Done mostly up to Lemuria. Let me know if any weapons up to this point are unedited, or if any enemies can't use a skill because I converted it into a Psynergy. Beware of a certain potentially overpowered weapon or two... I may need to nerf the Shaman's Rod and Corsair's Edge (Ruinous Edge)
Things edited:
Pilgrim (Wind) series has become a completely different class, with completely different Psynergy and a focus on more fighter-like skills.
The Dragoon's Ply series has been replaced with a Mars elemental Psynergy that costs 0 PP, but drains half the damage healed from the caster's HP!
Various bosses now have some friends to help them. Of notable mention are Briggs and the Avimander.
Serpent changes colours depending on how weakened he is.
Axes give 140% of their original attack values, but lower the wielder's Defence by 40% of their original attack value.
Staves give 60% of their original attack values, but give 40% of their original attack values to Elemental Power.
Ankhs give 60% of their original attack values, but give 40% of their original attack values to Elemental Resistance.
Maces give 70% of their original attack values, but give 30% of their original attack values to Max PP.
Light Blades give 80% of their original attack values, but give 20% of their original attack values to Agility.
Ending Blow! Various items are available that will bestow Psynergies that cost close to all of your PP to do an insane amount of damage with similarly insane secondary effects (500 power + possibility to do that damage to PP instead and drain damage dealt FTW. Ah well, at least its power level isn't OVER NINE THOUSAND! On second thought, I may have to make a version with over 9000 power, now that I've mentioned it. Of course, you can expect PP cost to be similarly stellar...)
Wind18! A new Psynergy with a temporary name, this move heals all party members by a maximum of 500 HP and costs only 5 PP... but it drains 10% of HP healed from the caster's PP! This Psynergy actually costs quite a lot, even when you use it for minimal healing.
There are various other things I haven't bothered to mention, you'll find them out for yourself.
UPDATE! Fixed exp and Coin rewards from some enemies that had no rewards, which is odd cause I swear I've fixed them before. I also fixed some problems with Maces.

Well, from what you have told me, it seems like it would be a good hack. However, if you can patch this, then you will be playing my first attempt as atching your hack (I never did any modifications).
I will try redownloading your patch again though, just in case something happened...
Jamie + ???'s somewhat crazy hack.
Patch the hack on a different English version of the game, and you might get the same results that I did (there were two different trials, both with strange results).
Have a nice day.
Upload it right here! Click "additional options" and then attach it!
Thanks! I never saw that before... Either that, or I did, but I completely forgot. Something like that. Anyway, I have reuploaded it.
Have a nice day.
This appears to just be my patch. It seems to me you're using the wrong ROM.
If you'd give me your E-mail address, I could tell you where I got mine and then maybe it would work.
Hm... Okay, but I would prefer to send it in a private message. Is this okay?
Have a nice day.
It is your patch? Huh... I could have sword that I patched the version of the game which I had already patched, and had glitched. I guess versions do nto mix well when repatching. Oh well.
Strange... There's only one English language version of the game that I'm aware of.

No wonder.
You always patch a clean file, never patching a previous version.
Well, at first I thought I did patch a clean version. However, something strange happened, and some things did not make ANY sense. I guess... Oh, okay then... I will remove the apparently messed up version, but I will give instructions as to how to make it messed up (seems random too). If you do not get the same results, then this means that I patched too many files on top of each other... So, instructions will probably be better (expect the unexpected).
Now to check my Email...
Have a nice day.
Holy sh-*is shot* that's one awesome looking hack there Jamie! Wait a sec... You're only done up to Lemuria? Well good luck with finishing it, D00d!
Okay, so I've been thinking. (oh sh-)
Well, the Temple has recently had a large uprise of "Let's Play"'s, right? So why don't I make a Let's Play for this? I mean really, I don't think I've made a single contribution here, and this could possibly get quite a few more people to try out the hack, and maybe a couple new members. So far, I'm only up to Garoh, and I've skipped the desert, so I won't be backtracking much.
Of course, you're free to disagree.
EDIT: Of course only being able to get up to Lemuria would be a problam, as well as potential glitches... Hey I can use a save file from this patch on a later version of it, right?
You should be able to, yes.
I may, however, occasionally edit things before Lemuria in later versions, you know, small bits of editing/bugfixing any weapons I might have missed or enemies to make them actually challenging.
How did you skip the Desert?
Well, not skip, but temporarily walk around it to get to Garoh.
So, do you think it will be a good idea?
Huh, interesting. I can't wait to see what you do when we get the v0.3 editor, since you'll be able to rename the classes (FINALLY...)
@Insul: Yes, you could do that, it might be interesting.
