Hello. This is a topic where you can discuss anything about the Super Smash Bros. series, and also kind of like a local fan club.
Some details... My main character is Yoshi (you should have at least expected this from me), but I can also use Peach, Zelda, and sometimes Link, Pikachu, or Meta Knight (these are the other three for Subspace Emmisary). I throw in combos like crazy, so if you ever fight me, good luck. My friend code is in my signature, by the way.
Other things? I own the second two games, and have played the first one before. My best character in all of them has been Yoshi. Thanks to Brawl, I am much better with Yoshi now than I was in the last two games. I also managed to kill Metal Mario in one hit with a simple kick (in the first game).
Now, does anybody else like the Smash Bros. series (I know the answer is "yes", but that doesn't mean that you can't post)?
Have a nice day.
Might as well.
SSB64: Link, Fox
SSBM: Link, Mario
SSBB: Snake, ROB, Marth, Toon Link, Pit, choosing between Diddy, Ice Climbers and Pikachu to learn.
Brawl+: Link, ROB, Pikachu
And I feel like showing off my guide to anyone who might be interested. Quite outdated, though.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/wii/file/928518/57735
Oh cool. I was trying to use Diddy, but my friend (Ike, Sonic, and Lucario user) hated him because of his, well, side B. I also use Pikachu sometimes, but definitely not my main character. Other than that, it looks like you have a nice selection.
About deleting posts... The last two GSHC forums would only allow either Global Moderator + Admin or you as a Veteran to delete your posts. However, I do not think that Veteran has been brought over, so... Best to wait for now.
Have a nice day.
When I played Melee, I used: Kirby, Falco, Pichu, Fox, Roy.
In Brawl, I use: Pit, Toon Link, Lucario, Kirby, Falco, Fox, Snake, Marth, Ike. I also sometimes play Ganondork Ganondorf.
My most hated characters:
Diddy Kong: He automatically gets all the Dragoon Parts and Smash Balls, due to his insane ability to knock items out of others. He is also insanely fast. I usually just run away and wait for him to kill himself by forcing him into using his triple jump and having him rebound off of walls to his death.
Luigi: Same thing as Diddy with the Dragoon and Smash Balls. His Final Smash usually knocks my Pit out of the sky and to my death, since I like to fly circles around enemies.
R.O.B.: I'm not sure why, but he's just a pain. Oh yeah, it's his spammy DTilt. Even the CPUs will spam his DTilt. And his DAir, which CPUs seem to like to use in combination with a short hop. I find his aerials too slow for me to use effectively and too fast for me to block or dodge.
I normally just play without items, which takes care of both Luigi and Diddy right away. However, I really like Smash Orbs, especially with Yoshi.
That is a nice selection of characters. It would be nice if you could get Wi-fi working. Yeah, ROB is an odd character. Well, I find that the hardest character for me to fight is Lucario, but only because he can spam Aura Spheres (which break Yoshi's Egg Roll). Also, I have made some stages called "The Torture Huts". I have almost 40 of them I think. Basically, the main trap in the first few is somewhat like this:
|____|
_>_ ||
||||vvv||
|| = Block,
vvv = spikes,
_>_ = > Conveyor belt.
Of course, I only play here to annoy people, and also to have a little fun with my imagination. I will explain only if asked.
Have a nice day.
I'd like to play any of you, but I'm Aussie :P
And my ROB just seems to borrow the playstyles from the other characters I use. He fights in the air like my Marth, uses projectiles like my Toon Link, and pressures just like my Snake.
And being from Australia is a problem with wi-fi? Oh well.
Yeah, ROB is too slow for me, so I don't use him. If I were to try a slow character, I would most likely use Bowser (but only because of the similar DownB).
I forgot to mention that I also use Koopa sometimes (the nickname I use for Squirtle). I gave Koopa this nickname because of his shell's sound effect when it bounces off of something. Anyway, he has a quick SideB similar to Yoshi, except that it can not be controlled very well (but it is sturdier because it can be attacked like a regular Koopa Shell). I also like his UpB, but I hate his DownB (if I wanted to use one of the other Pokemon, then I would select them (although this does offer a good strategy if one is good with at least two of them)).
Have a nice day.
Well, I've just decided to go with IC as my new second, and now I just need to work on my juggling...
ROB's attack speed isn't that bad, though, so you can easily stay in the offence.
And, because I'mm in Australia, the lag will be amazing.
Using only one of the Pokemon Trainer's pokemon results in much decreased damage output and knockback cause the pokemon gets tired. So you have to switch pokemon sometimes, and give the other one time to recover.
On the first Smash Bros I used Pikachu a lot because I was a die hard pokemon fan. I outgrew that thankfully and I now use Mario and Captain Falcon more often.
On Melee I use Mario quite a bit. Pikachu I still used but not as much, Captain Falcon, Fox and Link I started to like using and then Roy and Marth showed up. Now not only am I a die hard Fire Emblem fan, but I've used them so much that I have no qualms in stating them as my favorites to use and my best ones to fight with.
On Brawl? I thankfully got every single character before my system started acting up and stopped reading the disk. Ike, Metaknight and Snake are my absolute favorites, next to Marth, Fox and surprisingly Sonic who I was partly against having in the game at first. At this point I started to use Kirby and Link more often and I actually liked using Pokemon Trainer because of his versatility. Hated Diddy Kong. Just didn't like using him at all.
Love the series. For me it was
SSB: Pikachu, Captain Falcon, and Fox
SSBM: Dr. Mario, Marth, Fox, Falco, Pikachu, Mewtwo (my main main), and Captain Falcon
SSBB: Pokemon Trainer (Main), Zelda (secondary), Yoshi (third main now. surprised Salanewt?), and eww...Lucas (4th main). When ever I get tired of those 4, I play around with Ike, R.O.B, Falco, Toon Link, Kirby, and Pikachu.
Wrong section, guys...
Video Games = tech discussion
You know why I'm bumping this topic.
To procrastinate my assignment and to rant.
Because, with IC, I can Fthrow chaingrab every single character, with about an 80% success rate.
Except Meta Knight.
META KNIGHT.
I play with Ganondorf. Screw tiers, he's awesome.
Brawl disc not being read? I had a similar problem a while back, so I sent it to a Nintendo Office in Toronto. I had it back after a few days. However, all they did was move my Wii's memory to a new Nintendo Wii (I know this because I was missing a channel, and my Wii was cleaner (the last one was grimy, not my fault though)).
Have a nice day.
Ahh Super Smash Bros. How I've missed thee. How many years has it been since I sold my Gamecube? My best three was Yoshi, Kirby and Pikachu.
Oh cool, Yoshi was your best? That is nice to know, since very few people that I have spoken to before actually like using Yoshi on a regular basis. In Melee, I would also use Zelda sometimes, as well as Link/Young Link and Peach (although Peach was rarer than in Brawl).
Lol, I ended up buying my Gamecube at least one year before the Wii came out. Eventually, I got it as well. A few months went by, and then I got Brawl on the day which it was released... Ultimate Yoshi Power!
Have a nice day.
Idea for Tetra in Brawl:
She'd be very floaty, but quite flinch-resistant. Despite this, her aerials would be among her best attacks, excluding her specials.
Attacks:
Jab combo: First hit: She does a horizontal backhand slash with her dagger. Would probably do about 2% damage.
Second hit1: She pulls the dagger back across the opponent diagonally, doing 3% damage.
Second hit2: She pulls the dagger back across the opponent horizontally, doing 2% damage. Caused by holding the direction opposite Tetra's facing and pressing A.
Third hit1: Tetra does an upperslash with her dagger, dealing light upwards knockback and about 5% damage.
Third hit2: Tetra wrist-spins her dagger in front of her, dealing 3 hits for 2% damage each. First hit has downwards knockback, second hit has horizontal knockback in the direction Tetra is facing, third hit has horizontal knockback to behind Tetra. All three hits have VERY low base knockback. Hold A to continue as an infinite combo. Pressing up on the control stick causes Tetra to finish with Third hit1.
More to come on this later.
Taunts:
Side Taunt: Tetra spins her blade around, then sheathes it.
Up Taunt: Tetra throws her dagger into the air, then catches it and sheathes it. This taunt has 3 hits for 0-1 damage and minor knockback as the dagger is spinning through the air.
More on this later.
Special Moves:
B: Nayru's Blizzard: An Ice elemental rapid spinning attack, doing 5 hits for a total of about 14% damage. Can freeze opponents and reflect projectiles.
sideB: Din's Inferno: Tetra dashes forward rapidly and strikes for 3 Fire elemental hits for a total of 9% damage (first hit does 2%, second 3%, third 4%). Can be charged by holding B to increase the distance of the dash and the number of hits. Fully charging it deals 10 hits (first 3 do 3% damage each, second 3 do 4% damage each, last 4 do 5% damage each, for a total of 31% damage).
downB: Transform: Transform into Toon Zelda. More on her later.
upB: Farore's Tempest: Tetra jumps, doing spinning slashes with a green trail like a tornado. This attack does 9 hits. Uncharged, it does 9% damage, but is extremely quick. Like, almost Dolphin Slash quick.
Fully charged, it does 27% damage, and creates a strong wind that sucks enemies in.
Final Smash: Cannonfodder: A Wind Waker style dialog box appears at the bottom of the screen saying "Fire the cannons!" as Tetra shouts "Oi!", which as most of us remember is one of the traditional sound effects for when somebody is talking to you in Wind Waker. Then, Tetra's ship appears in the background, but it's been renovated with cannons. If there is water or lava on the stage, then the ship will be sailing (yes that's right, a ship sailing in lava), otherwise the ship will have wings and will be flying. The ship then proceeds to pound to battlefield with cannonfire, basically the same as those annoying bombs on the Pirate Ship stage, but they fire a good deal faster.
Ah, so this is how you'd do Toon Zelda, eh? Well, so long as Tetra has her own moveset and not Shiek's, that'd be pretty good. I guess you could make Zelda and Toon Zelda have similar movesets, just don't be exact clones - kinda like how Link and Toon link were done.
I once spiked a CPU Marth at 21% damage using Wisp, which kinda sucked to be him. Granted, it was level 3, but spiking someone at 21% damage using a character whose only spike takes like 3 seconds to charge is pretty good, right?
As for Toon Zelda:
She'd be more flinch-resistant than her older self (due to being outdoors and about more often), but she'd be Toon Link/almost Jigglypuff floaty. Overall, her attacks are faster but less powerful.
Attacks:
Jab Combo: First hit: She slaps the opponent across the face, almost Peach-style. Probably deals only 1% damage.
Second hit: She brings her hand across again for a backhand slap. Probably deals 3% damage.
Third hit: Then she gives em an uppercut to the chin. Not quite so girly now, huh? Probably deals 6% damage, with light upwards knockback. The knockback on this move would be slightly stronger than on Tetra's third hit1 jab.
More on this later.
Throws:
Grab: Unlike her older self, she doesn't use magic when grabbing foes.
Pummel: However, she still blasts them with magic for her pummel.
Dthrow: Did I mention that high heels hurt? I don't have to explain further, do I? Does 11% damage.
Fthrow: She blasts the opponent away using a close-range magic burst (think Force Palm in the Pokemon anime), then follows up with 5 small spheres of magic energy, similar to Mewtwo's Fthrow from Melee, but with more magic and less darkness. Deals 4% on the first hit, and 2% on each energy sphere. Of course, the chances of them all hitting are not great.
Uthrow: She throws the opponent upwards, then releases a burst of energy. Changes elements randomly, between stun (a similar effect to ZSS's Paralyzer), Ice, and Electric.
Bthrow: She whips her opponent around to behind her, turns around, and punches them in the face. Deals 5%, but has insane hitlag, enough that at high percentages you could easily follow up with a smash attack.
Taunts: Down Taunt: Toon Zelda charges up flaming energy in her hands, similar to Lucario's Up Taunt, but not quite as, um, barbaric.
More on this later.
Special Moves:
B: Nayru's Love: Basically the same as Zelda's, but has shorter range, in exchange for being able to freeze targets.
sideB: Din's Fire: Faster, has shorter range but a large Toon-style blast.
upB: Farore's Wind: Shorter teleport length, slower start-up, but cancels momentum during charge-up, and has less endlag. Does more damage than Zelda's, has weaker knockback but sends enemies straight down. Creates a gust of wind on start-up that pulls enemies in, and a gust of wind on landing that blows enemies away.
downB: Transform: We all know what this does.
Final Smash: The Great Sea: She summons a massive storm, complete with tidal waves, rising water levels, tornadoes that blow enemies upwards, and thunderbolts. The tidal waves and thunderbolts inflict damage, as do some larger tornadoes. A single hit from a large tornado does 8% but has insane knockback. Tidal waves spike straight down and do 20% in one hit. Thunderbolts stun targets and do 22% damage.
Avatar Ness is awesome :D

