I don't know anything about NA citizenship laws so I can't comment there.

Forcing pure american citizenship is absurd. Dual citizenship exists so that immigrants are still citizens of their home countries, so that when they return they don't need things like visas/travel documents to go visit their families or something.

In all honesty outside of that huge @#$% up I'm not really as worried about Trump as I am about heightened political tensions with the people. I genuinely feel that some of the extreme young left is trying to silence the center here. I really hope that all the shenanigans involving punching neo nazis and labeling centrists as neo nazis keeps itself relegated to the insanity of the internet. The moment that this @#$% starts spilling into real life I'm going to seriously contemplate bailing this PoS country.
8  The Community / Debates / Re: Trump-bait / The Presidential Debate on: February 02, 2017, 02:53:03 PM
The main problem with the travel ban is its blanket implementation. The biggest offending part is people with dual citizenship with these countries are being assblasted with it, which is a huge problem. So basically if you came here, became a citizen and didn't renounce your citizenship to one of those countries (usually because of travel reasons) then you were fucked.

But I'm not surprised at all because immigrants are always treated like @#$% in this country.
9  The Community / Debates / Re: Trump-bait / The Presidential Debate on: February 01, 2017, 02:13:08 PM
Honestly I'm lukewarm about Trump for the most part but his travel ban is @#$%&*! retarded and was clearly half baked. I get what he's trying to do but coming from a family of immigrants its just another smear on immigrant families. Sure we aren't affected but immigration in this country is such a clusterfuck anyways that it just shows this country's hostile approach towards immigrants. So while I think most of the changes he commits to aren't necessarily "bad", the ones that are bad are... really stupid.

If anything I'm more concerned about the political climate with the people. The left is going batshit insane right now, moreso than even the right was with Obama. Being in the middle sucks here. And believe me, I'm aware that this is not anything new, but the extent of anger towards moderates is very intense. What genuinely worries me is that moderate-rights are starting to be grouped in with neo-nazis by extreme leftists - this division is more intense than it ever has been.

Sounds good... (We also shouldn't get too distracted that we forget to protect the "normal" people. ... (People who are viewed as "normal"... not that they are actually normal, since I'm not sure that actually exists. Depends on context.)

I think what you're meaning to say is that non-LGBTQ people should not be pressured by the LGBTQ community in the same way that LGBTQ shouldn't be pressured by non-LGBTQ. The community seems to be very ignorant to how pushy it really is. There's a clear tribe formed by these folks that extends beyond just being gay or transgender. The only thing I'm really watching out for here is any sort of ban on homosexual marriages or issues with obtaining HRT for people legally diagnosed with GID.

The political climate is basically like Venus right now - hot, oppressively dense, unable to breathe and kills all hope within minutes of landing. Wonderful.

I wonder why the verification emails keep failing, is it something to do with SMF? I don't understand why it would suddenly break though.

It really depends on what system you're using and I don't know a ton about it, especially on PCs. However, this is the very basic jist of how bootstrapping works:

When you boot a computer (or any device), electricity is powered to the device, and there is a point in memory that basically defines the first memory address to be read. The bootstrap code is designed so that it allows access to more and more memory and devices. Once memory has been allocated the code starts setting up the framework for the filesystem and operating system.

Any device that can be connected to the computer and is able to be booted through the computer's boot sequence could be used. When you boot a computer, there's an option to select your "boot order", or the order of devices being read. On older computers, it was well known to remove a floppy from your computer before booting since it would be hard coded to read from the A drive first before the C drive (namely because hard drives were not always a thing on these older computers!). In fact, some viruses propogated in this manner in the old days by basically running code that runs on boot from the floppy, and give it the illusion of not being a bootable device.

You could use a bootable thumb drive, removable hard drive, DVD, ect. but the volume would probably have to be labeled as bootable when you set up the partition. Again not an expert but this is what I know.

What this means is that as long as whatever software you're running is able to initialize themselves in this way, they can be used to boot a computer.
15  The Community / Open Discussion / Re: Cringeworthy "News" Article Dump on: December 06, 2016, 04:13:52 PM
CNN has really been pissing me off lately; at least Yahoo is a notorious dump on the internet.