Hint: When you get to Kibombo (sp?) mountains, make sure you Djinn-kill some faeries or whatever they're called, they drop an item that you REALLY won't want to miss. So do the treewalker thingies in Gaia Rock.
@Role: Yeah, the Pilgrim (wind) class is going to get renamed, as are all the ? and <element>18 and <element>19 Psynergies.
Does anyone know how to make it so that abilities show up in the right order in your Psynergy menu? My Pilgrim class has a bit of a problem in that all it's attacks are out of order, which makes it even harder to know what the ? Psynergies do.
Edit: Here's a patch with a MAJORLY GLITCHED Pilgrim class, of course, you'll have to give Sheba Mars Djinn or Jenna Jupiter Djinn to use it. Note that to get stage 3 of the class, Sheba needs 5 Mars Djinn and one Jupiter Djinni.
Is it like that on purpose, or did you not notice you changed the required element levels?
I changed the requirement levels on purpose, so that you didn't have to BEAT POSEIDON before you got to use Fire Psynergy in the class.
You can just give it fire psynergy right off the bat, and just upgrade it like was done in the trainer's whip. Or hell, ALL EPAs...
I could perhaps, but I'm not actually sure if that would cause Jenna to learn it right from the start...
You'd probably be complaining a LOT more if you'd checked the effects of the last two "?" Psys that Fire Monk learns... you know, the ones learned at 60 and 75?
I'm debugging here, not judging. You wanted help debugging, so I'm here. If you wanted criticism on your ideas, then you should have said so. So for now, I'm just going to help you fix your bugs, and not complain about who you gave what.
Alright, let's try to figure out this class system error so I can see if it's something I need to fix in the editor, or what.
To help me out for starters I would like a copy of your save file where you're experiencing the error, Jamie, and the MD5 checksum of both you, and Role's original unmodified files of The Lost Age. (You can use this program (http://www.elgorithms.com/downloads/dwldprg.php?prg=0) to calculate it, use the Unicode version)
Alright, first thing: I also cannot get ABILITIES to change in-game, despite the changes showing up in the editor.
Also, MD5 checksum of WHAT? The save file? The game itself?
I have a feeling there's a possibility that may be related to the other problems, I'll look into it either way.
The MD5 checksum of your original unhacked copy of The Lost Age itself.
Is it OK to post it in the topic, or do I need to PM you?
An MD5 checksum is just a string of characters to check if files are identical or not, there's no problem posting it here.
489C76FC7DE7B5B930345B96C0BB95EE <there it is.
And as for the save file, can I post it here? It would be difficult to send it in PM (because there's no "attach" option for PMs), unless I uploaded it somewhere, which would be potentially even more risky.
The only thing you really can't post are commercial ROM files themselves, or specific information on how to obtain them. Yes save files are fine.
*see attached* V Note: Yes it is just a save file.
First thing I notice is that your copy of the game is different from mine. After getting my hands on yours, and inspecting the differences I've determined that a custom script was inserted into it that's executed before the game boots. I'm not certain what the purpose of the script is, but none of the data in the game has been altered so I doubt it's contributing to the problems.
After putting all of Sheba's Djinni to stand by, and setting them all again the errors seem to have fixed themselves, are you sure you reset her class properly after making edits?
I have reset her class properly, I've done it several times, the errors still haven't fixed themselves.
Would you mind stepping me through what exactly you did so I can see if I can duplicate the results?
Well, first I put the abilities in the order learned, then I decided to put them in the right order, but in doing so I had duplicates of some abilities at times.
... And so far as resetting Sheba's class, but still getting the errors?
What do you mean by "resetting"? If what you mean is Djinn, I standby'd and then reset every djinni on Sheba, and tried the same on Jenna. It didn't work, when I set the Djinn back, she still had duplicate Psynergy, and the duplicates were the same as before.
Apparently you gave me the wrong save file then, Jenna doesn't have any duplicate Psynergy.
Jenna doesn't have duplicates, but they are all in the wrong order.
*sets all of her djinni to standby at the same time, then sets them all again*
Fixed it. I assume you are using the last version of the patch you uploaded applied to the same copy of TLA you gave me the MD5 hash for?
Yes I am. So using Standby All/Set All works? Ok I'll try that.
Edit: Strange, I tried that, didn't work for me.
I've also started a new game on that save which also didn't work, still has the glitchy duplicates.
Heh, hah hah.
I think I see whats going on. Do this for me, in VBA go to Options > Emulator, make sure that "Automatic IPS patching is not checked, then reload the ROM file (don't just reset the emulator, completely reopen the ROM file through the file menu), and try resetting their classes again.
That did it! Thanks!
Now I just feel stupid. XD
Yippy!
Role was seeing the wrong information in the editor because she didn't patch a clean version of TLA, she likely applied it over the previous version of your patch.