Oh wow, that is a nice find! It makes me really want to make at least a few modifications to Brawl (maybe a complete Koopa skin for Squirtle, and a Dark Bowser skin for Bowser).
This gives me an idea for a personal project later... Of course, once we have found enough for Mari & Luigi.
I wonder if it will be possible to modify animations based on different costumes in the future? It would be neat, so I could remove the water from Squirtle, should the Koopa outfit be used, or Dark Bowser could have his dark flames, or even a Wigglytuff, to evolve Jiggly. Oh, i have so many ideas now! Well, I will think more about these later.
Have a nice day.
You can't modify effects based on skin, but you could use PSA to make a Dark Bowser or Koopa. Koopa would be kinda fail though.
Cool a fan club  Well my best characters in Brawl are Kirby(best!), Luigi, Lucario, capt. Falcon, Bowser, and Lucas. I'm good with everyone but Zelda, Ness, Pokemon trainer and olimar. by the way I just got my internet connected to my wii and found my brawl disk(somewhere in my bedroom of a mess) and I'm willing to fight anyone with the friend code so here's mine! 4082-8900-8400 the names Keeby!
I would be happy to fight, except that I have been without Wi-fi for a few months now... I am hoping to have it repaired during the Summer, so you can add me in advance if you want. My information should be in my signature.
Some advice if you want to fight me; avoid Ike like the plague, and stay away from any of the other heavyweight characters as well (like Ganondorf, Bowser, etc.). You could use Lucario, but I am sort of used to him because he was one of my friends' favourite characters to use (as is the reason why Ike is not a good idea either). Your best bets for us both to have a nice challenge would be anyone who is fast and/or smaller. Despite Sonic being the fastest, I would refrain from using him as well (same reason to avoid Lucario and Ike), and for a similar reason, you might want to stay away from Game & Watch.
Any other character would probably do quite well... Of course, if you are confident enough, you could probably beat me with any character (except for Ike).
Have a nice day.
I could beat you with Ike. He fights for his friends. *brick'd*
And Pit has spammy arrows of spammage.
You probably could, but I would not mind demonstrating what I can do with Yoshi... And I can not do that without Wi-fi (I am sure that I can have it some time in the Summer though).
Oh yeah, Pit is someone else I would avoid. Although if you are good with him it would be a fun match, but if you are iffy with his skills...
Have a nice day.

oops I forgot to add ike. Well let's see if you can do well against kirby or luigi my 2 best characters? I'll add you in then, plus in yoshi's lighthouse I PMed about conditions about the match so look at it when you get you're wi-fi back although how can you not have wi-fi don't you have the encryption key? If you want Jamie we can have a match?
Pit's SideB is awesome. Oh, and his DownB. And his B. Yeah, Pit's one of the few characters where all his special moves are useful.
I have a friend who completely outdoes me in close combat, so my only way of fighting him is by running away and spamming ranged attacks. Pit's SideB is helpful too, because it comes out fast enough for me to attack with it in close combat.
I actually don't have access to my Wii right now. Wish I was. Anyway, maybe if I get Wi-Fi up and running again when I get home we can brawl.
And BTW, Pit is awesome.
Well, the reason why I dislike Ike (in a way) is because I no longer find him challenging. However, fighting Kirby or Luigi would probably be a nice challenge for me.
Pit is pretty cool, but I just find some of his attacks too fast and spammy to use easily (I like balanced characters, like Yoshi (who, ironically, is the only character which has every move that I find beneficial)).
Have a nice day.

