1  Golden Sun Hacking Community / Feedback / Coins on: June 07, 2017, 03:41:17 AM
Some things I've noticed, unless I'm being dumb and I just don't see it.

Being given coins doesn't give you a notification Edit: Never mind, found it in the profile settings

You don't get any indication that the hourly cooldown has passed
2  General Hacking / Project list / The Golden Sun fangame to end all fangames (hopefully) on: June 06, 2017, 04:40:07 AM
So I've been thinking of the Golden Sun series for quite a while, and I think it's high time we had some new material.
Camelot looks like they've given up on the offer to make a new one for enough request, and I don't think they'd be up to it anymore.
Nintendo also hasn't even mentioned the games in six years besides virtual consoles.

So with the development of Open Golden Sun, I think we should take matters into our own hands, and make a game that makes the six year wait worth it.

I propose:

Golden Sun: The Convert Dusk

Setting-

Golden Sun: The Convert Dusk (or GSCD or TCD) is an episodic adventure taking place hundreds of years after the end of Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. The world is in a new golden age, but the dangers of alchemy begin to resurface, and the heroes learn why alchemy was sealed in the first place as they journey to return the world to a balanced state.

Concepts-

The fundaments from Dark Dawn return, but not they way you'd think. Instead of being true "elements" they are two sides of a whole, and can be wielded by anyone.
Luna"Luna", the fundament of shadow, represents: cold, solitude, calm, healing through recuperation, and damage through deterioration
Sol"Sol", the fundament of light, represents: heat, company, excitement, healing through invigoration, and damage through overwhelming
Neither has an alignment towards morality, only approaches to the world.
In addition there are no luna or sol spells, nor are there any luna or sol adepts. Instead, elemental psynergy spells, djinn, and summons may be aligned towards one fundament, giving radically different effects than usual for the element.

Due to the events in Dark Dawn, a new game mechanic will be introduced, the eclipse event.

What is an eclipse event?
An eclipse event is a mechanic that benefits the player in battle through careful planning, although you may just get lucky.

When does an eclipse happen?
An eclipse event can occur at random, but is very rare, only happening about ten times through the entire game.
Alternatively, there is a meter that shows up during battle. This meter looks something like this:
Unknown Unknown Unknown Neutral Unknown Unknown Unknown
When you cast any fundament-aligned ability, the meter fills up.

For example:
Isaac (not a party member) casts vertigo (venus-luna)
Unknown Unknown Unknown Neutral Luna Unknown Unknown
Garet (not a party member) unleashes blind!  Mars Djinni (mars-sol)
Unknown Unknown Sol Neutral Luna Unknown Unknown
And so on

When the meter increases, so do your chances of activating an eclipse event! In fact, when the meter is completely full your next turn is guaranteed to be an eclipse event. But be careful, filling up one side of the meter much more than the other can lead to consequences.

What does an eclipse do?
Glad you asked! It's not like I wasn't going to answer it whether you like it or not.
During an eclipse event, two of your party members will be able to combine attacks for one turn. This can range from super-buffing someone for one powerful attack, to combining a spell with a summon. Hopefully, this will greatly increase the strategy in battle and make for some amazing memories.

Story, party members, and more mechanics soon.
3  The Community / RP Section / Tabletop RPG on: June 04, 2017, 09:33:12 PM
Since there's a distinct lack of RP in these forums and I have no current projects, I would like to make a tabletop RPG ruleset in the style of Golden Sun. Hopefully, this will open up RP to people who previously had little interest and/or introduce the world of Weyard to people who have had no interaction with Golden Sun.
If it's alright, I will be using the current RP character system (credit to Rolina) and the Golden Sun Reloaded hack (credit to Caledor) as inspiration for mechanics.
Please reply if you have any interest or ideas regarding the RPG
4  The Community / Introductions / Hey guys! I'm new here, thought I'd introduce myself on: June 04, 2017, 01:03:39 PM
I haven't been a fan of the Golden Sun games for very long, but that's only due to lack of knowledge. I'm relatively coding inclined (but then, who here isn't?) and I can't wait for Open Golden Sun so I can make my very own fangame. I hope I can be of help, or at least provide some humor. And thanks for having me!

P.S. If anyone knows any quirks of this forum, can you please let me know? I once was on a forum that didn't let you search when you were logged in.

Seto Kaiba: you know I miss how SMF is almost dead now because having 1pt text to hide my true feels was perhaps the best part of web 2.0

Fox: Alright. Sounds good.  I agree it does seem a bit silly.  Sounds more of an April Fools type of thing. (Maybe having an ability for people to change their names limitless times specifically on April Fools is an idea.)

Kain: Sala asked me about the name, I thought it was silly but agreed he could have it only for a week.  Tomorrow his name goes back to Salanewt.

Fox: And yay! Atrius is back! Thanks for the reply. Somehow I didn't notice the recuriveness before.
Fox: @ridiculous name for a week =  Hm? So, how many characters would you say should be the maximum to have a name "permanently"... or better yet... How many characters can a name have on registration?

Atrius: @Javi3, Lo siento, ya no tengo tiempo.
June 22, 2017, 08:57:37 PM
Fox: @conundrum = Think about 8/16/32 bit aligned address, and what that means... Etc.
June 22, 2017, 08:55:23 PM
Fox: @Space manager thought for gsmagic = What a conundrum... Whelp... I'll just do whatever.... Probably would waste more time thinking about preventing bugs than coding anyway. :P

Fox: Because he quit a long time ago and has other priorities?
June 21, 2017, 08:35:54 AM
javi3: Atrius, por que no sigues con el editor de golden sun?
June 20, 2017, 10:52:48 AM
Fox: It feels like the safest bet is to do Atrius's repointering system, and have something that organizes the tables done a bit separate... er... Well, it's something to think about.
June 20, 2017, 08:53:41 AM
Fox: HOWEVER... I can see other problems that might cause..... (Even with just the pointer in the MFT)  Meh. It's like you actually need a program to apply patches to do it appropriately.
June 20, 2017, 08:46:38 AM
Fox: ... So... What am I thinking? You ask? That the patches the point data after MFT, should have had pointers in the MFT themselves.... In that case, I can see a possibility of everything working smoothly even if space is needed to the very end of the ROM.
June 20, 2017, 08:37:22 AM
Fox: It's basically that everthink from the point of  editing, to the closest free space to the last entry's address would get repointed forward/backwards depending on space needed... and if space is mapped after patches are added, then that could mean the patches are also repointed. (:o)
June 20, 2017, 08:29:03 AM
Fox: Well, I mean if I map the space out the same way Atrius did it.
June 20, 2017, 08:26:41 AM
Fox: I have a hunch... when I add Map Palette editing the way I'm thinking about... it will cause all patches that repoint to after the MFT to break.... Especially if Atrius's editor wasn't used beforehand. Etc.
June 20, 2017, 07:27:17 AM
Fox: Hmmm... Let's see... regardless of method, I think I still do want to take some of Atrius's Space Manager code... Hmm.....
June 20, 2017, 07:07:27 AM
Fox: say*
June 20, 2017, 07:07:19 AM
Fox: I'd go so far as to see.. even if you are trying to be accurate, there could still be inaccuracies... However, that one was just an example where it was clearly intentional.
