Title: Forum Error/Glitch Reports
Post by: Rolina on 03, November, 2009, 11:52:14 PM
After the move, a few things have been noticed as being out of place.  If you find such a thing, please post a link to the culprit(s) here and tell us what type of problem you found.

Here's the types:
.

It would be greatly appreciated if you reported anything else that doesn't seem right here, as well.  Remember to describe the issue type too, that way we know what we're dealing with.

Edit by Role: Fixed.

Number one and two seem the same but said differently.

I have noticed topics which are not locked that should be locked. I can tell, or else that Reply button would have disappeared for me. So if this post fits for this topic I shall continue.

Okay, hopefully after giving you these two pictures you will understand:

Hm... I sort of have an error report here. This is an odd glitch that has happened in every message that I have typed except for the last one... Anyway, when I type a lot of text and it goes past the bottom edge of the text box (where the text is when you type), the screen jumps to where I type a new letter, and then it goes back to the top.

This wouldn't be so annoying if it weren't for the fact that it looks like the text is just flashing in front of my eyes... It just goes so fast... I can't stop... Pretty... Pretty... Ooh, who am I? Where am I? Why do I have a craving for chicken?

Have a nice day.

I'll look into it Salanewt.

Okay, thanks Atrius.

Hehe, a tutorial for locking topics, hehe... Might not be much use to most of us though, but it is nice to know.

Have a nice day.

Edit: This isn't much, but the last two posts in "Salanewt's Rants" were switched.

Something I've noticed - sometimes the 'new posts' picture works, other times it doesn't.  Dunno if this is just a hiccup, or what...

Edit: Figured it out.  The new posts pic works fine... but not the 'new posts in the subforum' pic.  We fixed this in Invisionfree by assigning the 'new posts' pic going sideways if there was a post in the subforum, but not the main forum (iirc).

Also, though this is minor, the avatar limit seems to be pretty small in comparison to the old boards.  You used to be fine with 150x150 or even 200x200... my current avi should be 140x149, but it looks reduced in size to the point that you can barely make out the detail...  There's plenty of horizontal room for it without column stretching, too.

The tutorial was for the proof, and so y'all can NOT lie, mwahahaha. Or even ask a question of ANY sort afterwards, my goal was to be as CLEAR as possible. And ah yes, Charon would have probably done it if I didn't say anything.

Hm... Oh yes, Role? For your error report, I would like to guess that it is related to the problem with my avatar... In a way at least. Remember the size of my avatar at the last two forums? That is what this one is supposed to be, lol.

So, it seems that some avatars are also expanded here.

Have a nice day.

Hm... Oh yes, could you please revoke our breathing rights too (lol)? Perhaps we could also have... Actually, lets let Charley decide, hehehe.

I think I need to make an update to my avatar soon anyway (not much of one, but there still will be one).

Oh yes, did you fix the posts in "Salanewt's Rants" topic?

Have a nice day.

Since I have no idea how to change this myself, and I wouldn't want to meddle with Atrius's uploading work, I'll just post an error here:

For some reason, my post is first when it should be Suzumibachi's. Dunno why, maybe it got cut off when you split the thread? (http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?topic=367.0)

For some reason the boards code had avatars set to be the maximum size regardless of their actual size, then it would shrink them to their regular size with Javascript if they were actually smaller.

I rewrote the code so that it has them at their normal size by default, then shrinks them with Javascript if they're too large.  Basically reversed what it was before, since this way makes more sense to me anyway, and will be more friendly to people with Javascript problems as long as no one is using a gigantic avatar.

Reordering posts requires editing the database directly.  It takes a bit of work, so I'll get around to fixing them when I am able.

Sweet, thanks Atrius!

Wait, this is strange... You know how you avatar is shown in the top left corner neat the navigation controls? I think the image up there actually grew in size. If you want an image, then I can upload one.

I upped the max to 200x200, but it seems the code for showing that one is somewhere else.

Role's should be it's actual size now, but Salanewt...  Well, your Javascript isn't working, and I'm still trying to find where the code for that one is.

When testing skins, the Mars skin needs this applied to it as well.  If someone chooses to use it, they currently get some weird non-djinn pic when there's a post a subforum.  Since I lack the ability to go in and do it myself, I leave this to y'all, Charon and Atrius.

I was editing the subs.php file experimenting with the [size] tag issue in firefox.  Turns out it has to do with how Firefox handles certain fonts, it's not capable of shrinking them.

I don't get that error, not on Firefox, IE, or Chrome, so it's gotta be something on your end.

Yeah, it could be on Drick's end, except that I have it now too. The problem for me just came in the past three days or so? Anyway, Jamie just made a new post in the Psynergy idea's topic, but I could not see it with "Show unread posts since last visit".

Perhaps it is something to do with the website, since I have not changed anything, and it was fine before.