Well what do you expect from a game in the nes where he just used his arrows? he didn't use it as blades that was made so he can melee the opponent.
(revives)
Seriously, spamming is more of a pet peeve to serious gamers than anything. Most average people spam their favourite move. Besides, Pikachu's way worse.
Anywho, I've decided to stop spectating Brawl and actually play it with some friends. Well, I sucked(mainly because I lost track of my character and half of the time I was trying to figure out the control scheme -_-) but DAMN it was fun. At first I tried King Dedede but he was quite difficult... so then I picked Pit, and I felt so comfortavle using him, it was like putting on a glove. Unfortunately I can only play it on my friend's Wii (I don't have on ;-; ). I so want a wii now, just for brawl -__
You also don't have your own Wii? I play on a friend's Wii, but we take it to my house 'cause her annoying little brother always ruins the game by asking to play, picking Pikachu, and spamming moves. We HAD to LET him win because if he loses HE CRIES TO HIS MOMMY! (wtf?) I need my own Wii, just for playing Brawl and the other few real games for the Wii.
Yeah, I go to a girl's house, nothing happens though, her last boyfriend put her off guys altogether (he was a real jerk to everyone he knows)
Yeah, Brawl is probably good enough to make almost anybody want to buy a Wii.
Lol, one of my friends was like that, crying or quitting when they lost (but they usually used Game & Watch). His brother (also my friend) would often come to my house, so we could play it. T'is nice to always win. Hey, maybe if I can get Wi-fi back this summer, I can play a few matches with some of you?
Have a nice day.
If I get a Wii, but I don't know how to set it up for multiplayer XD It'd probably be my birthday or xmas when I get a Wii though.
Man, I wish I could get a wii. But I barely get enough money to make costumes... I need to get a summer job. I'm going to my friend's house on the weekend though and I'm going to play some brawl. You know, to perfect Pit. Certainly.
My friend only has internet on his PS3 though. For some reason the Wi-fi doesn't work. ;_;
I hope one day that we both have Wiis of our own. And yeah, Pit is awesome.
Well, when you both get Wiis, we should try to have a group match.
Pit is pretty good. He is a bit spammy, but I personally hate Lucario, Pikachu, and Game & Watch for their Spammish ways (though mostly for Aura Spheres or Bacon Bits, but Pikachu is spammy to begin with).
Have a nice day.
What about Yoshi, Link and Kirby?
Pikachu is the spammiest character ever, hands down. That's why he must die.
Kirby is spammy, but I can tolerate both him and Meta Knight.
Link? Maybe Toon Link a tiny bit, but normal Link can only be spammy if you use his spammy moves all the time.
Yoshi? Only when his moves are used too often. Otherwise, he is the ulimate (at least when I use him). I beat All Star's Insane mode with Yoshi.
Pikachu? Definitely. However, I don't use him often myself.
Have a nice day.
Pit can be pretty spammy too, but he's fun to spam with. It's annoying when people just spam in an ordinary strategy, but when you push Ganon off the stage by spinning the bow like a record, behind his back so he doesn't notice until it's too late? That, my friend, is comedic gold. And that is why Pit is awesome.
/lolwut
I've always seen fox as a character with a lot of spamming potential. That's probably because I've seen him used like that a lot.
Brawl hax news: LLOYD IRVING FOR BRAWL!
Also, spammy Cloud is spammy.
I dunno if people call their attacks in FF7 (I've never played it), but if they do, it'd be like:
RISING FANG! RISING FANG! RISING FANG! RISING FANG!
CLIMHAZZARD! RISING FANG! CLIMHAZZARD! FINISHING TOUCH! CLIMHAZZARD! FINISHING TOUCH! CLIMHAZZARD! FINISHING TOUCH! /spam
Fox and Pit are spammy, but I like both of them.
Also, META KNIGHT for SPAM TIER! *machtornadomachtornadomachtornado* *dimensionalcapedimensionalcapedimensionalcape*
And then you finish with... SHUTTLE LOOP! *enemy dies*
Played as Pit again. I got second place! Pretty good for a beginner! He's quite fun to use ^-^
Pit IS fun to use. It's kinda funny when some guy's trying to charge at you, and then you just stop them in their tracks with a single arrow, then go sideB spam on them. Not sure WHY it's funny, it just is.
It's especially funny when that "someone" is that giant turtle from hell.
Who, Bowser? He isn't bad, but it would be awesome if someone could give him a Dark Bowser skin, from Bowser's Inside Story.
Hey, leaf? Do you know if it is possible to add new skins yet, instead of just replacing existing ones? I would not mind duplicating the green skin to have other colours, like purple or orange. Black or White Yoshi would be awesome too.
Have a nice day.
Bowser is bad! He's so slow, even Ganondork is faster!
And his final smash sucks (Super Mushroomed Bowser is stronger than Giga Bowser).
I know, but I am sure that there are people who are good with him. I would be, but I just do not like using slow characters (he does also have a similar move to Yoshi, downB). While Super Mushroom Bowser may be stronger, Giga Bowser can not be sent flying off of the stage, no matter the HP%, right?
Have a nice day.
True, but this is his FINAL SMASH.
Wario's final smash is WAY better than Bowser's. Yes, that's right, WARIO.
The only slow character I like is Ike, because his attacks land with heavy thunks that make it so you can really feel it when you hit an enemy.
Yeah, that is why a friend of mine, who used to go by the username of Masterofdel, likes him.
Yeah, Wario's is better for a Final Smash.
Personally, I think Yoshi has one of the best Final Smashes though. You can control it, you can shoot fireballs, and you can damage just by touching an enemy (oh, and flying too). The only problem is that it almost has a lag, so you can not control it as easily as you can control regular walking.
By the way, do you have Wi-fi yet? I want to get it this summer, so I can play with others again. It would be neat to play against some of you too, so I can demonstrate just a small fraction of Yoshi's power (heck, I do not even need items to demonstrate anything, including Smash Orbs).
Have a nice day.
I've never (http://www.smashboards.com/images/char/metaknight.png) I didn't like. /pun
Sorry? I do not understand that pun.
Anyway, I already stated my best character (and a few other characters that I can use), but I do not recall mentioning that I used to use Diddy Kong (before Masterofdel would not let me...). I might try him again, since he does have some pretty neat attacks.
Have a nice day.
I'm getting better with Pit. I still need to get better though - I have only played twice after all.
OMGOMGOMG FUNNY STORY:
My opponents in this one match were Falco, Metaknight and Samus. I was Pit. A lot of the characters had a hard time keeping their balance and were jumping around a lot (Skyworld lol), but then SAMUS GOT AN EFFING SUPER SMASH BEAM AND MANAGED TO KILL ALL THREE OF US AT THE SAME TIME. Seriously, Falco was right in the middle of the beam, Metaknight got hit next, and I ALMOST MADE IT OUT OF THERE... but my recovery jumps ran out and I died too. SONOVABEEOTCH. Ha, we all had a good laugh at that though. Falco was knocked right out, so we kept fighting for about 30 seconds, and some STUPID EFFING KID HAS TO WALK RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME (irl), RESULTING IN THE PLUMMET TO MY DEATH. I was pissed at him for such an act of stupidity.
I sense a new addiction setting in. Don't worry though, Pit is a good character to learn how to use. In fact, up until a few months ago, I used to play almost every day. I reckon that if you get both a Wii and this game yourself, you will probably fall into similar playing habits that I once had.
Have a nice day.
In all real-time fighting games/RPGs, I always prefer using characters with similar physics as Pit. The only thing I wish is that he wasn't so floaty, but most of the other Brawl characters are really floaty too. Meh.
Jamie, if we're talking vbrawl, bowser is way better than ganon, if only because of one move: upB. Ganon is probably the worst character in the game >_>
Anyway, sala, if you really wanna play people here... I guess I could subject myself to some brawl for a little bit. I'm really not a fan of the game, though.
My FC is 2449-4328-2244.
edit: Oh, and no, you can't add new slots for textures, yet. Still stuck with replacing.
If you dislike floatiness (fake word alert :!:), then you should play Melee. I must warn you though, most of the characters look much worse, and Pit did not make it in (except as a 3D trophy, a hint that a 3D Pit was being made (but probably not realized to be a hint when it first came out)). Otherwise, the heavier characters are the least likely to seem floaty.
Personally though, I love the reduced gravity, since Yoshi was harder to control in Melee because of the gravity.
Really? I thought you were leaf. By the way, thanks for the friend code! Mine is in my signature.
Have a nice day.
If you're free, we can play right now.
And I said I'm not a fan of brawl. I like brawl+ and now especially Project M (which is still being worked on, and I'm lucky enough to be part of the dev team). I don't play too much brawl+ anymore, either, instead favoring melee and PM.
I would love to play right now. Unfortunately, I do not have wi-fi connection yet. I used to, but it stopped working, and the only connections now are all locked.
Have a nice day.
Oh. Alright. Lemme know when you get a connection again, and I guess I'll play you then.
Excellent, I will definitely let you know By the way, in regular Brawl, which characters do you like using again?
Have a nice day.
How could Sala not get my epic pun?
Anyway, I imagine that if I really wanted to I could play Brawl as well, but that could be a pain: I don't have the latest Wii System Menu, so if I tried to go to Brawl normally through the Disc Channel with Wi-Fi turned on, it would update my System Menu and then my hacks wouldn't work/my Wii could get brick'd.
So I suppose I'd have to use Code Manager to turn the File Replacement Code off, then load Brawl through Gecko OS.
In other news, I'm about to go check and see if I can get Wi-Fi working.
Edit: Scratch that thing about Wi-Fi. My parents decided they want to watch a movie, and I won't be here at all after that, for a very long time (probably about a month) so no Wi-Fi brawling for me!
Meh. I've played a bunch of chars, hated them all. You'll see when we play. I might just go MK if I end up forgetting how to play all the chars I used to use.
Jamie: You can just turn off automatic updates in the wii options menu, and it shouldn't bother you about it.
edit: Wait, if you have hacks, does that mean you play b+?
No, I don't play b+. I just use various PSA characters, a stage hack and a few music hacks.
Ah. I see. That reminds me... I never finished my darkrai hack.
Jenna's battle theme for Brawl!
I've been trying to make a .brstm of the Rainy Mount Crenel track from LoZ: Minish Cap, but the whole "loop length must be divisible by 14336 or whatever" thing is giving me trouble.
Does adding in extra samples of silence cause a section of the track to actually play a section with nothing there, or does it just skip the "silence"? /offtopic
And how far along are you with the Darkrai hack? Far enough along that you wouldn't want to switch the moveset over to Palkia?
I mean, Darkrai would be a sleep effect spammer more than anything else, while Palkia controls space, and thus would muck around with dimensional portals of various sorts, probably including projectiles from all directions.
I haven't made a brstm before, so I can't answer that. My guess is that it plays the silence, though.
I'm actually not that far along with darkrai yet at all. All I have is a mostly finished moveset plan and some of the core special mechanics coded. I haven't done anything with projectiles, yet, though (besides some ghetto coding that won't be used in the final product). I'll probably need to get some help for that from someone who's worked with articles before if I ever continue.

