Alex followed closely by Saturos and karst.

Alex yeah! My favourite antagonist by a long shot.
I wouldn't consider Masked Felix a antagonist though...

I voted for Menardi. Aex seems kind of like a jerk, despite being a neat character. Besides, Menardi was smart enough to leave Saturos at Mercury lighthouse, or else she herself would have been weakened.

Have a nice day.

"Relax, you will not be hurt." Most bad-@#$ line in the game FTW!

Saturos is my second favourite, cause Karst and Agatio are both idiots. Menardi wasn't too smart either sometimes. She's also too blood-thirsty.

My favourite antagonist? Briggs. Seriously. No other has brought as much lulz as that pirate did.

Yeah, I would have most likely voted for Briggs if it were at least an "Other" option.

Other possible antagonists (anything from a battle to a simple conversation):

Briggs
Wise One
Conservato
Moapa
Briggs Mother (forget her name, for about the same length of time as Briggs)
Dodonpa

And this is all that I can think of for now.

Have a nice day.

Conservato doesn't count as an antagonist.  He's more of a stubborn old mule.

Personally, I liked Karst.  Dunno why, but she's waaaay better than Menardi to me.

That is probably because she has a bit more of a known personality, and is seen more often. To me, Menardi is actually the nicest of these characters, despite being from Prox.

I only said that Conservto could be considered an antagonist because he threatens Piers, saying that Piers would be unable to return (evenhtually, in my own hack when we can edit scripts, I am going to make it so King Hydros was overthrown by Conservato, and his threat becomes a reality).

Have a nice day.

No, the dude lives in fear.  That's why he's so stubborn.  He (or possibly a parent or grandparent) probably was alive during the nightmare that led to the sealing of alchemy in the first place, so he probably has some REALLY good reasons behind his belief.  But he doesn't openly act against the heroes, nor does he try to stop them.  He DISAPPROVES, but he doesn't interfere.

You are correct. Well then, he is an antagonist for being stubborn, and for not agreeing with the heroes.

Have a nice day.

That alone doesn't qualify.  You may wanna look the definition up again.

I know what antagonist means.  :fury:

However, there are so few antagonists in the game, so I am just moving the line at which a character becomes an antagonist. I doubt that I could call Dullahan an antagonist, for example, or the mayor of Alhafra.

Have a nice day.

...You have no idea what an antagonist is.  Dullahan?  He's the guy who tests your power to see if you're worthy of a greater power.  That's NOT the role of an antagonist, that's the role of a Guardian of Great Power.

i was tlking about the main-ish ones, im sorry about briggs and all those other ones but i was having a slow day. anyway, salanewt the wise one would not be an antagonist.

Squizzy, you were talking about the ACTUAL antagonists.  The others are too minor to be considered to be antagonists.  Briggs' sub-story is - le gasp - one huge sidequest all in the name of getting to the other side of the world.  Basically, most of the foes that ONLY hold importance on the western sea are minor, side-quest type nuisances.  Only Karst, Agatio, and to an extent, Alex, can count as true Antagonists in GS2.

Ah well, I still prefer him, regardless of whether he's major or minor. He was the only one who seemed to have much personality, which is saying a lot :x
Title: Re: favourite antagonist
Post by: Salanewt on 14, November, 2009, 10:45:05 PM
Yep.

As for antagonist or not, I know what it means. However, I consider any character that I fight at any time to be an antagonist, even if it ranges from Alex' objectives to one who does not seem like an antagonist, but ticks me off. I call them antagonists even though they are not.

Besides... Camelot really needs to come up with more antagonists for the next game, lol. There are even more in the Mario game series, and that isn't saying much either (considering that it is either Bowser, or a one time only boss). However, Mario is off topic.

So, even though he is not one, he stands in my way to "test me", so I vote for Dullahan now... Actually, I prefer Star Magician, so...

Have a nice day.