What frustrates me a ton right now is after the Ghost Ship incident which killed 36 people, they not only fill their feed with a bunch of anti-Trump crap, but even bring it up in articles about the tragedy:

http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/05/opinions/nanny-state-prevent-oakland-fire-kayyem-opinion/index.html

We get it CNN, he's an idiot, whatever, 36 @#$%&*! people died and the best you can do is write like 2 articles a few days after the incident, and an opinion piece that includes more "baw baw Trump baw baw". Furthermore they go on to @#$%& about some regulation based politics. I agree that venue regulations is important and repealing them can be seriously dangerous (we have other examples in recent US history like the Station Nightclub fire to show that) but are you kidding me? Using a disaster to push a political agenda Yet Again? Show some @#$%&*! respect.

Man, @#$% Journalism. Kind of crazy to think how Internet has turned Journalism on its head for the most part. I see this sort of behaviour a lot though. Something terrible happens and people use it as a political platform. It happens all the time with suicides - "oh we should do this about gun control/drug control or else these people wouldn't have killed themselves". Yeah, like some @#$%&*! randy who never lost @#$% or never studied @#$% beyond 3 seconds for a news story knows.

June 25, 2017, 08:29:25 PM
Fox: Not as bad as a "HP to 1" hit... unless it kills you in one hit... but yeah, basically.....
June 25, 2017, 07:34:34 PM
Eon713: Toxic works similarly, first turn= 1/16 damage, 2nd 2/16, 3/16, etc. After a while you literally cannot survive the damage even at full health
June 25, 2017, 05:28:05 PM
Fox: With stacking support. ... So might be different numbers.
June 25, 2017, 04:58:36 PM
Fox: *Looks up* ... I suppose that could work. I had in mind that the damage would be greater than that max HP possible after like....  10? turns. So....random numbers:  5 10 20 40 80 160 320 640 1280 BOOM! (>2000)
June 25, 2017, 03:02:53 PM
Eon713: like toxic from pokemon?
June 25, 2017, 02:14:33 AM
Fox: @early stages = Small... or even no damage at all
June 25, 2017, 02:08:11 AM
Fox: Hm. Random thought of a mechanic like a poisonous snake bite. = Starts out with small damage... and if not treated, does big damage... In real life, waiting a long time makes the *poisonous* snake bite look really nasty, I believe. Or maybe that was some reality(?) tv I was watching once a long time ago....

Fox: Ooh... Salanewt's name is back! Hi Salanewt's name! And hello to you as well Salanewt! ; And yeah, SMF (and name) has been amazing.
June 24, 2017, 07:36:19 PM
Salanewt: Aw, RIP one of the best names this site has ever seen. It was time though!
June 24, 2017, 01:47:25 PM
Fox: 1pt text is great, yeah.... Meanwhile, I start feeling like I want to document GS2's MFT stuff. - Especially listing which file uses which compression format... to kind of get a sense of how gsmagic _could_ work.... Er....
June 23, 2017, 02:25:42 PM
Seto Kaiba: you know I miss how SMF is almost dead now because having 1pt text to hide my true feels was perhaps the best part of web 2.0
June 23, 2017, 04:19:13 AM
Fox: Alright. Sounds good.  I agree it does seem a bit silly.  Sounds more of an April Fools type of thing. (Maybe having an ability for people to change their names limitless times specifically on April Fools is an idea.)
June 23, 2017, 04:09:25 AM
Kain: Sala asked me about the name, I thought it was silly but agreed he could have it only for a week.  Tomorrow his name goes back to Salanewt.
June 23, 2017, 03:29:10 AM
Fox: And yay! Atrius is back! Thanks for the reply. Somehow I didn't notice the recuriveness before.
June 23, 2017, 03:25:29 AM
Fox: @ridiculous name for a week =  Hm? So, how many characters would you say should be the maximum to have a name "permanently"... or better yet... How many characters can a name have on registration?
June 23, 2017, 01:00:50 AM
Atrius: @Javi3, Lo siento, ya no tengo tiempo.
June 22, 2017, 08:57:37 PM
Fox: @conundrum = Think about 8/16/32 bit aligned address, and what that means... Etc.
June 22, 2017, 08:55:23 PM
Fox: @Space manager thought for gsmagic = What a conundrum... Whelp... I'll just do whatever.... Probably would waste more time thinking about preventing bugs than coding anyway. :P
June 21, 2017, 09:30:34 AM
Fox: Because he quit a long time ago and has other priorities?
