Title: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 18, June, 2010, 02:26:50 PM
Want to help make some User Created Badges? You can do this by posting them here!

Specifications:
-Badges must be 50x50 pixels
-Badges must have a 1 pixel black border.

Other than that, feel free to do whatever you want with your badges! If your badges are accepted, you will receive:
- 1 Reputation Point per badge
- A special edition GSHC badge for the first 5 badges accepted
- An Emblem message for the first 15 badges accepted

When we reach 50 User-Created badges, unless they go into the standard or limited edition sets, they will start to replace the oldest. For example, if we have 53 badges, the 3 oldest will be replaced with the new ones, unless they are a part of a set.

The shine effect used in standard badges is found here. (http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?topic=747.msg14821#msg14821)

Can we also make themes that you can use? like coose our favourite anime or something and create badges for that so you have a theme to use when you need new ideas?

Well this will be easy.  I'll have three up some time tomorrow-ish.  Feel free to take them and use a better art program to touch them up.

Though I am curious... what's the point to badges again?

Hey, will something like this work for badge submissions? I attached an image of Alex to this post, since I want to be careful with Imageshack now (in fact, an advertisement from them seemed to try to attack my computer, which was blocked). It has probably been sorted out by now, but I just want to wait a little longer.

Have a nice day.

Edit: Just made one slight modification, and reuploaded.

So what have we learned today?  Yes, that's right - this is why we use photobucket.

I have never had problems with Imageshack before though. I used to use tinypic, but they have an odd habit of converting your files into other formats, often with me into .jpegs.

Also, I might try my luck with another random Golden Sun character first.

Have a nice day.

User-Created badges go under their own section, so they can be anything.

@Role: Badges are images that pop up on your profile that can be purchased with Reputation. Whether or not you want to use it is up to you, but it's a fun way to customize your profile. Reputation will be able to buy Djinn, Items and Summons eventually, but we want to get the RPG elements set up first.

Cool, thanks! I do have two more (at least bases) for badges, Saturos and Menardi.

I was going to try Kraden, but he barely has any art on the Internet (the best that I could find was from the credits scene).

Have a nice day.

I'll accept the Saturos badge. The Menardi badge needs to be cleaned up before I can accept it. (the art should also be raised a bit)

Okay, these aren't done yet, but I don't actually know how to finish them.  Charon, I loved how you did the original character's badges, with the dark blue background and sheen, so if you could go in and apply that to them, I'd be QUITE grateful. ^-^

(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/IlaProtoBadge.png) (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/AidenProtoBadge.png) (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/KariProtoBadge.png)

These characters should have NO DISCOUNT applied unless the person applying for them has submitted a hack which uses them.  I think all the Character-based Custom badges should be like that.

If theres gonna be a time and place were an exception should be made then I believe tis should be let slid because I submitted it and have been using the avatar for months now thus should be passed also, A friend of mine made it.

On a second note, the image summited is 50v50 pixels whereas my avatar us 80x80 so technically its a different image.

COME ON CHARON,      dont let me down.... Noooooooooooooooooo I love my Avater

Then undo your submission.  Charon said that you cannot use a badge for an avatar or signature, she will remove it.  And since yours would count as a larger version of a badge... well, it'd have to go.  Perhaps next time you'd think these things though before going and doing that?

When Charon stated badeges couldn't be used as Avaters, she was mainly pointing out that she didn't want her work stolen. User created badges may be a different matter. So no i,ll leave it up until I get word from her. I dont know what you are making a big deal over as I dont see how it effects you?

@Charon... Im Making a request that if you own a badge, then you are able to use it as an avatar? That pretty much sounds fair.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges

NO, it doesn't.  Badges work as a different system than avatars, and using a badge as an avatar, ANY badge, effectively undermines that system.  The rules cannot be broken just for one person.  Either follow them, or suffer the consequences, Maxi.  If you want to use those, you have to get a new avatar.  If you want your avatar, you must rescind your submission.  That's all there is to it.  No exceptions are to be made, not even for someone who made an avatar.

Rules are RULES, not guidelines.

Oh, and there's also the part where you don't understand the concept behind that rule.

Them rules were made before the user generated avatars were even brought up so whats your point?

Im not asking for rules to be changed in the FIFA world cup or that we should be allowed to swear or post Roms on the forum... Im asking for a little change in how this community "system" works so far. (Something minor)

Im not sure if its your time of the month but sheez you are getting riled up about something that doesn't concern you in any way. You are not Charon, you are not an Admin, so drop it.