I'm  you labeled some of me and my brother's characters can't wait to :battle: Salanewt :fury:
It will be fun to go at arms... Or at Egg and Lightning. I am looking forward to it as well, but I need to get my wi-fi back first. Luckily, I only have two exams coming up, so I will try to get it on Thursday or Friday.
Have a nice day.
Once we get my friend's Wi-fi up, I'll see if we can go up for a battle.
But be warned - I suck.
Well that's to be expected, you're still new to the game, aren't you? You'll get better as you play, so don't worry about always eating virtual dirt when you play.
I have a Gamecube now (yay!), and I'm going to get Melee soon, so yay for not having to take my friend's Wii to my house to play Smash Bros., but Gamecube doesn't have Wi-Fi so...... Aww damn.
I WAS going to rent Melee from the library... if my FREAKING CARD WASN'T STOLEN *extreme anger*
Hahaha, what's funny is that I'm beating up my poor friend Josh these days in Brawl, and he's had the game since it came out. It seems I may have the skill for this...
There are still Ike Noobs about on Wi-Fi. That's saying something.
man, i havent played brawl in forever, so i probably suck at it now too ^^; if you wanna trade numbers Charon, i'll play with ya
Maybe you are fighting my friend Jamie? He uses Ike all the time (apparently, he is good with Ike though, so...).
Oh yeah, I have to try to get Wi-fi back! I will do research on it next week. Does anybody know how I can do it if I buy the appropriate equipment (no good connections to use nearby from my Wii)?
Have a nice day.
why? you have connection problems Sala? it helps to have your rounter no more than 8 metres away from the wii. my rounter is upstairs, directly above where i am downstairs.
Well, the computer router is in the same room as my Wii, but they are not connected (and with these computer chairs, it will be hard to always have the cord plugged in without rolling over it). I was thinking of setting it up to my computer somehow though, but I am not sure how.
Before, I was using other people's connections, which used to work quite well.
Have a nice day.
really? o.o i just wirelessly connect to mine, and it works just fine...
I'm pretty sure Sala meant that he doesn't have a wireless router.
this may sound stupid, but... o.0 there are routers still that cant be wireless?
I can explain what I have. The living room is connected to the Games Room by a hallway. From the small plug (that the phone can go into) in the living room, we have a long cord that hurts my feet sometimes when stepping on it. It runs down the hallway, occasionally trips people, and makes it into the Games Room. This is connected to our router, which gives both of our computers Interner.
In other words, it should be wired.
The sooner I can connect my Wii to it, the better... Right?
Have a nice day.
@Rosen: Yes, there are non-wireless routers out there. I'd know. I have one.
Fortunately, my dad's iMac can be set up to share its connection wirelessly. (So can my mom's, but there's a metal filing cabinet in the way that blocks the signal.)
@Sala: Can any of your computers be used to set up a wireless network? If so, you can connect your Wii to that.
Or you can go buy the special ethernet-USB cable for use with the Wii.
^^; heh.... but yeah, Sala, now that i remember it, my cousin conected a rounter to his computer and then went wireless with the computer. it should work.
I can probably connect my Wii to my own computer, which is what I would like to do. I suppose later today, I can ask someone I know how I might be able to do it.
I suppose I should get in a little bit more practice then, since I have not been playing very often lately.
Have a nice day.
Well, if anyone here wants to get beat by someone who doesn't ever play brawl, don't be afraid to ask =p
cocky bastard XD i might trade numbers with you, but you gotta be a little gentle at first~ XD
Haha. Alright. I'll just have to go ganon first or something, and if I'm losing, gradually work my way up the tiers =p
Like I mentioned earlier in the topic, my fc is 2449-4328-2244.
k, i added u. my code is 4296-2739-0136
Alright. If you wanna play right now, I'm free. I'll be online.
mmk. i'll play a little bit. im tired, but not tired enough to take a nap, so i'll be free for a little bit~ just make sure to add me or it wont be approved.
lol that was awesome ^^ im not used to playing with items, so i kept screwing up with those and i killed myself a few times, but that was pretty fun~ lets do that again sometime ^^~
I'm not used to using items, either. Why did you have them on lol
And lol@me forgetting that ganon's downB doesn't restore his second jump in this game.
But yeah, ggs
i had them on? really? o.0 hmmm... i'll have to watch that next time... lol@me because i cant double sprint or whatever pikachu does in the air anymore. i can only do the one. i used to be soooo much better at this game ^^; oh well. see ya later thou~
Yeah, I checked my settings after the first match they appeared, and they were all off and set to none, so it had to be yours.
I assumed it was a setting you commonly played on so I basically just shrugged and kept playing. Even though I don't use items much, one thing I do know is almost all of them make good projectiles =p
Super Scopes for God Tier in Brawl!
I mean, seriously, you can jump around and move while charging a super shot. I keep forgetting that you can, because the CPUs never do it.
Anyway, what sucks is that I presently don't have access to my Wii, so I can't play Brawl. Meh.
a group i played with that used to do tournaments were so against items that i just never used them, so i guess i forgot they existed... that or my brother screwed around with the settings on it. i find items get in the way and make things more difficult.
well, once you can get on brawl, you should add us and we can all play together, Jamie~
Sure, I'll brawl you, but expect to be brutally smashed in highly embarrassing fashion! <3 /sadist
...Yeah, that's my ToS2 Alice impression.
oooh~ X3 i cant wait~ my little Jamie is taking an aggressive intrest~ lol~ i can play either side of the bed, i like being a sadist-seme better though :3
Rosen, shut up.
I'm not taking that off of you. I've had it.
hey, you lowered my rep for saying a three letter word that i didnt say XP thats not very fair. you should have lowered it for harassment, even though that was pretty mild harrassment~
I haven't lowered your rep yet. I still have to wait an hour.
And you did say it, page 79 of the Ban the User Above topic, I just deleted it. But this doesn't even go in this topic.
So, we should stop this spamming now.
... wait, o.o... i thought you meant here? did i do something weird last night? if i did it might not have actually been me.... um, please explain >.< i have a baaaad feeling about this...
Stop it guys.
Anyhow...
Very excited for tomorrow, they're holding a Brawl party at my friend's house! yayayayayayayayay
Aw, you are very lucky Charon. I remember when I used to have some friends almost always come to my place, and almost all that we would do is play Brawl.
Anyway, please promise me that you will have fun tomorrow, okay?
Have a nice day.
Normally, all my friends do when they come to my house is play Brawl as well, because A CERTAIN ONE of my friends DOESN'T CARE ABOUT STORY AT ALL so playing ToS2 doesn't really work because he doesn't care about the story or anything.
OMG GUIZE I HAD LIKE THE SWEETEST KILL ON SATURDAY
So, I was on the Pictochat stage (methinks) and someone was running up to me. So I pushed the "A" button to attack, but for whatever reason, I turned around at that exact moment, so what ended up happening is I attacked backwards and ended up hitting the guy running up to me, causing him to go flying off XD
I seriously need to get the $200 to get the used Wii and the game. >_>
What, were you in the air? And you were Pit? Well, his Neutral Aerial hits to both sides of him, but doesn't have considerable knockback. My guess is that you tapped the direction opposite the direction you were facing and A at the same time, which is the input command for Pit's Backwards Aerial, which is one of his better kill moves. Sucks to be the guy behind you, I'd say.

I was actually on the ground, but yeah, I was Pit. lmfao it was still AWESOME
I always play as him because I figure if I get good with him moving to other characters won't be as hard.
and because he is awesome
Just pick metaknight and win everything using three moves imo.
i sometimes use Pit, but im usually Pikachu. unfortunately, there are a lot of fagachus out there that spam thunder. its horrible. its difficult to find a decent pikachu to fight because of that.
Well, you ARE fighting against Spamachu, after all ^-^
you should see me fight with pikachu. i hardly ever use thunder as an actual attack unless im trying to get the smash ball. i usually use it to give me a safer spot to land, like a little electric wall.
Augh, I HATE Spamachu. Especially when it's coupled with your best friend's 12 year old brother that edgeguards, all while choosing the Pirate Ship stage just to piss you off.
i hate the pirate ship stage... and i cant guard, u never remember to XD
And apparently Pit can't swim. That's why I always torture them with Skyworld right afterwards. Just my little revenge ~
i always just go to that final destination place or whatever. cant do as much cheap stuff there unless you use the smash balls. i hate using items
Ugh, the pirate ship stage, I HATE the pirate ship stage. It's primary function is to piss you off because your noob bro or sis is jumping around, as Spamachu, spamming thunder like no tomorrow XD
Heh, at least when that kid picks Ike, he always manages to Down-B to his death.
I'm a bit of a B spammer no matter who I'm playing as. I use my specials about as much as I use the entire rest of my available moveset.
And I like Pirate Ship. Basically, you can just sit around at the top of the stage and watch as the other guy gets owned by those cannon towers. Doesn't work so well against spamachu though. You try to hide up there and it's like "PIKAAAA PIKAAAA PIKAAAA" *BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM* *you die*
No, Pit can't really swim very well. He pretty much starts drowning instantly. But then again, he doesn't really need to swim. He can fly!
Wait, he manages to kill himself with Ike's down-B? lulz.
@Rosen: I never actually use the Shield either. Much easier just to sidestep dodge. (down+R at the same time)
i cant even side-step XD im agile, and i last long, but my defence is non-existant other than using thunder as a safety wall for landing ^^;
Huh, I always use the shield... Well, almost. I blend it in with my system. It is hard to explain without playing, but it is hard to play without Wi-fi.
Also, isn't it wonderful when you narrowly dodge someone's attack, and make it seem like it was on purpose (it normally is on purpose for me, but...)? As soon as they finish, you can counter their missed attack with an attack of your own. It is really nice when you get them as the lag arrives between finishing an attack and starting another one. A good example is having Yoshi roll out of the way of Ike's side-B, and then using side-A (or the optional side-C, for Gamecube controller users like myself) to send him back.
Have a nice day.
ive done some awesome stuff before. dude A sent me flying and dude B jumped in front of him to try and attack dude A, and i started charging my tackle. i launched at the wrong time, but luckly dude B jumpled and i hit dude A so hard he flew offscreen and died. Dude B (who was sonic) tried to do that really fast kick thats aimed downward and i accidently used that jolt thing that most pikachus used to try and get back on a ledge. thanks to that i dodged, turned around and side-C electricuted him XD
also, i always use the gamecube controller. so much better~
Hey, pirate ship isn't that bad. The only thing wrong with it is the bombs... and the catapult... and the whirlwind... and the water... and... k nvm pirate ship sucks.
And... question... when you guys say "spamachu," do you mean... thunder spamming? Cause if so, I can introduce you to a much more annoying (and more effective) form of spam.
Oh, and for the record, the defensive options are broken in this game. Use them.
of course they mean spamming.
I like to say: "Fagachus. They spam-at-chu."
buuuuuuut, there is Pit's spinny thing he does that goes on for like evar.
i cant use the defensive options. i can never think fast enough or remember to use them, plus the buttons for them are a little awkward, so i actually do better without sheilds.
I prefer either playing at stages with very minor events (like the Yoshi stages, or Final Destination), or at custom stages. In fact, I created a series of stages that I called the Torture Huts. This also makes use of spikes, conveyor belts, and blocks positioned to make it hard for people to get out.
QuoteOh, and for the record, the defensive options are broken in this game. Use them.
I always use them. I mean, a shield on command, dodging, and even just rolling to the side are so useful. I hate how Lucario's Aura Spheres can break my shield so easily though (with the rare sphere bouncing off of the shield before another hits me).
For spam, it is hard to do so with some characters. For example, Yoshi can not spam unless all you do is constantly repeat one or two moves, but Meta Knight has so many attacks, like his hurricane move (or was it just called tornado, I forget). I like to use all that I can though.
Have a nice day.
Wait, there are people who play Brawl without the Gamecube controller? Laaaame.
The Wii controller sucks @#$. Who even wants motion sensitive games anyway?
I would. But for certain games, I prefer the Gamecube controller. After all, most of the systems that I have ever used have the same basic shape (pretty much every Nintendo console and handheld that I own has a similar shape, whereas the Wii is a bit different).
Also, Charon, are you aware of the quick attacks? You should try them sometime (but A has to be used instead of the C toggle). For example, when on the ground, hold the movement toggle in any direction, and keep tapping A.
Have a nice day.
The Wii controller is good for some games, but NOT Brawl.

