Title: A Little Witch's Sprite Rips
Post by: Rolina on 27, April, 2014, 01:52:49 AM
So I've decided to create sprite rips for as much as I can in the game.  This means all those separated sprites, like summons?  I'll be stitching them together and providing them in preset sizes.  I'll try to keep to the sizes of the GS sprites - 16/32/64/128/256 pixel sizes.

Here's the Master List.  More will be added as time goes on, in later posts.

Sweet.

Where do you think's ultimately a good home for them?  I imagine you want to share them with the world, and perhaps get credited when people use your stuff.

They're not my art, I should not take credit for them.  I put them together, sure, but it's Camelot who needs to be credited, not me.  And what do you mean by "good home for"?

It's poor practice to take credit for something you didn't make. I mean, they do the work of ripping the sprites so I think it's fine to put a name there, but some rippers make it sound like the sprites are their work.

Exactly!

I do have a small problem with people requiring credits for other people's work when it's obvious that even if you took their rips, they don't even have a way of knowing you took the work from their rips...

Even worse if they're ripping it out of YOUR editor, and then asking for credit without any note of the fact they took it from the easy way - using your editor. (Yep, it's happened with someone using my YM editor once, but I'm not going to say any names. - And I did not confront them for it, either. - All I can say is that I read a few topics, and they were uploaded to spriter's-resource.)

I'm not  familiar with these concerns, but I understand how they can be an issue.

If you don't want to post these rips to a sprite database of some kind, then posting them in a thread with a more precise name may help people find them via online search engines.

Yeah, my comment was implying that I view that practice with great distaste.  I think Mis and Teawater got my meaning.
