Hello everyone! The reason why I am making a separate thread for politics in Canada 5is because politics and government are different in almost every country, as well as laws. This is the Red and White Canadian version. If you know about generalized politics, or know a bit about Canadian politics, then you may post in here.

For those of you who do not know (and what I learned in Civics last year), our main political parties can be placed on a scale, although the main three are democratic. However, we also have two other parties.

The main three:

Conservative --- Liberal (most balanced apparently) --- NDP

We also have two other main parties:

Bloc du Quebecois and Green Party.

Out of all of these, my most favourite is Green, and my least favourite is Bloc du Quebecois. My least favourite is trying desperately to make Quebec its own country... Most people there (I find) already believe that they are a nation, but I do not care for this idea as much. Green Party is focused on the enviornment, which is always nice.

What is your opinion?

Have a nice day.

Edit: I changed the name of the topic so politics in any country can be discussed. Careful though, since politics can be touchy for some people.

Meh. In my country there like 5 main parties (Socialist Party, Democratic Socialist Party, Comunism Party, another one that I don't recall the name and the Left Block). And then are more 5 that weren't able to enter parlament. One of these is the Green Party.
Although they have diferent names the main 5 all have more or less the same ideals but don't reconize it due to being stubborn.
Personally, I don't like of them (except maybe Left Block and Green Party, although sadly they will NEVER get to be in the Governement) because they all do the same thing, like politicians in general: they promise a lot of things but when they get to the government they somehow "forget" what they promised...A bird told me that it happened the same in the USA with Obama (Role).
I don't really like poilitics though, but you gotta know what they are up to or else they just do as they please...  :fury:
The way politics work seems to be really diferent between Europe and North America...I wonder why?

Here is the funny thing. It is even different between Canada and the US though. If I am not mistaken, the President can pass laws when certain conditions are met, but the Governer General up here is responsible for passing laws. Basically, if everyone below them wants a law ot be passed, it is the Governer General's choice whether to pass the law or not (I think). The reason why we vote for the Prime Minister is because if they win by a majority, then they can pass any law that they want without the need of the Governor General.

Also, you live in Portugal, right? For us, the NDP party is Socialist. The other two main groups are kind of obvious, and Green Party is probably the same (almost) as what you have in Portugal. there are many other groups as well, including the Marijuana Party of Canada, the one that is trying to legalize pot (lol, if they were to have a better platform than just legalizing one drug, then I would vote for them). Problem with them is that they will probably not be a major party for a long time.

If you do not believe me, then... http://www.marijuanaparty.ca/index.en.php3

Don't worry, it is a legitimate political party, not just advertising illegal stuff. This is actually kind of amusing to see though.

Have a nice day.

Lol, Marijuana Party. xD
That actually made me laugh! :p
Well, I guess having pot for medical propuses isn't wrong...But having that as the only objective is...stupid. I wouldn't vote for them as well.

Yeah, this group is also talking about hemp for other uses than drug use. I went to their forums, and most of it is true. Hemp can and was used for rope, clothing, many things. Also, it would be better if everyone were to get high on this stuff than on alcohol, but... Meh. I would rather vote for a party that has more to offer than legal Marijuana and Revolution, lol.

Oh yeah, lol. We also have a Communist Party, but it isn't as popular as the 3 main groups (well, more like 5 main groups).

http://www.communist-party.ca/

Also, I am even less likely to vote for this one than the Bloc du Quebecois.

Have a nice day.

Edit: Here is a page with almost every political partry of Canada. http://www.freebase.com/view/base/cdnpolitics/views/national_political_parties

Edit 2: It turns out that I was switching the Bloc du Quebecois with the Parti Quebecois.

Meh, I don't like communism ideals...
Hemp? "goes to google Hemp".
Ah, cannabis! Didn't know it's also called Hemp. Hmmm...Alcohol does too much damage to your body (if taken in excess doses) but cannabis doesn't seem to be agressive to our bodies.

Salanewt

Correct. Also, I am not fond of communism either, but it is still funny to have a political party supporting it.

Also, it turns out that the Green Party does also support legalization of Grass (another name for it), and the fact that this is not their only goal, but mainly a way to help the enviornment (since it is much more environment friendly, no chemicals needed to do anything with it) is another reason why I would vote Green. I would probably never smoke any of it, but it is useful for so many other things. Also, with Marijuana legal, police officers could focus on catching criminals with worse drugs.