Then I'll attack from a different standpoint:  They don't follow the request format at all.  I do recall a 1px black border being required.  Yours do not have that.

I may not be an admin, but I'm a stickler for the rules - that earned me moderatorship int he past.  I'm STILL the first responder for rule breaking anyways...  I'm usually the one who alerts the admin and Jamie that something happened.

They look exactly the same, the dimensions hardly change the picture if they're still the same one.

Besides, the forum already has all of the character portraits in an avatar gallery.  Character art works better as a badge.

That all comes down to taste tho, I was hoping to trade my badges thus far for and to start and collect the avatars (was planning to get the rest of the games avatars up)....

Seems that wont be the case now tho..

They're the SAME IMAGE RESIZED.

You can't just save it in a different size and call it a different image.

Many of those already have a 1 pixel dark blue perimeter, so you could just change the colour to black and be done with it, and then I wouldn't be complaining at you!

You are right, I think non-custom should be used as newbie/freebie badges. If they are used as badges at all... (and be allowed to use as avatar/sig) Anyway, even without knowledge of this website, it is so easy to track the same images off google....
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Rolina on 20, June, 2010, 11:45:08 PM
Here's how I see it happening:

A badge for each game.  Awarded for ownership of the game (and ONLY for ownership - if you've never gotten it, you can't have it).  Dark Dawn's badge cannot be attained until after the release of the game, as a result.
The animated elemental ones are clan badges - when you join a clan, you get its badge.  When you leave it, the badge is stripped from your possession.

The rest work as normal - like element badges get a discount from like element clan members (Jupiter gets Karis for only 1 Rep, for example), otherwise it's gonna be 3 rep (Jupes must always pay 3 rep for Matthew).

User created have a DIFFERENT way of doing things, but only slightly.  For custom characters, if you've used that character in a hack you've made, then they're only 1.  You MUST have submitted the hack and be listed in the credits as a contributor.  Otherwise they're 3.  Location based ones work the same - if you used a location in your finished hack, you can get a discount.  For hack based badges, it's a bit different.  The creators earned the badge by making the game, others must shell out 3 rep.

At least, that's how I see it.

Quote from: jamieMaxi: You submitted your Avatar as a Badge, with improper format too. Your argument is invalid.
Told you.  But did you listen?  Nooooo.  Nobody listens to the mage...

Interesting ideas Role.

Anyway, I have Karst. I would work on Agatio, but I have to get ready to leave for my exam soon. She has a little bit of a decoration in her background, similar to which Agatio might have on his badge.

I will, but I'm unable to do that at the moment. I'll update as we go. The discount also only applies to the Standard Badges - as soon as they are put up there the Discount can go into effect (unless otherwise noted)

I also like your game idea, Role. I'll get them up asap.

Maxipower - Badges and Avatars are seperate entities. Badges cannot be used as avatars and avatars cannot be used as badges. Even if it were the original artist using a badge as an avatar, they would have been able to use the badge without buying it, and buying the badge is the whole point of the system.

These are the badges that I am accepting:
(http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr139/ahpuoh/Jennafelix.png) (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/IlaProtoBadge.png) (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/AidenProtoBadge.png) (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/KariProtoBadge.png)

My only problem with the Karst badge is that you can barely see her.

I'm accepting Eoleo, but Briggs looks rather pixelated. Try shrinking him down a bit more. He should also have a paler background. :p

Also, if anyone's using GIMP, here's the .xcf file I use to make the Blue Background Shiny badges:

Great, thanks for the badge layer! Some time this week (probably tomorrow), I am going to update my previous badges with that layer.

Also, thanks for your input Charon. I changed Karst's background to a lighter purple, but Briggs will require a bit more work (making his arrival come later than Karst's).

I did it myself actually. It's not that hard... Just do a white streak across the badge on a separate layer and make it transparent.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: RTGreece21 on 22, June, 2010, 08:50:49 PM
yeah, i used photoshop. what i did was take one of the old badges and spun it so that the shine was tright side to side. i made a layer overtop, selected the rectangles where there should be shine, and filled them in with white. personally, i set mine to 40% transparency. then, i rotated them until the shine matched the sine on the original non-rotated one (which means i just repasted). after that was done, i made the borger, and put the shine and border in a group in front of everything. i deleted the other pictures, and then made a group to start making badges in.