Besides, if a character wants to stab a sword into me, why don't they just say that?
Title: Re: favourite antagonist

That makes him a popular character, not necessarily an antagonist, though.  And yeah, Briggs was great, but...  There's only like 5 real antagonists in the series (6 if you consider the Wise One as an antagonist).  And he ain't one of them.

And Salanewt, for the last time, one-shot, optional monsters that act to guard powerful beings do NOT COUNT AS ANTAGONISTS.  Antagonists, BY DEFINITION, are recurring foes that the heroes confront several times throughout the story.

Role is right. Dullahan, Star Magician, Valukar and Sentinel are just one time bosses, not antagonists. They don't even have a background story (maybe except for the fact that they protect Summon Tablets though).

Look, I apologize. I do know what an antagonist is, and I know that these characters are not antagonists (the bosses). However, I do not really like any of the actual antagonists, so I can not pick my favourite.

Have a nice day.

THEN SAY SO!  Jeez, if you know that a one-shot boss isn't an antagonist, then why were you so insistent that they be counted as one?  The rules and definitions of things don't bend as you want them, you know...

You kept trying to say that those were the ones you liked best, though... Posting your 'favorite boss' has nothing to do with this topic, after all.  Alex is NEVER a boss, but has ALWAYS been an antagonist.  That alone should hint that this isn't just a boss topic.

I know. However, it would be odd after a while to keep posting.

And, if I must... I will continue to go with Menardi.

Have a nice day.

Well, the general rule is that if you can't contribute to the topic, DON'T POST.  You don't see me posting in the Canadian Politics Debate, do you?  It's because I have nothing to contribute.

Well, at first, I was looking at Antagonists, which is Menardi. However, I decided that I did not like any of them, so I went to bosses for some reason, and then back to Menardi.

Have a nice day.

I'd have to say Alex, He's always calm, never angry and oh so mysterious,
I wish they'd given him a bit more backstory, Mia was right there for the whole of the first game, why didn't you ask her about him???

I like the way Menardi/Saturos and Karst/Agatio never notice That he's just using them for his ulterior motives, shows their one minded-ness

Alex wins by a long shot!
I mean now after playing the first two games i went back and Alex is pulling the strings every where!
not by much but just enuff to change the out come of the events.

this may be off topic but in the beginning he comes across as dumb, then the first light house he comes across as a god of water because some how from between the start of the game 3 years ago and now he left Ilm met the right people and mastered Water!

the whole thing of not seeing Alex after Jupiter light house is because while you fight  :Agatio: :Karst: .. well he takes Isaac's ship to head to vale! which means Isaac can't run and has to join you and he knows Isaac will join you to light the mars after you explain the problem, so he has a back up plan if  :Agatio: :Karst: don't light the mars light house, he has the ones that beat > :Saturos: :Menardi: and the ones that beat > :Agatio: :Karst: to light it so... Alex wins every way you look at it!

Err, no. Having recently done (and won) that fight I can truthfully say that Alex breaks up the fight (at least if you win). He also appears earlier to heal you, foreseeing the fight.

I would say Alex is my favourite antagonist though. He's left to die at Mt. Aleph by the wise one yet doesn't seem angry.
Also, does anyone else think he's not exactly evil? Sure he was pulling the strings behind lighting the lighthouses so he could get the power, but it's also likely he knew about the world dieing.
And, although he does attempt to use his power to attack Vale, all he does is call a storm whereas he could have made an earthquake or fire storm... plus, he never tries anything similar, even though he would still have a lot of power.
And
in Dark Dawn he helps the son of Isaac stop the eclipse, which is unexplained but you'd think he would want to kill the Isaac and his family.
I wonder why he's doing everything.
why would he kill his family Isaac still has the power of mars in him and if he killed Isaac where would the power go! Also the power could have been devided between him and his son (but not for sure) so why would Alex risk it. Also is Alex still after power?
Also i don't know much about GS DD but that is just my thoughts