Yeah. I figured that out before C-sticking XD
one of my former aquaintances used the wiimote for brawl. its so stupid that it gives me another reason for wanting to throw him in a small pot hole and drive over him a few times.

Because unlike thunder spam, jolt spam wins games.
And pit is annoying >_>

Aw... why don't you use a custom control setup so that it's less awkward? Personally, I find the default to be very nice, but that's probably just because I'm used to it from melee.
Quote from: SalanewtI hate how Lucario's Aura Spheres can break my shield so easily though (with the rare sphere bouncing off of the shield before another hits me).
Do you like... not let go of shield or something? I know yoshi has the worst shield in the game, but still... you shouldn't be getting shield broken by lucario's aura spheres, especially the tiny ones.
QuoteFor spam, it is hard to do so with some characters. For example, Yoshi can not spam unless all you do is constantly repeat one or two moves,
That's my yoshi right there! Bair and dsmash ALLLLLLL DAAAAIIIIIII. lol I'm so bad with yoshi. I never really played with him much, so I never incorporated all the pivot grab shenanigans and stuff into my game.
oh lol. yeah, they meant thunder spamming, but there are so many ways to spam with pikachu
as for the sheild thing, its just the way the buttons are. i dont know if i can, but i guess i should try to see if i cant set the sheilds thing to the X-button. i also cant grab either because all the bottons on that part of the controller feel awkwardly placed to me. only the trigers on the xbox360 controllers seem fine with me. **shrugs** just how i am i guess.
and your right, leaf. o.0
unless your being gangbanged by 3 lucarios, your sheild should be doing better than that, Sala.

Quoteunless your being gangbanged by 3 lucarios, your sheild should be doing better than that, Sala.
Really? I did not know his shield was the worst. I thought it was Jigglypuff's, because she can kill herself if you are not careful with it. Yoshi's is the only special one though (go eggshield!). Anyway, he normally breaks it when I dodge. Computer Lucarios do little to me, but it is when my friend uses constant spheres. I always try to find a way to get out of the corner without being hit, but I end up getting hit when I dodge (something like that). The rapid spheres hit me during the tiny lag that occurs before going back into the shield, and then they keep hitting me after that, preventing me from using another shield. I can easily kill my friend though, but there are those rare events during which I can do nothing. Of course, the charged spheres break my shield instantly as well, dodging or not.
Have a nice day.
SHAD.
Short hop air dodge. Generic way to deal with projectile spam that works with every character.
Yoshi has the worst shield in the game because of two reasons: 1) He has more than twice as much shield drop lag as every other character in the game, and 2) He can't jump out of his shield. Together, this makes for a very bad combination. While he carries the benefit of not being able to be shieldstabbed, it doesn't outweigh the major negatives of his shield. Jiggs's shield is mediocre since she can get shieldstabbed pretty easily, but it shouldn't ever break.
It's kinda funny, because in smash 64, yoshi had the best shield in the game. He had something players called the "block cancel," which was essentially an early form of the powershield. There was a glitch where timing your shield well as yoshi caused it to cancel the shieldstun that attacks normally dealt out, which enabled fast retaliations. Remember, shieldstun was huge in that game, to the point nearly every character could shieldbreak combo, so yoshi being the only character that could do this made him pretty special. Unfortunately, that specialness got taken away from him in melee, where every character gained the ability to powershield, which relegated yoshi to having the worst shield in the game for both melee and brawl.
It took me a little while to realize that Pit technically has two shields o.o His Angel Ring and his Mirror Shield...
*two reflectors
They can both reflect projectiles. They're not both shields, though. He does have two shields: the normal shield that every character has and the mirror shield, but the angel ring isn't really a shield since it doesn't stop physical attacks. Thanks to that mirror shield, he's the only character in the game that can shield in the air =p
QuoteShort hop air dodge. Generic way to deal with projectile spam that works with every character.
I usually do that, but it can be difficult in some of the custom stages that we normally play in (especially my Torture Huts). It would be extremely useful in several of the stages that I designed specifically for Yoshi though, including my beloved Yoshi's Dream 3 (I think that is still the name). On that stage, I designed small areas that should work for every one of Yoshi's attacks, and then enough open space for his other attacks (the ones that can not really have specially designed sections, like B or his A attacks). I think I will describe this stage later, since it is one of my favourite stages that I designed just for Yoshi.
Have a nice day.
Sala, instead of explaining, why don't you just upload the stage file?
Anyway, who here wants to get their face beaten in by ganon? Any takers?
i might play ya
Alright. I'll be online. Make sure you fix your items this time. Oh, and could you do me a favor and pick some stages besides FD every time? FD is great and all, but it gets boring after a while. How about mixing it up with some battlefield, smashville, yoshi's island (brawl), and maybe pokemon stadium 1? Those are the stages I'll be putting on random (along with FD).
i kinda hate most of the other stages, but i guess i can try ^^;
ugh, i got my butt kicked ... nyur...
Did I mention I mained pika when I first started brawl? lol
Although I kept turning around when I tried to use jolts =(
And lol@how many knees I missed as falcon
I'd offer you tips, but I dunno how good they'd be since I haven't played brawl competitively in so long.
edit: One thing I can say is that brawl is basically one big zoning game, so if you're not doing anything to control space while also staying safe, you're doing it wrong. It's why full hop jolts are so good. It lets you advance or retreat while controlling space. Standing jolts are a bit less spectacular, since they don't allow you to stay mobile, and they end up controlling less space. Autocanceled (finished before landing) retreating aerials are pretty nice as well, since your foe won't usually be able to punish it, and you can punish their attempt to punish you. With pika, the aerial of choice here is usually sh'd fairs, although the others work as well. Nair, fair, uair, and I believe dair can all finish within a SH, while bair finishes in a FJ. With fair, it may be optimal to sometimes just FF it instead of ACing, to let you combo into something (like a usmash, dsmash, or grab), but you wanna make sure you're actually going to hit and won't just get punished for it. And with dair's landing hitbox, you may also not always want to AC it, since the landing hitbox can keep you pretty safe if used well. You generally want to always AC nair and bair, though.
You seem to understand that dsmash is a really good move for getting people off of you (I had forgotten just how large its hitbox was, actually). Regardless of whether they SDI out or not (which I kept failing to do lol), you still have the initiative, and can either continue with a techchase (running usmash/dsmash/sh instant nair/grab/etc) or throw out a FJ jolt and continue the zoning game, or if they don't SDI out, you can pressure them with thunder (although this will usually be dodged, either directly or via AD). Despite being easy to dodge, thunder is still good... just not amazing. It's completely safe to throw out when they're high above you (as you could probably tell), and you can sometimes punish their AD afterward. Pika's fthrow and dthrow are both really good and can CG against certain characters, so that's probably something to keep in mind. If you're curious about it, I can look up some stuff on SWF for you.
 eh... dont worry about it, i sucked before, and i suck at it now. thats just how i am at games that arent puzzle games...
Eh... I edited in some stuff. Check it out if you're interested.
Oh yeah, and GGs.
i'll probably have to edit my buttons too.. ^^; even then , i dont think i'll improve much..
Ooh, uploading stage file, I will have to do that for all of my stages. Even if I do upload them, I might have to explain some of them a tiny bit (mainly for how I thought of them, or if they are mine or not). Of course, I am back at the trailer for a really long weekend (Wednesday night to Sunday night), on top of finally getting an E-learn course, which will cut my visiting time at GSHC for the rest of July. This might force me to hold off getting Wi-fi as well, unfortunately.
Have a nice day.