We should have all Character based badges, user-created or not, have this kinda theme to them.  I think it'd work well. ^-^

Photobucket is the easiest thing to use.  Imageshack has problems with popups and viruses, tinypic changes the format, other places have their own problems...

Photobucket is easily the safest place.

I often use tinypic, the convert .bmp to .jpg's and that can make the image look crappy. So I upload .png's... they don't convert those. Also, they now have an anti-bot system. :( ... No registration required though.. so..

Please use an external hosting site if you want to post more than 4 badges. Posts don't count here so it isn't a big deal, but I won't accept your badges if it occurs again. Considering also that after 50 custom badges are made the oldest will be replaced, it's only fair to post a few.

The following badges have been accepted:

Special limited edition badge:

Only those who Participate in the RoleQuest1: Elemental Cirno scavenger hunt will be permitted to have this badge.  It is a badge for PARTICIPATION, so in my opinion, it shouldn't need to be bought.  If it MUST be bought, it should only cost 1 coin, but ONLY BE PURCHASABLE by those who participated.  Badge will not be available until the contest ends (read:  When winter begins!)

As this is an EVENT BADGE, it cannot be sold back.  After attaining this badge, it is permanent.  Furthermore, after the contest ends, there is no way to get this badge.

At the same time, it should cost you ZERO coins, though.  It's an event badge, so you earn it via participation.  As you cannot undo participating, you kinda can't sell it!  Technicalities for the win!

Not adding those ones, we already have those. Anyways, the ones I didn't add before will be added today to the Shop utility. Since it's not available to everyone yet though, I'll also add it to the manual shop.

The badge will officially open when I get the Tales of Symphonia set up. At this time there will not be trading items though; get me a list of basic trading items up and I'll put them up.

What do you mean by "too sharpened" exactly?  Just not enough anti-aliasing, or what?  Because I honestly think the first emerald badge they made looks better than the second one.  Background was a big factor there.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Salanewt on 24, February, 2011, 03:44:59 PM
In Dialga's case, I think Charon is specifically talking about his horns. If you can see the pixels, it should be slightly blurred.

Otherwise, nice work so far Shinigami. Please keep at it, your badges are really good.

It's mainly two things that I didn't like:
-The picture was scaled poorly; while Gira looks relatively smooth but crisp, Dialga looks really pixelated in comparison
-The horns, like Salanewt stated, are very uneven looking in comparison to the background

In the case with the first Rayquaza, he looks really icky on the background with all those pixels sticking out. I liked the second better although imho its not his best.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Rolina on 24, February, 2011, 03:58:12 PM
If you're using paint.net, it's got a feature that allows for various types of scaling to do it in a better way - the default is optimal, I believe.  Look into it - it does a much better job than would, say, MSPaint.  Dunno about how to do it in photoshop, but I'm sure they have a way to do smart scaling in it.

If nothing else, send me the cropped, un-resized pic, and I'll scale it to show you what I mean.

Ah, I see.  Yeah, there's a reason I don't like Gimp, Shini.  Consider looking into Paint.NET.

Gimp actually has 4 different scaling options (although you should never use "none" under most circumstances).

The stock for Dialga you're using must be really low quality, because it still looks ugly... ;-; Are you using it from Bulbapedia? Usually they have really large images of the stock available for download.

@Role: I run Ubuntu, not windows... I'll try running it through WINE... but personally I'm happy with the GIMP and don't see your problem.

OK so... (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/FlandreBadge.png)
Problem is, without using anything but original artwork it's very hard to make this badge look right.
So, unless that badge will be accepted(which I doubt), I am going to use another piece of artwork.

My PC has been fried for the past several weeks, else I would have made some badges by now. Either way, it looks like Shinigami is doing enough work to make up for the lack of work from everyone else.

Something seems a bit odd with this badge. I can only really see her eyes, since the rest of her colours seem to blend in.

On the badge requests topic there was a post, by Charon, that explained how the system was going to work.
There was a part there that said that members could purchase badges that would only get displayed on their profile(for 4 coins) and would not be available to other members for purchase.

A. No, you're completely right. You can't purchase them from the Shop though, and if you want to get rid of them or set them as your favourite, you need to contact me.
B. Yes.

Also, this is a crapload of new badges. Mind putting them all in a zip folder so I don't have to save each one individually onto my hard drive? Please make sure there aren't any duplicate characters. Post the zip and I'll increase your coins.