Anyway, sorry for getting way off topic there, hahaha! To be honest, I do not like the three main parties very much (Liberal, Conservative (plus Progressive Conservative, they are both the same thing), or NDP (New Democratic Party)), and I hate the Quebec separatist groups + party. The other reason why I hate this group is because they have made many Quebecers think that they are a separate nation from Canada. They want to become their own country, but also use our laws, currency, policies, etc... Lol.

Have a nice day.

I actually approve of Marijuana's legalization in the states, but a Marijuana party is a bit... well, if that's their ONLY ideal, it is rather silly.

Green Party is usually a little too over the top with their ideals though. Almost PETA-like ;-;

I have rather socialist (which is often confused with Communism) beliefs. Mainly because the very strong Capitalist market isn't really fixing anything, and that it relies on selfishness and greed. I don't really mind so much with a regular business that has competition to keep it in check, but why we still have to look for people to insure us if we get sick (unlike our friends to the north) is beyond me. What's most ridiculous is that we have drug commercials, so it's not the doctor telling us to take drugs, it's the pharmaceuticals directly. I can't remember any commercials like that when I visited Canada or England... although that might have change.

Salanewt

I don't know about England, but Canada has changed for drug advertisements. However, I think ours are a bit different. They even tell you to go to your doctor before taking things, as well as some of the other rules, like avoid if pregnant, suicidal, etc. Also, at times, it seems that it is the drug companies telling you about them directly now. The bad thing about medical advertising is that they make you think that you have the disease, and this encourages people who do not have any problems at all to go to the hospital. Besides, the best way to avoid diseases is not to take vaccines or medications unless you are already sick. Better to build up a natural immunity than to be sterile.

Yeah, most of the time, our parties are a bit high for their objectives, but I figure that if Marijuana is legalized up here, other countries might follow in time, and the party that is the most likely to get this done is the Green Party. I think that the Marijuana Party of Canada is mostly obsolete now, but it does still have members and a leader. However, they also have forums at their website. Great place to go if you want to become a Pot Scholar, or a Reefer Teacher, lol.

Have a nice day.

Sorry salanewt but I'm pretty sure that the green party will get elected the day hell freezes over.

Anyway, I think all the partys are bad. I'm only a technical conservitive because they make it easier for the middle class. (/selfish)

NDP gets elected and we get stuck with higher taxes.

Salanewt

Yep. The Green Party getting elected is a lovely dream... One that I would like to come tru in the future.

Conservative, huh? I was once one, but I did not really know the difference between any of them except for name.

Yep. I do not want the NDP party or the Quebec party to get elected.

Have a nice day.

The Bloc Quebecois have had really only one underlying objective: to promote the separation of Quebec from the rest of Canada.
Ridiculous, no?
Don't bug me too much.  After all, the 'shadow is always Sirius.

Yeah, I know. What is even scarier is that they once succeeded. Well, I know that I will never vote for them.

Have a nice day.

Edit: Just so everyone knows... This topic has been renamed, so politics from any region or country can be included (although they were allowed before, but could be considered off topic).

Although I may not know the name of the party (although I do now!), every person living in the northern USA knows, and laughs, about this.

Because it's so damn funny, WHY would Quebec NEED to be it's own country?

Aile~♥

In fact, if Quebec were to split off, they would be more vulnerable to being captured by you guys in the US, who would then have more than enough territory and manpower to take over the remainder of Canada. So splitting off from Canada would really not be a strategic move at all.

Meanwhile, I laugh at the fact that I don't know which would be worse: being governed by that Harper idiot and the Conservatives, or being governed by the Bloc Quebecois. I think that even the Liberals would be better than the Conservatives at this point. Because honestly, the Conservatives aren't being very conservative, and if they were it would actually give our country a chance.

There's a new thing in place where the government can just declare whoever they want a "security threat" and imprison them for no reason. First the no-fly list, and then this garbage? Quick, someone hire an assassin! I certainly hope the Conservatives don't read this....

Because they are an arrogant cancer that clings onto Canada for nourishment. Of course, once it seperates, they'll be like "OMIGOSH I CAN'T SURVIVE CANADAR PLZ PUT ME BACK IN PLLZ PLZ PLZ".

I will encourage Obama to give Quebec the finger if they try to pull that. lol

Lol. so Quebec is a freaking parasite then, huh?

You and I both know Obama doesn't have the balls to do that.

Obama's just a big-eared son of a b**** who's a stupid n00b that needs other people to wipe his @#$ for him.  We'd be better off LIVING ON THE MOON.