I really want to send my homebrew music to my friends so they can mess around with it. Hey, is there a way to extract the textures as flat PNGs so I can edit them in GIMP? I can't seem to find them anywhere...
You don't need to rip the textures yourself. Someone's already done that, so just d/l the textures you want to edit.
What you need should be somewhere in here:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=262863
Hm... Seems interesting enough. By the way, do you know if it is possible to change the polygons depending on character (like how Wario has different polygons for both of his skin sets, or how Pikachu has different hats)? It would be pretty neat to make a different polygon for Mario, to allow for a Dr. Mario skin... Or even for one of the Pokemon sets. I could probably think of several different sets of Pokemon to use for alternate skins, yet be able to keep the same movesets.
Also, can we add skins yet, instead of just editing textures on already existing ones? I would love to be able to have a black Yoshi when playing, or even a white one (while still retaining the other skins if I want). Is there a list or something of everything that can be done with Brawl?
Sorry for asking so many questions, but I have finally decided that I want to try some of this stuff out.
Have a nice day.
For the first question... you mean the model? Vertex hacking has been possible for a while now, although it's a very tedious process. Since the model is located in the same file as the texture for a costume, loading is as simple as choosing the costume that you placed it on.
And stop asking if we can add stuff. We can't. We won't be able to for a long time. If ever. We can only replace stuff. If you want a white or black yoshi, you're gonna have to replace an already existing texture on yoshi (probably his yellow, pink, or light blue costume, to avoid messing with the team colors). The closest we come to being able to add stuff is by using riivolution and swapping out what files will be replaced before you start the game, but that still means you'll be restricted to having to replace files... it's just that you don't always have to replace the same ones.
And I don't know of any master list or anything of what can be done with brawl, but off the top of my head...
1) Texture/model hacking. Not only can we edit what already exists, but we can also import models from other games into brawl.
1a) Characters. Fairly obvious; it's one of the first things people started doing.
1b) Stages. Includes boundary and collision editing. In other words, we not only have the ability to edit existing stages, but we can essentially create whole new ones, and they'll look a whole lot better than what the stage builder could ever give you. However, this does require a bit more work than making a stage builder stage.
1c) Menu hacking. The main menu uses textures and models just as characters and stages do, so we can edit this, too.
2) Hitbox and move property editing. Using PSA, we have almost complete control over the scripts that run when a character executes a move. This means that we can not only change the properties or timings of the hitboxes on a move, but we can also add things like interrupts or require certain conditions to be met in order to do something. We can change what graphics and sound effects play when. We also have the ability to edit the attributes of characters such as run speed, fall speed, jump power, etc, using the same program.
3) Animation editing. Ever wanted to see yoshi do a shoryuken? It's possible via a program called brawlbox. You would just have to animate it (using brawlbox's interface, which is rather annoying for animating). Between this and #2, we can create entirely new moves, and between #1, #2, and #3, we can add whole new characters to the roster (note: by replacing old ones). Brawlbox is also capable of much more than just animation editing, but I don't think I really need to get into the specifics of that here.
4) Music hacking. Custom songs can be streamed from the SD card. You need to use riivolution to replace sound effects, though.
When you look at that list, I think a better question is what can't we do? What we can't do is import entirely new models and animations that have been worked on in a program like maya. We still need a way to convert between .mdl0 files and something maya is capable of working with. We also can't add anything. Everything has to be done by replacing another file in the game. The only way we will ever be able to add entirely new stuff without replacing the old is if someone figures out a way to trick the game into thinking certain file paths exist in the game that actually don't exist, which would then be read from the SD card, and then also putting some way in the game to access those file paths. There are a lot of complications with this, so we don't know if a code for that will ever get made. I know someone was working on it for a while, but I believe they dropped the project.
Great, thanks. Also, this will be the last time that I ask unless one of my friends tells me that it is possible (again...).
QuoteThe only way we will ever be able to add entirely new stuff without replacing the old is if someone figures out a way to trick the game into thinking certain file paths exist in the game that actually don't exist, which would then be read from the SD card, and then also putting some way in the game to access those file paths. There are a lot of complications with this, so we don't know if a code for that will ever get made. I know someone was working on it for a while, but I believe they dropped the project.
Oh wait, this is all done through SD card? I was kind of hoping to be able to copy the game onto my computer, and edit it that way (kind of like ROM hacking)... This is almost an extremely advanced form of using cheat codes, isn't it? Well, thanks for answering my questions, I will probably try it out in the future.
By the way, just to make sure, which normal characters are your favourites? I might be able to play on Wifi again in a month or so, and I would like to get some more training in before I compete.
Have a nice day.
You could say that it uses an advanced form of a cheat code. Using the file patch code, it's possible to load (almost) any file from your SD card, instead of where the game normally loads it from. This is not the only option you have for loading hacks, but it's by far the most accessible. If you really want to, you could indeed get a rip of the game, manually replace the files you wanna replace, and then burn a copy of the edited game and play it via a backup loader. That's how texture hackers used to have to test their stuff - by burning a whole new copy of the game. The file patch code makes it much easier and faster to replace files on the disc.
What "normal" characters are my favorites? As in... vbrawl characters? I hate them all. They're so boring to play as. I may be a naturally campy player, but it's no fun when camping is the only valid strategy. If you wanna gauge who I'll use, well, let me put it this way: I'll use any character in the game as long as I'm still winning. Count on MK being the best character you might face. That shouldn't be too big of a surprise, though, since MK is the best character in the game. =p
MK has his ins and outs. He's incredibly fast, has no landing lag, is virtually unpunishable, has his B move, which blocks some projectiles and isn't interrupted by clashing, and his sideB, which has transcendent priority. But he has only 2 powerful kill moves, 1 if you don't count the Final Smash. He also doesn't have any big hitboxes which he can use to control the opponent.
Having moves with large hitboxes is generally a big help. It's dangerous to try to run straight up to Ike. If he pulls an FSmash out, natural instinct tells you to back away, sometimes even if you could hit him with a dash attack and interrupt him. Likewise, being above Ike is dangerous, he can pull out an Aether relatively quickly in many situations, and Aether hurts.
And Sonic is by far the most broken character in Brawl. His Final Smash is nearly unavoidable if the Sonic player has any skill whatsoever (your only hope of avoiding it is a sidestep dodge, midair dodge or rolling dodge). And once you get hit once, you get hit every time until you're dead. Same thing with Lucas, but Lucas's FS is slightly easier to avoid.
Luigi comes a close second for sheer brokenness: When he pulls out his Final Smash, you're as good as dead, because: 1) If you try to go airborne to escape it, it will knock you out of the sky, often causing you to fall off-edge to your death on small stages. 2) It takes up the whole of Battlefield. 3) You're completely immobile during it, so he can follow it up with a sweetspotted upB, which is often an instant kill, especially after the Flower effect (constant damage)+the constant damage effect (more constant damage) it afflicts you with while inside it. 4) It lasts long enough for him to hit 2 other players with a sweetspotted upB if he hits both of them with it.
Not only his FS, but his attacks seem to be REALLY GOOD at knocking items out of people and getting the Smash Ball. AND his FSmash has crazy insane knockback, on top of being highly unpredictable (because of the subtle animation, it can be quite hard to spot it coming, even though it does have a bit of startup lag). His FAir has similar problems, though with less unpredictable. Sure, his projectile option sucks, but he doesn't even really need projectiles. Not only all this nonsense, but he's just really a pain to fight. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention that once he gets you to near kill percents, he can use his dash attack to lead into his FSmash, and it takes an Epic Feat of Timing to get out of the way fast enough.
Diddy Kong isn't so much broken as he is just a pain. He has his sideB, which is just annoying for obvious reasons, like being insanely quick and having annoying amounts of knockback. Not lethal, but high enough to knock you to the ground. His FSmash isn't really lethal, it's just a pain because it's so fast you can't see it coming. His USmash is pretty much the same. His DSmash is the most predictable one of the bunch, and it's also quite hard to predict. Then of course there's his stupid spammy popgun, which has something most Brawl projectiles don't have: he can control the trajectory to hit different angles. DownB isn't dangerous, just really infuriating. Final Smash is painful and annoying. It's not even epic! On the other hand, it's not, like Sonic or Luigi broken or anything.
The worst part about Sonic and Luigi is that they aren't even fun to play as!
You know what I find funny, though? You said that Brawl has broken defensive options, while someone on KC:MM forums said that Brawl has drastically lacking defensive options compared to most fighting games.
Also, I just noticed today that Marth ends up with less landing lag from his UAir than he does from a full jump. So it's actually BETTER to use your UAir right before landing from any decent height, because it lowers landing lag time, and gives you a short-lasting disjointed hitbox above you to prevent you from getting whacked as you land.
Augh I hate Sonic... so cheap...
I know my friends can already hack music and textures - I've seen it in action (they made the King of Hyrule out of Ganon XD). Now I really want to change sound effects, so I'll send them these tuts. That'd be hilarious to hear the king laugh and say "Dinner" or "Mah Boi" in a match XD XD\
(augh I can't find what I'm looking for. Are the textures even available as editable image files? That's how they usually do it in most 3D animations...)
Ok jamie, let's see just how many ways you can be wrong!

Two powerful kill moves? MK may not be a bowser in terms of power, but between dair (gimps), dsmash (when fresh), fsmash (slow, but can kill early, and isn't very punishable if spaced), first hit nair (this move is retardedly strong, even though you have to get pretty close to your opp to use it), SHUTTLE LOOP (reverse shuttle loop kills at silly percents), and glide attack (completely safe and follows after a shuttle loop), he has plenty of ways to kill the opponent while staying safe himself.
QuoteHe also doesn't have any big hitboxes which he can use to control the opponent.

What. Have you seen MK's dair? Fair? Dsmash? Dtilt? Ftilt? He has range, and he has speed, as well. All of these moves are incredibly safe to throw out, and have the range to beat out most attacks. You can counter half the cast with just dair alone. Ike is a horrible example to go by if you're judging a character's range, considering ike has
a huge frickin sword. Even still, ike's fsmash is slow enough that you should never get hit by it if you're paying attention, and aether is really meh, as well. Shield it or SDI out and then punish. It can be used OOS (out of shield), but you still have to be wary of the foe SDI'ing out and punishing you for it. Ike's fair, nair, and jab are about all that make him usable. Also, being above MK is dangerous, too. Ever get hit by uair uair uair uair upB? It hurts.

lol FSs
No one uses items in competitive play, which includes FSs. Sonic is a pretty bad character overall in brawl, with his best range moves having either a lot of startup (bair) or problems with them that prevent them from ever actually doing anything (uair; just SDI the first hit in and the second will miss). He doesn't really have good priority on any of his approach moves, and there's a reason vbrawl sonics had to adapt a "bait and punish" playstyle. He can't do anything else.
QuoteLuigi comes a close second for sheer brokenness: When he pulls out his Final Smash, you're as good as dead, because: 1) If you try to go airborne to escape it, it will knock you out of the sky, often causing you to fall off-edge to your death on small stages.
Weeeee more FS BS.