Hoopa's are also accepted.

I have some advice, though it may seem a bit rough coming from me.
The background of Aerith's badge contrasts too much, in my opinion, you might want to make it a slightly different shade. The first Zach badge (1, not 2) looks a bit blurry, I can barely tell his mouth from the rest of his face. I would also smooth Angael's face a bit, as I can see the pixels on his face.
Otherwise, I think they look really good; I like Zack 2 the most. Overall, I only really see a few minutes of repair for the rest of them. Please, keep up the good work!

1: Why bmp? That filetype is uncompressed and generally is huge in filesize. You could use something better like png and still have the same quality.
2: Your dimensions are 60x63. I think they should be 50x50.
3: The borders are not even on all sides.
4: I'm sure there is going to be atleast one complaint about that badge by someone... It looks good otherwise.

Edit: On 4, I was referring to the blurriness/choppiness.. You can notice it quite well on the perimeter of the hat and the hair that covers her right eye.

Try to use gimp to produce these badges - its a free program to use and is very versatile. Also, the badges must be 50x50 pixels in width, have even borders, and the general quality of the badge is not good.

I would recommend taking a stock image, cropping to a certain section (preferably 75-300 pixels or so, square), then scaling to 50x50, making edits as necessary. Try not to make it too pixelated, or blurry. It looks like you're having trouble so I'll post a mini tutorial.

For example, say this is your stock image:
You could make it proper size by cropping. You can crop by making a selection with the selection tool, then selecting "Image -> Crop Selection". You can make it square by checking the property inspector to ensure the length and width are the same.

And then scaling. Scaling can be done by selecting "Image -> Scale Image"

Then, by opening Base.xcf, we can add a shine and border really easily! Just paste your cropped image as a new layer between "New Layer" and "New Layer #1".

Also, the shine effect can be found on this post. (http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?topic=747.msg14821#msg14821)

You could just extend the border on the bottom.

Also, read my lips: No more gifs. Well, unless the badge is animated anyhow. Please use PNG. And you can just attach them to a post and not go through the hassle of an external upload service.

Okay, but please note that this thread is only for user-created badges. So unless you draw the artwork in a user-created badge, you can't put it up here. You can, however, put your artwork in this section. (http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?board=13.0)

The only badge I'll accept is the second and fourth one, here's why:

1 has a white edge around the character that sticks out too much, use the eraser tool to rid of it.

3 is too blury.

4 I'll put a border around. I'll need the character's name in the upload, though, so please reupload it with a border and a proper name.

5 is too pixelated.

3 was too blurry. I figured that. 5 was the only good shot of angeal I could find. I didn't even want it I just wanted the main characters. I tried to fix 1.

1. Aerith
2. Sephiroth
3. Zack

Aerith looks like she's sick...  You may need a different source entirely for her pic.

there aren't alot of options for her as far as pics are concerned.

and how does this one look? I haven't added the base.xcf file yet but I just want to know what y'all think.

The third one looks the best.  That last one you did?  it kinda looks like liek she's going zombie or something.  The angle also kinda makes her look like a monkey...

Also, that last badge is xbawks hueg.  Let's... not use that, okay?  Proper size should be proper, after all.

Post by: dwkjohn on 04, July, 2011, 11:07:24 AM
I'll try the third one. thanx. and the other I just haven't resized yet. I just made it and wondered what y'all thought. so is it ok other than the size? I got the idea from KOP but his was alittle pixelly and to dark so I made my own.

With the glow like that on the Aerith image I think I'd skip the background color, and leave it white.  Just add the shine effect, and it'll be good.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: dwkjohn on 04, July, 2011, 05:15:51 PM
it'll not be as good as you might think. when its resized, it looks weird. however, when I try to correct it, it looks weird to but in a different way. the first is the original, the second is edited.

edit: hmmm. now that I look at them next to each other. the first doesn't look that bad and the second is wqy to much correcrion. I'll fix that, hang on.

edit 2: here we go!

What scaling method are you using? Do not use "None", ever, unless you're scaling sprites. You should probably be using Linear or Scalar.

Honestly, if you just take the original stock and put it on base.xcf (from this (http://forum.goldensunhacking.net/index.php?topic=747.msg27607#msg27607) post), I would accept it.

uhhhh... scaling method? I didn't know there were different scaling methods. I just hit scale image and set it to 50x50. but I'll add the base later I have to go somewhere now.

