the good work.

Have a nice day.

Converting a .bmp (Which is uncompressed, full quality) to a .gif is different than trying to remove the artifacts from a .jpg

Just so you know if you intend to do portrait editing in the actual game, when it's possible, they're limited to a 16 color palette (One of which is always transparent, but not used by any of the official portraits)

Heh, lol. They're all saved in various formats because at some point, the chat box on The Adepts of Weyard stopped accepting all of my .gifs..... (How  could they? >..>)  Although I absolutley hate .jpgs, I somehow got into a drift that only jpgs work.... but when I made the 3rd Suzu, I figured that pngs work too..... *that was a long pointless drabble ish post*

Anyways. I would generally use .gifs, because I started pixel-art-ing (eh?) on this online MMORPG which didn't accept .png.....

The .gif version of 2nd Suzu is my avatar. It died as a .jpg.

Oh, and 3rd Red is a .png, too.

*did I forget anything I was going ot say?*

.jpgs are horrible, unless it's something like a photo.  They degrade quality way too much...

Well, THERE'S your problem! [/mmohatespeech]

If you've got some place that has an irrational hatred of the almighty PNG, then what you should do is save two versions - first as PNG, the second as a format that whatever the site/game wants.  You may want to separate them by folder as well... in your Image Folder on your compy/lappy/netty, have your normal png files, and a folder for other formats.  If you need something that's not PNG, you can just run find the alt-format in the folder.  At least, that's what I do with images I make.

Anywho, Suzu, I'd have asked you to do the art for me, but... :x

I didn't wanna seem like I was just mooching art from you, since I found you on DA because of it...

Oh, well, in that case...

Here's the challenge.  Who can do it better?  You?  Or Alex?  Translate that from NIS style to Camelot's style, and shrink it in size and palette to be GS-sized.

Also, if anyone can find a pic of a PRISM MAGE, that'd be great.  A Red Mage is okay, I suppose, but there's just one major problem... it's clearly Mars elemental.  At least Prism Mages LOOK Jupiter elemental.  I can find the sprite for the prism mage, but not the portrait pic... T-T

As of now. I still need to adjust it (I had to do it with my mouse, since I lent my tablet to Nokoribi of TAOW) and kill the palette, but here it is of now!

Fairly decent. Doesn't look smiley anymore though. Looks rather sad actually.

That's true. I think it might be contributed to the angle of her right eye...

It looks great for a first shot at it.  Don't worry about the smile, though.  After all, how many GS characters are smiling on their portrait?  There's just not enough room to show an expression other than 'neutral'.

Or they need the ability to compensate for changing the character's mood.......

And they didn't want to make a bunch of expression portraits, like in Pokemon Mystery Dungeons (idk which one.... Saw some of my friends playing it)

I think all of the latest Pokemon Mystery Dungeons have enough expression portraits, but they are not well detailed. Better to one well detailed portrait for each character than several othersw for other characters.

Very nice Prism Mage Suzume. I think you should make most of the portrait pictures for characters in the community hack.

Have a nice day.

Very nice portraits Suzumebachi! Except for the second redragon though... The hair looks odd.

How flattering... thanks, though. and @ Sajin, I agree, and thanks ^^

I forgot my flash drive at school, so I can't work on Role right now, sadly, but I'll get it back soon!

Wait, she did a prism mage?  Where?  I know she did the Red Mage, but...

I agree with you about the portraits for the community hack, she'd do an excellent job.

Mix up, perhaps? Where's Prism Mage from? Final Fantasy?

Yes, it was a mixup.

Red Mage AND Prism Mage are from Disgaea.  Look at the sprites in my siggy - Red Mage is the first, Prism is the 5th.

Oh cool, I did not know that. I assumed that Red Mage was from Final Fantasy because, well... They have one too.

Also, when can we expect more portraits Suzume?

Have a nice day.

To alleviate that, I altered my siggy.  Good thing, too.  Apparently the sprites that I'd used to make it?  They were DOUBLE SIZE. @_@

No wonder they looked weird on my resolution.  Fixed them, now they're size-accurate, and labeled!  Plus, I'm gonna start rotating my avi... Papa's gonna be making me a tool to allow me to do so automatically and still have it work on forums! Go Papa!

Other than Atrius, my Papa's the best programmer I know!  Not a big gamer, though, so don't ask him to help out on the project.

Anywho, I hope the labeling and what not will help quite a bit in terms of terminology for what I ask for.  After all, my in-game cameo/programmer's joke sprite will be a prism mage, done GS style...

I could do some more tomorrow (we have the day off because of Veterans' Day), but I usually do them on request. Tomorrow, I'll revise Role's Prism Magey icon. And regarding the 16-color-palette on icons, I'm not sure if this applies to the portraits, because, for example, Sheba's background color doesn't seem to be on the 16 color, and her hair has at least 2 shades of yellow that are not listed (I just happen to have Sheba's icon on my desktop and was looking at it earlier)

They do have a 16 color limit, but they don't use the same palette as icons.  They each have their own custom 16 color palette (One of which must be transparent, but often isn't used, so really 15 color palette)
Title: Re: Re: Suzu's GS portraits

So basically, any 15 colors, so long as the R, G, and B values on the colors are multiples of 8.

Post by: suzumebachi on 10, November, 2009, 11:48:35 PM
Okai, that means I get to make my own palettes XD

But that still will need work, considering quite a few have a lot more colors than 15....

Not to mention they probably have color values that can't be displayed.

I reduced Role's icon to 16 colors, but have one question regarding "multiples of 8".... Are these the numberd in the Hexidecimal code? if so, what are the letters? if not, how do you get these numbers?

Decimal: 00, 08, 16, 24, 32, 40, etc...
Hex:  00, 08, 10, 18, 20, 28, etc...

So for hex, it's 8 and 0 only for the 1s digit, and any number up to F for the 10s digit.

Examples:

#F05898, or R240 G88 B152
#9020E8, or R144 G32 B232
#38C078, or R56 G192 B120

Hmm... okay. Can I assume #FFFFFF can be used, although F is not 8 or 0?

No, the closest you can get to white is #F8F8F8