Items? Really? Again? Luigi is somewhere around middle of the pack, tbh. He's got some good stuff, but he's also shut down by some characters.
QuoteDiddy Kong isn't so much broken as he is just a pain. He has his sideB, which is just annoying for obvious reasons, like being insanely quick and having annoying amounts of knockback. You clearly haven't played a good diddy. His bananas are what make him good. Nanner locks and setups all over the place. Oh, and his fsmash is easy to SDI out of, greatly diminishing its value as a kill move.
QuoteYou know what I find funny, though? You said that Brawl has broken defensive options, while someone on KC:MM forums said that Brawl has drastically lacking defensive options compared to most fighting games.
Most fighting games have backdashes, backairdashes, and bursting, plus of course the primary defensive ability to block high or low, sometimes with the ability to parry or pushblock. The airdodge in brawl takes the place of airdashes, granting invincibility without changing your momentum. Airdashes would require you to avoid your opponent, but airdodges can go right through their attack. Bursting doesn't really have a purpose to exist; there aren't any combos in brawl to burst out of! Backdashing doesn't really have a purpose to exist, either, when you just turn around at will, but you could say rolling takes its place, even granting invincibility starting as early as frame 4. Then we get to the shield. Instead of a high/low game, your shield covers your whole body and has very little shieldstun (most attacks have negative advantage on block) and very low drop lag (7 frames), in a game where there is no such thing as on-hit cancels. What this means is that attacks are in general punishable off of a shield. In addition to all this, brawl also has spotdodging, which thanks to its IASA frames, is a very safe way to avoid attacks.
QuoteAlso, I just noticed today that Marth ends up with less landing lag from his UAir than he does from a full jump. So it's actually BETTER to use your UAir right before landing from any decent height, because it lowers landing lag time, and gives you a short-lasting disjointed hitbox above you to prevent you from getting whacked as you land.
I don't think uair has less than 4 frames of lag. His soft landing animation has 2 frames of lag before you can interrupt with something. His hard landing animation has 4 frames of lag before you can interrupt with something. This is true for all characters afaik. You're seeing the animation go on for longer than the uair's landing anim, but it doesn't actually have more lag.
You see, THERE'S the difference! I'm talking about who's more broken in CASUAL play. "Competitive" play is for people without a sense of fun. Brawl isn't about a sheer skill contest. Brawl is about insane and hilarious kills, and insane and hilarious suicides! Brawl is about Snake killing you after he's already dead! Brawl is about FUNNY! And "competitive" play ruins all that.
Plus, it just causes hard feelings, when the whole point of it is "competitive". In regular Brawl, you can't control when the stage decides it's time for you to die! You can't control when a crate spawns above your head, sending you flying off-edge! In regular Brawl, nobody really cares who wins or loses, because sometimes items can kill you even if your opponent never manages to touch you! The only times you should care about losing is when you get beaten by a level 1-6 CPU. Yes, that's right, if a level 7-9 CPU wins, you shouldn't even CARE unless you get horribly owned!
And MK's FSmash has kill power? Don't make me laugh. That move outright SUCKS. Its hitbox is completely horizontal, so it's a pain to hit with, and hitting with it doesn't do much damage and its kill power is close to non-existent! Sure, it can kill at 150%, but that's not kill power. Ike can kill you with HIS JAB COMBO at 150% (granted, he's Ike, but still! Point is, his BASIC ATTACK COMBO, which comes out faster than MK's FSmash, and is, well, A JAB, kills at similar percents to MK's FSmash).
Not only that, but MK has trouble forcing the opponent close to the edge, because most of his moves have no knockback to speak of! NAir is really the only option there, though it is quite a viable option, due to the fact that it comes out so fast.
Meta Knight does have aerial range with DAir and UAir, but on the ground, often characters without disjointed hitboxes can out-range him, like Samus (though she does have a few, they are aerials and USmash, which doesn't hit people on the ground anyway) and Donkey Kong (his one disjointed hitbox has less range than his other moves). And as for characters WITH disjointed hitboxes, well, let me name a few who can out-range Meta Knight: Pit, Marth, Ike, Link, Zero Suit Samus, ROB.
Not only all of that, but he has no projectiles! So, if you're one of those crazy competitive players who plays with items off, he has no access to any ranged attacks, which puts him at a disadvantage against characters like Link, or especially Pit and ROB.
Items are actually one of the "balancing" factors in Brawl: Anyone can kill with a Dragoon (but why Dragoon and not Hydra? Everyone knows that the Hydra is the one that deals instant death to other air ride machines, and not Dragoon), anyone can kill with a Warpstar, anyone can blow stuff up with a super scope.
Play the game as you want - that's how I go. I personally like playing with tons of items with my friends because it's hilarious, even though it levels the playing field a bit unfairly.
Although when I get a Wii I will practice for competitive play. :3
Jamie: Almost your entire argument can be shred to pieces by 5 words: "Competitive players have fun, too." We wouldn't play this way if we didn't have fun doing so. Believe it or not, some people actually don't like items, and have the most fun when they're testing their own skill verses someone else's without any interference.
As for MK-specific stuff... you don't really understand this game on a competitive level to begin with, so I'm thinking more and more it's a moot point to try to explain why you're wrong. Regardless, I'll go over each of them.
Fsmash definitely kills before 150%. Something like 120-130% iirc. The problem is that it's hard to land due to its slow startup (it actually has a pretty nice hitbox), so against a careful player, you'll almost never land it. Anything that can kill before 140% in brawl is a good kill move, though, since people almost always live to 150%+ each stock, unless they get gimped... at like 70.
MK's fair ties in range with marth's fair to give you an idea of how much range MK actually has. He doesn't get outranged easily, and in 99% of situations, his moves are faster than whatever the opponent is doing. And keep in mind that his hitboxes are all disjointed.
Characters with projectiles aren't that big of an issue for him either. He can close in easily with SHAD or other defensive options, and once he gets in, gl using those projectiles. When MK is at a sword's length from you, you cannot zone him. For the record, MK has no bad matchups. His worst matchups are 50/50. You can't say he's at a disadvantage to someone, when he's never at a disadvantage to anyone.
And items just make broken characters more broken. Ganon sucks without items. He also sucks with items, because he isn't fast enough to get to them quick and use them before the opponent. Fast characters dominate with items on (not just fast movement, but fast moves). They don't need kill moves since items can kill at such low percents anyway.
Ganon does kind of suck. I've easily killed people with much higher skill levels than me when they were using him. I didn't like using Zelda one bit either...
But yeah, items are seriously broken (which is what makes them so funny). I honestly don't like playing with items unless its for the humour because I don't really get any better with them (I racked up several kills by just standing in place with a Fire Flower o.o - albeit hilarious, it isn't exactly satisfying). I really want to learn how to play the game, not necessarily win - that's why I prefer matches that allow me to die an infinite amount of times, so I can learn from my mistakes and get better (although when you win with Pit it's more like getting hit with the stick instead of the carrot, considering his cheesy voice acting).
Hey, do you think we should work together to make a Brawl homebrew? That'd be pretty sweet.
Eh, Pit's voice acting isn't that bad. It's not great, but it's not that bad.
Y'know what would be funny? If sometimes characters had combination lines when you win in a team, like the Tales series.
Falco: "You're not worth the trouble!"
Fox: "Stop taunting, Falco."
Or, if Wolf and Falco/Fox are on the same team and win:
Wolf: "I never thought I'd be caught on the same team as you..."
Fox: "You learn something every day."/Falco: "It's a new experience for you, huh?"
Screw killing people with Fire Flowers. Instead, just infinite them against the wall with King Dedede's basic A combo.
Please no no no no, not combonation lines ;_;
It's really annoying when someone locks you in an attack, like if they grab you or something, or if they use a special move on you that can hold you in place for an extended period of time o.o
Yes, please, no combination scripts. Besides, Yoshi is normally not legible (same with DK and Diddy, not to mention Pokemon, and Bowser), Mario is almost always mute-ish (same with Link and Samus), and most other characters sound... Well, stupid (at least in my opinion). Of course, if it just text that comes up on the screen, then it might be fine.
Also, a group homebrew sounds cool. If a few people agree to it, I might try helping out with ideas.
Have a nice day.
Edit: Of course, Bowser can talk. He just doesn't sound them out like we do. We also have those characters which are by themselves, like Game & Watch or Snake.
Yeah, well, I've already got one for Snake.
Sonic: "Sonic's the name, speed's my--"
Snake: "NOM TASTEH."
Sonic: "Ahh!"
Offtopic: I've also figured out why GS characters have no personality. No, it's not due to lack of optional cutscenes, it's due to lack of end-battle lines! They seriously need end-battle lines for GSDD.
And why don't they use voice acting? It's quite easy to do on DS.
Honestly, voice acting turns me off of most games, if it involves people saying actual words (Link's funny sound effects do not count obviously, and neither does it count when Peach says "Mario"). In fact, I think I only have one game with voice acting in it, and I have not played it for a few years now. I would not likely get Golden Sun Dark Dawn if it had voice acting (besides, video game music is enough, I hardly need people who sound funny insinuating that I can't read). Of course, I do like a minimal amount of voice acting in certain games. I mean, I like it when Peach reads out loud the letter in Super Mario 64, or when she comes back, and is prepared to make a cake for Mario. As long as it is not throughout the whole game, I like it.
Yeah, but it would be too hard to have good lines with most of Nintendo's top franchises (that is, if we stick with games and avoid television and manga). I mean, what is Link going to say... ? This?
Zelda: Thank you for saving Hyrule Link!
Link: Hyaah! Hrah! Ah! Hyaah!
Have a nice day.
It depends on the quality of voice acting. For example, Pit makes me want to barf up a wall in Brawl. Jade Curtiss in TotA, however, has a pleasant voice and is nice to listen to, and the actor did an excellent job. It also depends on the lines being acted. For example, I have little complaints about Shadow's voice in the Sonic series (especially in comparison to the rest of the voice acting), however, when he says something like "I'm the coolest!" it screams of cheese.
Regal Bryant in ToS2. Pretty great voice acting. "THAT WAS PATHETIC! >:D" (However, he sucks in-battle because he doesn't have enough SP to even equip many of his abilities, since he has to have Sky Attack I and Sky Attack II equipped, so he can't even equip Ability Plus, despite knowing the skill when you get him. But that's off-topic.)
And Lloyd Irving in ToS1. Like his voice there. BUT HIS ToS2 VOICE ACTOR SUCKS!
Pit's voice acting is strangely OK in my opinion. A bit cheesy, but nothing too bad. (It's not like it's NARUTO BAD or anything.) Fox and Falco are pretty good considering the characters. Meta Knight should have had the voice actor from the anime.
@Sala: Obviously, characters that aren't gonna talk don't need lines. XD
But Fox and Falco talk in their game, and they have voice acting in their games, so OBVIOUSLY they need voice acting in Brawl.
Pit's VAing is just annoying. I can't say if it's bad or not. I just know I hate it. =p
Regal's VAing was probably one of the best of the entire group in ToS1.
Quote from: CharonHey, do you think we should work together to make a Brawl homebrew? That'd be pretty sweet.
Explain...?
I prefer Regal's ToS2 VAing. Mostly, because of the line: "THAT WAS PATHETIC!" when he wins fights. I mean, ToS1 Regal says the same line, but ToS2 Regal says it differently.
I gotta be the only guy in the universe who doesn't completely hate Pit's voice acting. XD
Pit has a better voice than Toon Link.
Anyway, has anyone here who played Melee thought that it was odd for Pit to have a 3D model for his trophy while the Ice Climbers had a 2D one? Kind of makes you wonder how far back a 3D Pit has been planned. It is fun to think back on it now, especially since Pit has a 3D model, and now he will be getting more games (at least one of which is a sequel).
Have a nice day.
So bored... well, if there's anyone on here who wants to play against me in brawl, here's my friend code: 1892-1202-1421
I prefer playing as Marth btw.
I would love to play... Except that I still need to get a stable wi-fi connection. I am hoping to be able to get it some time this month though.
Have a nice day.