If the program's good, it'll give you a choice.

Use Paint.NET - it has the option to automatically use the best sampling type for the image you're trying to change the size of.

A while ago...

I had this really good idea of making Touhou character badges...
Unfortunately I also had the really bad idea of making them in no particular order...
So now...

In a sensible order, with a compressed .zip file containing .xcf(changed my mind, you don't need the .xcf files, do you?) and .png files...
(http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Yuyuko.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Yuuka.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Yuugi.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Yukari.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Youmu.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Yamame.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/X_Keine.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Wriggle.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Utsuho.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Unzan.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Tewi.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Suwako.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Shou.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Shizuha.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Shikieiki.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Satori.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Sanae.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Sakuya.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Rumia.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Rin.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Remilia.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Reisen.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Reimu.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Ran.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Patchouli.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Parsee.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Nue.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Nitori.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Nazrin.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Mystia.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Momiji.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Mokou.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Minoriko.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Minamitsu.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Merlin.png) (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Meiling.png)

Also, I know that there are some characters I have posted badges for before. If it is not too much trouble could you please replace those badges with these badges (of course without increasing my coin count for them)?

I will now start on fanart and other artists art touhou badges...

.zip file iswas attached to post...

Also, if it's OK with Charon, I'd like to make animated/.gif versions of the elemental badges after I'm finished with this...

Autumn Girls look the same.  You need to somehow include their distinguishing features - without those hats, they look the same.

It might have just been me uploading the same image twice from photobucket... I also noticed that there where only ~30 images on display there, whereas the folder I uploaded them from contains 58 badges (they should all still be in the .zip file though). Kind of hard to keep track when you're pasting so many image codes...

Assuming by saying Autumn Girls you mean (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Shizuha.png) and (http://i1205.photobucket.com/albums/bb429/Tondemonai/Touhou_Badges/Minoriko.png)

Everyone's portraits from Immaterial and Missing Power, Scarlet Weather Rhapsody, Unthinkable Natural Law and Great Fairy Wars coming up in one packed .zip file full of 80640 pixels of epic cuteness.

Here is the preview (hopefully without doubles or missing ones this time):

Aye, now I don't seen any duplicates this time.  You may have just double posted one or something, though.

@Charon:  If that's how you feel, do the same for Fire Emblem.

...Oh, and can we have a set of True Runes?
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 09, July, 2011, 09:32:04 AM
There's only like 10 Fire Emblem badges though, I think there's even more Pokemon badges than that. Most of the FE badges are LE badges anyhow, while there's like 25-30 badges in each of these sets, including the one I just had up... yeah.

Set of true runes? Hm... I was thinking for a while we could have a Suikoden themed LE set but there's just soooo much to work with... lol. I'll see for now, I'm going to work with organizing these badges.

If you make the set yourself that's pretty much a free 20 or so coins though.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges

Still, Suikoden Runes would be a freaking awesome set to have. :D
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 09, July, 2011, 09:35:33 AM
Yeah, lol.

I might go ahead with the Suikoden theme LE badges but I have no idea where to start in what characters to select (I haven't played all the games y'see and there's just a huge selection of characters to work with) so if you could compose a list that'd be just wonderful (and I'd give you some coins for the effort).
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Rolina on 09, July, 2011, 09:42:01 AM
Noooo!  Start with the runes!  The Ruuuuunes!

There's what, 756 characters?  In that case only recurring characters, those with True Runes, and other important ones (ex:  Thomas, the Tenkai of III) would be done for characters.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 09, July, 2011, 10:05:00 AM
Haha, since they're still important of course I'll still keep them in there!

Yeah I was thinking just the big mains, but the problem lies in what draws the line as an "important main". For example, for SIII, we could include Hugo, Fubar, Sgt. Joe, Lulu (god knows why), Lilly, Chris, Percival, Leo, Salome (aaauugh), Louis, Roland, Borus, Geddoe, Ace, Queen, Joker, Jaques, Aila, Nash, Caesar, Apple, Thomas, Cecile, Piccolo, Muto, Eike, Juan, Luc, Sasarai, Sarah, Albert, Yuber, and there's probably someone I'm missing because I'm tired. But if we just had just

Hugo, Chris, Geddoe, Thomas and Luc for SIII (not counting TR) it would be a pretty short set, especially counting that this game had the largest "important" cast. Most of the games would probably have about 5-10 characters if this where the case and the set would feel really really empty... xP

Even with SII you'd have the problem of deciding whether to include characters like Seed, Culgan, Viktor, Flik, ect. because they're very important characters... but how important?