Have a nice day.

For some strange stupid reason, Anemos Alchemist PMed me this instead of posting it here like he was supposed to:

QuoteHey, just wanted to let someone know of a glitch that I found.  That is, if nobody else has found it...  xD

When I post anything, (be it a PM, a new thread, or a reply to an existing thread), I encounter a strange glitch with scrolling.  When I reach a length that requires the text entry to be scrolled, it starts acting up.  It will start jumping around when I try to use the scroll wheel on my mouse and not go the right way sometimes.  What I mean is that it goes up when I want down and vice versa.  Also, it will jump to a random place in the text then flash down to what I'm typing whenever I hit a key, then jump to another random place.  It won't stop doing this, at all, no matter what I've tried.  I thought that it was a mouse/keyboard problem, so I unplugged them and put them back in.  Didn't fix it.  Then, I thought that it might be that my computer was overheating.  I let it cool down, then tried again.  Didn't fix it.

So, if you would be so kind, I think that fixing this would help.  xD

Thanks in advance!

- Alchemist

PS: Also, when I hit "Enter," (or "Return," if that's what you have), it doesn't move the cursor down until I hit another button.  Don't know if this is related or not...

My answer?  Run a virus scan, change browsers, etc... Because no matter what compy I've accessed this from (no matter what browser either, for that matter, though you may be using the epic fail that is the AOL browser for all I know), I have never gotten that result.  Also, don't forget that you have to reboot your compy every now and then to clear the cache.  This is a problem on your end, not on the forum's end.  Regular Maintenance is the key to cleaning that up.
Title: Re: Forum Error/Glitch Reports
Post by: Salanewt on 29, November, 2009, 03:25:32 PM
Oh, actually, I am still having the same problem that Alchemist has. I just try to avoid getting too far past the bottom, or I type elsewhere and then paste it in. Virus Scanning does nothing to fix it. It could be the browser... I am using Internet Explorer. I will try some others, but I think that it is just the computer settings.

Have a nice day.
Title: Re: Forum Error/Glitch Reports
Post by: Rolina on 29, November, 2009, 03:31:47 PM
It could be your cache, or you've got too many things open.  Please, people, if you get errors like this, do list all the variables - Such as browser, OS, and yes, how long your compy has been on.  If it's been on too long, I'll just tell you to reboot and check back with me.  If you're using epic fail IE, I'll tell you get Firefox or Chrome.  Hell, I have VISTA and it doesn't have most the problems y'all are reporting.

There's also the whole thing were scrolling depends on where your mouse is.  If you're in a scrollable window (like, if there's a huge pic) it'll go to the one your mouse is in.  If you're scrolling down and you hit a scroll-needing pic, it'll scroll the pic instead.  Do learn how to properly use a compy if this is the issue, because again, the problem exists between keyboard and chair.  It's not a glitch, it's how computers work.

Well, I have listed most of these things around, so I will make a small list:

Internet Explorer. I have tried using Firefox before, but then some things do not display correctly at Yoshi's Lighthouse.

Windows XP, which came with my Computer when I got it in June. I hate Vista, and have not been able to upgrade to Windows 7.

Only a few things open (about 4-7 at the most, excluding when I work with the Nintendo DS).

I do not have the scrolling thing on when I type. It is less scrolling, as it is just a scrollbar jumping from bottom to top when I type. In fact, it fixes automatically if I keep typing sometimes, but then it will be glitchy again after a few more lines. This does not happen anywhere else except for here. In fact, the glitch rarely happens unless I press the "Enter" button as often as I do, which is why it often happens.

I also have Norton Antivirus, which came with my new computer. I used to use AVG, but it turns out that AVG does not recognize as many viruses as Norton does.

What else is there to mention? I do not have a history of getting viruses, because I am careful of where I go. I also clear out my cookies at least every few days, I avoid advertisements, I even check for viruses at least once a week, but only because I am in bed sleeping when Norton checks for me.

Also, the glitch is starting to happen under this line/on this line (under at the time that I was typing it, on this line for when I am done typing).

Have a nice day.

So this occurs when you type?
Well, I've quoted your ENTIRE post.  And it's not happening to me.  I think it's on your end...

Also, DON'T use Norton OR McAfee.  Any popular virus scanner is easy to get around by virus makers.  Try something like BitDefender, or some other non-mainstream antivirus software.
Title: Re: Forum Error/Glitch Reports
Post by: Salanewt on 29, November, 2009, 04:28:16 PM
I can't, because I am paying for Norton already (besides, it is actually very good, considering that it is updated almost all the time, so it really does work).

I am not disagreeing with you that it is on my end. Still not sure why it only happens here though.