EDIT: It's not uncommon at all in debugging to find such a simple cause to a complex problem. I can't tell you how many times I've felt like an idiot after solving errors in programs I wrote.
Epic Question: Does anyone have any good ideas for single-element item classes? Make sure to theme them.
I currently have a Defensive Venus class, and am in need of Jupiter, Mars, and Mercury classes.
Each class must have its elemental Card ability from the Pierrot series as its last ability. All are edited to have 340 power and an appropriate psynergy cost.
Not so epic answer: I've got some ideas for class lines.
For Mars:
Flamecaller=> Firestarter=> Fire Master=> Flamelord => Undying Flame
For Jupiter:
Loner=> Drifter=> Traveller=> Wanderer=> Nomad=> Exile
For Mercury: (This one may remind you of Mint from ToP GBA)
Healer=> Preist=> Cleric=> Bishop=> Archbishop= Cardinal
I've not wrote spell lists for the class lines because I'm sure that someone else can come up with better class lines (plus I'm not good at making balanced classes)
Problem, spell lines are what I really need, along with some sort of focus for the class, examples: Defence, Offence, Status, Healing. Whatever that class's theme is, that's what they do, and they do pretty close to nothing else. However, what they do, they do REALLY WELL.
Well, if it matters my Mars class line is focused more on offense, the Jupiter class line is more status based spells and the Mercury class line is based around healing.
I guess that works, but then that follows the stereotypes too much. Ah well, I guess a defensive earth class is stereotype too...
So, what is it exactly that you are after, new classes or new abilities to go with new classes?
I do have a new idea for a Venus class series, which should have one or two abilities similar to the summoning ones.
Woodworker > Crafter > Mason > Architect > Stonemason
So, how does this work for you? You would mainly have stone/ground based psynergies in here (no Ragnarok/Odyssey until Architect > Stonemason though), with little to no healing. You could throw in the Thorn series because of Woodworker, and maybe a new summoning psynergy that summons something like Stone Soldier, Wild Mushroom, or Clay Gargoyle? Of course, this new psynergy would be replaced by a better one as you go higher with classes. Most of the new psynergies would also be single target only, and can level up in a similar way to a multi-target series.
Have a nice day.
I told you, I already have a Venus class, though that could work for the name.
I'm looking for single-element item classes.
I know, but that was just a suggestion that you could use for when you can make new classes (since I think you asked for them at one point too?).
Anyway, single element item classes which are not Venus... Hm...
Sorry, I will have to get back to you with ideas, although I am thinking of something like "Buoy Master" or something.
Have a nice day.
News: Have done the Jupiter class. Needing Mars and Mercury classes now.
Once I have Mars and Mercury class ideas, I can post an update to my hack and get back to work!
And Insul, if you're still in existence, have you done any more of the LP?
Pyromaniac > Pyrokinetic > Pyroseer > Flame Guardian > Flame Commander?
In here can include the Fire, Fume, Volcano, and Blast psynergies. I would throw in Manticore and/or Pheonix (but they would be preceded by Cerberus and Salamander), and then one or two enemy only attacks in here as well (like Rolling Flame, and possibly Rising Dragon to replace the Fume series at the highest level).
I hope this idea helps you continue on your hack. As for Mercury ideas... Still thinking of some.
Have a nice day.
Update! This patch goes up until Isaac and Co join the party, including their inventories and level (I haven't tested them yet though, so there might be problems), though Isaac and Garet don't have their limit-break style moves yet, they do have the item that bestows it, meaning it'll be as upgrading to the next patch when I release them. (They'll come in a future update when I have inspiration.) Ivan and Mia do, however, have their limit-breaks. Mia's limit break heals the entire party to full, and causes them to regenerate HP. This should be useful. (the offsetting factor is the PP cost: 255, the highest it can possibly be)
A tip when fighting Moapa: Crucible Fire (bestowed by the Hestia Blade) can be cast even when Psy Sealed. This has the added benefit of the fact that it doesn't cost any PP when you're Psy Sealed. Use this fact to lower Moapa and the Knights' Agility to give yourself time to attack in between them spamming their Sealing Stones. This fight is only hard because of the fact that you don't get Psynergy for most of it. And don't try to summon spam, you'll be crushed completely. Bosca Hit will do upwards of 300 damage when you're in such a low class. Combined with the low HP bonuses when you have such a low class, and most party members will be felled instantly.
Also note that when fighting Moapa, you get all your items back after the battle. That includes Vials, Potions, Mist Potions, etc., so don't be afraid of using your powerful healing items.
Was buggy. Iz fixed now.
I got an idea for the names of venus class, I think
Blader-Prodigy-Juggernaut-Savior-Legend.
you can Just shut my mouth this is just my opinion.