I mean... yeah. Some of these could get away with covering two games (like Lilly and Apple) but zomg. D:

and before you say anything viktor and flik badges would be amazing
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Rolina on 09, July, 2011, 10:23:06 AM
That's still a lot of people, though.  I say start with just the ones I listed, then eventually expand to the others.  I mean, hell... you listed a large list for only a single game.  Instead, start simple, expand to greater.

And while you say that's a small group for just the ones I suggested, I counter with "We have 7 games to cover".  Some true runes have multiple owners as well (Soul Eater and True Flame, for example).

I still say starting with runes is a better idea.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 09, July, 2011, 10:35:33 AM
Of course we'll keep the runes in there, that's a given. I'll probably start with those sometime... I'm kind of loaded today (helping Sala with his hack, organizing the badges, stuff at home) so maybe I'll start tomorrow.

If you wanna help out too that'd be wonderful.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges

If you are gonna include characters, then go with the main characters of each game then move to the secondary characters and so one ... the series has like 700+ if they didn't reach 1000 already lol

Luc is a must since he appears in the first 3 games ....
And i can help with this since i have played the first two, the fourth, fifth and the spin off >_<
Just let me know if you need any help and what is your plan ^_^
Title: Re: User-Created Badges

Luc wields the True Wind Rune, so he's already included as a True Rune Wielder.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 09, July, 2011, 05:05:46 PM
So we're starting with TR chars. Then I'll do TR badges (the designs).

Sometimes the TR goes from one character to another though, like with Ted and McDohl, but I bet none of us would really care for a Jimba badge, even though technically he did once have True Water. So I still think a wanted character list would be good.

Also, what's your opinion on characters with alternative outfits, like Luc?

EDIT: I think I have a good idea. I can do two sets, one for True Rune characters and another for other important characters. The latter will be just 1 coin each, while the TR characters will be 2. When I make a new set I'll have all of them be worth 4 coins though.

I think their set names will be TR and SK. They'll technically be part of the same set but because of the way I put it together I'll need two sets to fit all the badges. It's a lot of work but I think it'll be worth it, especially considering I've been kinda lazy with the LE thing.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges

Speak for yourself.  Each person who had a true rune would be cool, even if one of them isn't even a star, IIRC.

As for characters that appear in different games, use the game portrait for the game they carry a true rune in.  For Luc, it'd be GSIII.  For Ted, GSIV.  You get the idea.

Also, characters who have runes related to True Runes, such as the Dawn and Dusk runes, the Sword and Shield runes, etc...
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 09, July, 2011, 08:49:31 PM
Alright, I'll get as many of them as I can, some of them don't have stock that I can work with.

Also, I know next to nothing about Suikoden or Suikoden IV so you all might want to list some important characters. My knowledge is pretty scant on Tierkreis too because I played it sporadically 2 years ago (this is for the second set). Since Thomas, Nash and Freyr are mains in the games I'll include them in Set I as well. No Tierkreis characters will be included in the second set.

Zack was fixed, Sephie should be there (might be in the wrong location) and I'll check Aerith.

EDIT: Aerith was fixed, Sephie IS there... for some reason looking for him by name doesn't work. Try ID code. ID code for that badge is C047.

Do you mean the ones I uploaded a few months ago because I haven't uploaded any of your new ones yet.

I'll reset your coins to 0 though and do that. Just don't expect them back right away because I'm doing the Limited Edition set and its going to be a doozy.

Due to the "Tip of the week" item in the shop having no icon...
Technically not a badge, but...

If you use it or not is of course entirely up to you... I just thought it would look less plain...

Alright, you're getting there, but the stock you used is very pixelly. I would recommend using a fairly large sized stock (400 pixels or more), then cropping to the selection you want, then doing it.

If you have the XCF file I could see if I could make it look a little better though.

you could try inkscape and then open the image in gimp to put the base on it. I love inkscape. I use a mixture of it, paint, gimp, and microsoft word 2010. weird I know. XP

I don't think we can pull off the beta badges.  The quality needed just isn't there.