Have a nice day.
Title: Re: Forum Error/Glitch Reports
Post by: Rolina on 29, November, 2009, 04:51:13 PM
Remember, though, that the guys who make viruses will make things in a way to get around the more popular anti-virus software.  Example: when I switched from McAfee to Bit Defender, it caught like 30 things on my compy that McAfee failed to find.
Title: Re: Forum Error/Glitch Reports
Post by: Salanewt on 29, November, 2009, 05:06:55 PM
That would make sense. However, if you don't go where viruses thrive, then you should be good to go with a popular antivirus (there is still a chance of getting some, but...). My Antivirus seems to be fine though, since it seems to reckohnize viruses when they come, but I know what you are saying (unfortunately, I have only had Norton for a few months, and do not want to cancel the payment).

Have a nice day.

I don't see why everyone is getting worked up.  There's no reason to PM a moderator about forum glitches anyway, they don't have access to fix stuff like that, but it's hardly worth getting upset over.  If you can't post in the correct topic for whatever reason (I'll look into it) and don't know who exactly to tell, it's not like it's wrong to send a message to any staff member since they should know who to pass it on to that can do something about it.

For one, that was mean.  I don't appreciate being belittled for something that you obviously don't know the reason for.  I simply forgot to mention why I sent a PM as opposed to posting.  Which brings me to my second point: it wouldn't let me post here.  It said that I can't post here.  I had to use the Quick Reply box for it to even register.  THAT is not my fault.  I still don't know what's up with the scrolling thing, and you may be right.  I may have to turn my computer off more often than I have been.  But that still doesn't mean that you automatically get the right to insult people who apparently lack your god-like skills with a machine.

Hopefully I don't get banned for this, but if I do, then you can be sure I won't be coming back.

- Alchemist
Wow, you must be one of those people who can find insults in anything!  I called the reason stupid, not you.  If you want, however, I can switch from insulting the reason to insulting you.  I'd be perfectly willing to do that.  Of course, I'd PREFER to show a little bit of courtesy, but if you REALLY insist, I guess I could...

Joking?  No, I was serious.  I hate people who find insults in every little thing, even if there weren't any insults directed towards anyone.  I wasn't insulting him, but now I think I may start.  I'd prefer not to, but honestly, things like that are one of my pet peeves.

Title: Re: Forum Error/Glitch Reports
Post by: Rolina on 01, December, 2009, 12:07:03 AM
I'll try, but nobody should expect me to be too kind to them when they try an nickpick my post to find something insulting.  I am not, and never shall be, politically correct, and would sooner kill someone that was asking me to be such instead of going along with their requests.  Not only was I not joking around this time (in which case, I understand if I accidentally offense someone, will explain and will apologize), but I wasn't... I didn't insult anyone purposefully nor in a joking manner.  But they took offense anyways, for some strange stupid reason.

And no, that's not insulting them either.  I may see whatever reason they decided on doing something as stupid, but that does NOT mean that I view the person as stupid.  EVERYONE has moments of epic fail reasoning.  There are no exceptions to this.  Even I am prone.  But just because that moment of reasoning was a moment of stupid, that does not mean that the person was.  If I think the person is stupid, trust me, I will say so to their face.  But this is NOT one of those times.

So long as we're clear on this, let's get back on topic.

Yeah it seems the MySQL server has been a bit less than reliable recently.  There's nothing I can really do about it besides contacting our host, and complaining about it.  Hopefully they already know somethings going on, and will fix it soon enough.

Okay, well, it seems as though the forum doesn't like the new avatar rotator I found... It loads it, then suddenly poof, it's gone.

Although the image tag works just fine in the forums, in the avatar settings it's all spastic.  Think this can be fixed, or will I have to go back to manually rotating my avi?

Got this when I was merging Momiji's post today:

Database Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '= - 0

Biiig problem, Atrius.

You know the part of the registration that requires you to type the letters in the image?

The image is not appearing.

Because of this I'm going to see if I can turn it off until it gets fixed...

URL avatars aren't working properly.  This is particularly annoying for those of us with random avis.  What winds up happening is that it switches the upload type to one I uploaded myself, when that isn't the case.  Can y'all look into it?

Hello there! I believe I may have found a problem. In Golden Sun: TLA Reloaded there is supposed to be a Mercury Djinn :MercurySet: southwest of Naribwe Village, in a bit of forest. I've been fighting there for hours and Chill will not appear. Could this be some kind of glitch?

When installing this romhack, I followed the directions to the letter and made sure to use a clean, brand new ROM file.
Has anyone ever had this happen? How can I fix it? I tried looking for :MercurySet: Chill both before recruiting Piers and again after recruiting :Piers:

I leveled from 18 - 21 just in that area and still never encountered Chill  any help would be appreciated.

 Nevermind, I'm dumb. Caledor kindly pointed out that Chill and Mud have switched encounters in his epic, Golden Sun Reloaded mod.
