Title: The official Golden Sun Dark Dawn Review Thread
Post by: Charon on 29, November, 2010, 08:11:25 AM
User reviews can be posted here to open prevent the forum from being overloaded with any reviews.

Please keep these pointers in mind when reviewing the title:

1. No spoilers, and if their are spoilers necessary, please hide them in the spoiler tag. The Official Spoiler Policy is located here, please read it before posting. (http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?topic=947.0)

2. Please be realistic and honest. Don't just give the game a 10/10 because you've been waiting for it for 7 years. Give it good reason for a 10/10.

3. Go into depth with features and explain clearly your opinion of the game.

Also, I'll give an average user score if we get enough user reviews. (a 10 point system is reccommended but feel free to use whatever point system you like, I don't mind converting)

Current Average: 8 out of 10

I'm not good at writing reviews, SO HERES A BUNCH OF OPINIONS.

It was a really fun, long game that felt a lot like the old games. It was great seeing all of the psynergies and summons in 3D, and even the same monsters are back in 3D.

Anyway spoiler thing JUST IN CASE.
The game was bogged down with lots of dialogue, however. But I don't mind, I really liked the story!

It was awesome that each djinn got it's own look! A great touch!

It annoyed my and my sister that they teased us with Peirs so much and he never shows. In fact, no-one except Issac and Garet showed up! I want to see more Heroes of Vale!

It was really obvious who the masked man was as soon as he showed up, lol.

The main plot was actually quite tragic and felt very significant. DEATH!

I've found that I havn't developed much attachment to the new characters. Hell, Matthew and Tyrell feel like copypastas. And the second earth adept girl? No development at all. She shows up with her required psynergy and doesn't do anything significant beyond that. I like her battle psynergies, though.

Sveta's beast form KICKS @#$.

DARK ADEPTS EXIST? Radical. Too bad we'll never get to control one

THERE'S GONNA BE A SEQUEL YESSSS at least they left it open for one so let's not wait another bunch of years, guys.
Anyway four venus djinni out of five

Drick, I thought that all the dialogue was necessary to fill in the 30 year gap between games, and then the history within each town and the main plot!

The originals certainly had their fair share of text too, if dark dawn didn't I would have been severely disappointed.

It's absolutely horrible once you go through a second playthrough. You don't even care that time, I was tapping the damn stylus so much it started to hurt ;-;

You know you don't really need to use the stylus >< -.-

Well I could push the button with the same effect >_> bottom line, too much dialogue that you're not able to easily skip.

Hehehehe, true .... a simple skip option at the bottom of the screen would be nice ><

Especially for the intro. The excessive dialogue is the only real reason deterring me from a second playthrough.

The forced tutorials are awful too. Even if you do what is expected before being asked, they still continue to talk.

Have a nice day.

And the A button does NOTHING. Ugh... I think even the first two games would let you do that. You weren't even allowed to skip the djinn introduction if I recall correctly  :fury:

I must admit, the introduction was horrifically long, even for the first time.
It just recaps the first two games for people who are new to GS and still,
they make the Sun Saga for you to find as well. I'm probably going to see the
intro a third time when I replay the game because the second time was due to
me having to restart early due to the point of no return (djinn collecting).

Yeah, I was really annoyed to find that there were Djinn that you can actually COMPLETELY MISS AND NEVER HAVE A CHANCE TO GET AGAIN.

Oh well. 2/4 optional bosses down, I can do this without them.