Post by: dwkjohn on 12, July, 2011, 10:00:19 PM
what quality. they're portraits, that's how they look. I jist thought it would be cool to have them as we never see them.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 12, July, 2011, 10:27:51 PM
The only ones I don't like are the beta sprite ones. Cloud might look better if he was put onto the right a bit more, but I'll accept him as-is (this is only if you want to fix it and I'll replace it)

It should be noted that I will not accept portrait sprites because of their resemblance to one of the avatar sets, and badges are NOT allowed to be used as avatars... so that would just cause confusion.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: dwkjohn on 12, July, 2011, 11:25:56 PM
we could have the betas be avatar choices. so the others are accepted? sweet!
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Rolina on 13, July, 2011, 01:28:20 AM
What I'm saying is that pics are better when you use official art as a base instead of a sprite - unfortunately, we don't have that with beta images.  The pic quality is quite striking compared to all the other badges as a result.

We are in a need of non-Touhou badges to fill in the spaces between C068-C074 (9 badge spaces are reserved). Please help out!

In order: DQ IV Male Hero, Rocket, DQ IV Female Hero, DQ V Hero, DQ 3 Hero, Terry, DQ VIII hero, DQ VI Hero.
Pretty sure these need some more work though, so do tell what needs to be changed.

Why didn't I think of making Dragon Quest character badges...
I have a problem...
As you can see, as soon as the quantity of items in a set exceeds 100, I am unable to "visit" other pages from that set...

Also, I have 102 coins, yet none of the Touhou badges are on display...
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 16, July, 2011, 01:21:56 PM
You have to go to the base of a set, for example, "Pokemon Badges" to reach the Pokemon Badges, or "Tellius" to get the Tellius badges.

That's why I moved the SK badges.

It is a really frustrating glitch though and I'm gonna talk to Atrius about it.

@Hoops - "Terry, DQ VIII hero" are the only badges that don't look great, I'll accept them but if you find less pixelly stock I'll replace them.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: dwkjohn on 16, July, 2011, 01:29:30 PM

Here's a badge I made of...  ME!!!  Yay me.  I'll be popular, famous, I'm...  What do you mean you're getting it because Pepper's in it?  -.-  Sigh....  Some people just don't get it...  :P
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 24, November, 2011, 09:03:51 PM
I won't accept that badge as is. You need to get a clearer shot of your character, and put less emphasis on the background Kirin. I can barely see your character as is...

My second? attempt at making a badge. I choose Phoenix Wright. That one case where you see him when he was a college student.

How does it look? I chose gray for the background since when you use the other colors you can um... see a strange outline where the hair meets the background.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 25, November, 2011, 07:17:47 AM
2 things - the head isn't really the focus of the picture and the white line around him is distracting. Just offset the picture (or use a different one) and make sure to get rid of the ugly white dots around him and you'll be good.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Kioll on 25, November, 2011, 11:51:12 AM
Alright, here's a redo.  I found a better quality version of the same image, made the character more prominent and made the Kirin summon much smaller.  Pepper didn't change.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Charon on 25, November, 2011, 12:32:03 PM
Its still hard to see. Kioll should be the emphasis of the image, not the whole thing. He's also really hard to see his lineart and he blends with the background too.

Take a look at this accepted badge:

You can see Rayquaza very clearly. It's for Pokemon Emerald version, but it doesn't really matter that the background is not green, and it makes Rayquaza easy to see. In addition there's nothing else that distracts from Rayquaza, the main focus of the picture.

Now take a look at this badge:

This time the focus is just the Mercury Djinni in the bottom left corner. Even though the background complements the colour scheme, you're still able to see the Mercury Djinni clearly.

A last example:

This image actually has two focuses, but they don't distract from eachother. The text is easy to read and doesn't get in the way of the main picture. Try doing something like this with the little Mars djinni. So have Kioll's whole profile, with maybe even some of his chest, and having the Mars djinni covering the least important corner. Personally, I'd remove Kirin outright.

I hope this clears things up a bit. It's hard to make your first badge, but you'll get the hang of it.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: leaf on 25, November, 2011, 12:43:16 PM
I agree with removing kirin. Put the mars djinni in the upper left corner and maybe try to fade it out a little so it isn't so dominant. That way it would look like it's just hovering over his shoulder, rather than running forward yelling "HEY LOOK AT ME!"

I don't know about personal badges... but if we do have member specific badges, I think they should require the member's permission.   I also think they should cost more than a standard badge, like as much as the video on the profile thing.  After all, having general badges is one thing, but... badges for specific members is...

Suppose I attempt to omit the background?

I mean like this as an example:

EDIT: Adding Dahlia Hawthorne. (I have a feeling it may need to be slightly edited.)
EDIT 2: Added Franziska von Karma! (If it is slightly to the left, just note that I tried to completely omit the background.)
EDIT 3: Yay. Now we have Phoenix Wright the pianist.

They're good to me.

I'm not uploading them for a while though. Its not something to do with you, but its something I'd rather not talk about at this time.

In the meantime mind uploading a zip so its easier for me to gather the files? Thanks.

Those look far better than the current elemental symbol badges.  I agree that they should replace them. Plus, now we'd have fundamental ones, too. ^-^

I actually prefer the current ones, to be honest. That's not to say those are bad or anything, though.

The current ones are screen rips - these are from an official source.

Post by: Salanewt on 20, February, 2012, 05:34:04 PM
Er, but aren't the screenshots technically from an official source too? Either way, I wouldn't mind having access to both sets if I ever decide to buy another badge.
Title: Re: User-Created Badges
Post by: Rolina on 20, February, 2012, 06:24:35 PM
Screenshots are messy, while official pics are typically more crisp... it's an issue of quality here.  There's also the fact that the screenshots are taken from the battles background, which doesn't even have consistent colors, since they do a kind of color swirl thing.  These are more regular than the ones we have now.

But I like the current ones because the other ones look really kinda... uh... hand-drawn. DX

Alternatively, appease both camps by keeping the old ones and posting the new ones seperately. *Shrug*

How does that appease both?  One camp wants replacement, the other just wants them as new badges.  You'd only be appeasing one side.

Formally requesting the creation of a Lilligant badge (in the same style as the current Pokemon badges).

With Charon's permaban, we don't have an admin with the time to do site-oriented things.  Really nothing you can do about it, I doubt anyone here is qualified - we all have personal grudges, and would be likely to abuse them.

Is that so?  Well, still, and admin who abandoned their duties is one in need of replacement, so... well, if you know anyone who's willing to do all the forum-centric stuff, it might be a good idea to bring them into the GSHC.

Just found these, and thought they looked awesome.  Buuuut they're gifs, and I lack software to give them the proper borders...

Yeah yeah, I know, no Forum Admin to upload actual badges, but I figure it's only a matter of time before Root Admin Atrius finds someone to handle site maintenance so he can focus on other things.  The position of Luna is open, and what is Light without Shadow?

Anywho, they need like, borders, right?  And to be shrunk to 48x48 px, right?  So 48x48 with a 1px border... Those would make awesome badges. :3

Gnu Image Manipulation Program.
Seriously, it opens just about anything...

What is your problem with the GIMP anyway?

Shinigami is right, and they still look nice too.

(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/VenusDjinniGif.gif) (http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac208/charleysdrpepper/VenusDjinniGif.gif) (http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/ac208/charleysdrpepper/VenusDjinniGif50x50.gif)

I've only done this one for right now.

Edit:  I think they should be 50x50, but I took it down to 48x48 from what Role's post requested. Perhaps the border should go outside the image instead.... ; That, and some slight quality adjustments should be made. There are left over pixels from the ears. If you compare the layers individually, you will find that you have two options: Get rid of the pixels entirely by replacing them. Or draw on the layer that is on top, so those pixels can be maintained in its own frame. I myself, would probably choose the second choice. (latter) ; Better yet, I'm going to use GIMP in conjunction with Paint.NET.. Hmm.. FIXED! See the last image.

The jupiter djinni might give you some problems regarding it's proportions...

I had made some, but then 'we' reinstalled our operating systems (both Linux and Windows)...
I remember having difficulties getting the detail of the jupiter djinni to show up after antializing...

I made them 50x50, since that is the size of the other badges. I can change this, though.

....... Also.... Am I the only one in the world who has always found Djinni to be somewhat creepy..? ....

Edit: Also, here is an unrelated one that I made. It is a bit too low-quality to be added, though:

(http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a314/acidadept/JupiterDjinniGif.gif)(http://imageshack.us/a/img259/2315/jupiterc.gif) = Does something seem strange with the timing?

Post by: Rolina on 25, October, 2012, 05:30:28 PM
It's 48x48 with a 1px black border around it - which makes the size 50x50 in the end.  And yeah, the timing does seem off, too.  Still, they look quite nice. :3