Sure. I'll play you. Might even go for some marth dittos.

If you wanna play some matches, I'm available right now, actually, so just lemme know, and I'll get online.
Great! I have it all set now, just waiting.
Man, I wish my friend had their wi-fi working. I'd play you guys too (even though I suck).
Well, since I still at least have a working Gamecube, I gave Melee a try, and IT IS WAY BETTER THAN BRAWL HOLY SHOES. I quickly became a little beast with Ness (although he sucks in Brawl, so I'll still use Pit). Why didn't I get into this series earlier, it's awesome.
Also, messed around with texture editing. Here's my first few that I did. Not done with them yet (finally got to get Brawlbox, it's awesome), so I'll post them again when I'm fully content.

Still working on them as you can see. I'm going to fix anything I don't like with Eric's textures, then I'm going to work on animations.
Oh goody, a Brawl topic. I seem to be good at playing as Wolf or Link...hard to say with me. Other than those two....Marth.
I hate brawl, but if you wanna play, seraphim, lemme know. I use whoever as long as I'm not getting trashed... mostly low tiers (I used to be a ganon main). When I start reaching for the higher tiers it's either because I'm losing or because I'm bored. And I try to avoid playing MK in friendlies unless prompted.
@charon: Heh. Yes, melee rocks <3
Either my friends have been sucking lately or I've been getting better - I swept Metaknight to the side yesterday in a 1-1. lol they spam his teleport move to get closer to me so I just punish them for being so predictable lol
Sounds cool, leafgreen. ^^ But man, do I miss Melee, too. I always played as Roy. That is, when I unlocked him. Otherwise I was straight up Link. Maybe I'll dig out my GC games and play it again one day.
*points to signature*
Ness is awesome. I almost never use anyone else in Melee.
Pit's nowhere near a Ness clone (that's what Lucas is for) but he's comfortable as well.

Probably both. Outside of a banworthy glitch you can do with it that gives infinite invincibility, his teleport sucks >_>

Please, call me leaf. And roy is so much fun. It's just a shame that his tips were so bad that they may as well have been a range decrease >_>
Lemme know when you want to play. My FC is 2449-4328-2244.
Hm... Now that I only have an exam before I am finished this course, I think that I will be able to get wifi soon.
Also, after watching some wishlist videos that people (some of which are deranged) made, I have two things to ask...
1. Characters you would like to see in the next Smash Bros., if there will be another one.
2. Characters you wish do not return, if there is a new installment for the series.
New Characters:
Mario/DK:
Bowser Jr.
Dixie Kong
Baby Mario (but none of the other babies)
Zelda:
Toon Zelda/Tetra (unless Toon Link goes)
Pokemon:
The new Dark type legendary (but only if Lucario goes)
Mewtwo (Just kidding)
Star Fox:
Krystal (have not played very much of the Fox franchise, but she looks cool)
Fire Emblem:
Lynn
Ephraim (someone with a spear would be nice for a change)
Golden Sun:
Isaac
Jenna
Sonic:
Tails (only if Sonic does not go away)
Characters to never return:
Toon Link (but only if there is no Toon Zelda)
And this is it. I actually don't mind the rest of the characters too much.
And this is the best that I could come up with for now, but I will have some more ideas later.
Have a nice day.

 once again my favorite characters are put down.
although I don't really think they'll be another smash bros.
And apparently Nintendo doesn't care enough about Golden Sun to include Isaac and Jenna in SSB.
And they need to include a spear-wielding FE lead in SSB at some point. Sword characters are really overdone.
I don't really care if there's a smash 4 at this point. Brawl hacking can give me everything I could want out of a smash 4 and more. Although I'm sure nintendo will eventually cash out on another smash bros title... next gen.
Smash Bros joins Mario Kart for the one-per-gen thing they've got going on. Each generation can enjoy it.
Mario Kart had SNES, N64, NGC, and now Wii. Also showed up on NDS. Probably will be on 3DS.
Smash Bros has N64, NGC, and Wii. Probably will get a game for the 3DS.
Yeah, the once per generation thing is quite nice. I think Mario Golf had something like that, pretty much showing up on almost every system since the GBC.
I would rather not have a game on the 3DS, but it almost seems like something that will be done (just look at the new Paper Mario and the Ocarina of Time remake).
QuoteAnd they need to include a spear-wielding FE lead in SSB at some point. Sword characters are really overdone.
Exactly my thought with my wishes for Ephraim. Of course, he is more likely to be an assist trophy, due to only being in one game.
Have a nice day.
I would like to see Hector. Also, just because they said Brawl was the last installment, doesn't mean that they won't make a 4th installment. They said Melee was the last installment, but we still got Brawl ;). SN: Yay for Brawl hacking
At the time of Brawl, Ike had only been in one game.
And what's up with this? I mean, TWO non-Nintendo titles BOTH have more representation in Brawl than Golden Sun, which IS published by Nintendo.
Also, they should've used GS summons as an Assist Trophy. Basically, you open the assist trophy, Djinn pop out, and then do whatever summon needs those particular Djinn!
QuoteAt the time of Brawl, Ike had only been in one game.
That is true, but I thought they were working on a sequel? The problem with Sacred Stones is that it does not seem like a sequel will be made from it (but it would be nice if I am wrong). Otherwise, it could be like the Zelda/Sheik thing, with Sheik having only been in Ocarina of Time, yet she was planned for an appearance in Twilight Princess (apparently).
QuoteAnd what's up with this? I mean, TWO non-Nintendo titles BOTH have more representation in Brawl than Golden Sun, which IS published by Nintendo.
I know, right? Especially when comparing all of the Sonic trophies to the Yoshi trophies (KOed!). I mean, why not have the Stork as a trophy? Poochy? Kamek? An Egg? Baby Bowser would have been a great trophy, as he appears in at least three Yoshi games. I only remember having the two Yoshi trophies (regular and final smash), Baby Mario, Baby Peach, and... That is it. I mean, look at all of the Metal Gear and Sonic trophies, and Yoshi only gets four. Why Jet or Silver, and no Kamek or Baby Bowser? Actually, having a Raven trophy would have been neat too. Raphael the Raven... Yet we get a stupid Cardboard Box! Kind of the same with Wario actually, having few trophies (although for him, I kind of understand)...
QuoteAlso, they should've used GS summons as an Assist Trophy. Basically, you open the assist trophy, Djinn pop out, and then do whatever summon needs those particular Djinn!
That would have been perfect! Like, have the Judgement summon, or even Daedalus, depending on the djinn. Yeah, having all of those missiles aiming at people in the game would be neat.
Also, considering the popularity of the Smash Bros. series, I kind of doubt that Brawl will be their last installment. Hey, almost anything could be better than commercial characters having their own games (wait, was that a piece of bread wearing underwear? Ew.).
Have a nice day.
I actually completely forgot about Daedalus. Was too busy imagining people in Brawl getting pwnd by Iris and thrown into the sun. Or pwnd by Megaera. Or Ramses. Or Zagan *background switch, big nasty is flying along in the background, then goes out of sight, then suddenly HE'S NOT IN THE BACKGROUND ANYMORE OH C*** BOOM*
Why do you guys insist on having summons as playable characters? Isn't Metaknight broken enough?

I don't really care if there's a smash 4 at this point. Brawl hacking can give me everything I could want out of a smash 4 and more. Although I'm sure nintendo will eventually cash out on another smash bros title... next gen.
Perhaps a new SSB will allow us to have more working grounds along the side of graphics. Looking at models in Brawlbox really reveals how simple they are. I would love to see a SSB as beautiful as some of the games on the PS3.
To be honest, Snake and ROB both annoyed me upon inclusion because a) Most MGS games are released on Sony consoles, b)wtf is ROB and c) Because of these two characters, characters like Saki, Isaac and Lynn had to be assist trophies instead of playable characters
although you could just switch the models lol. Some people give the excuse that ROB was put in there because of the Subspace Emissary but I thought that was more of a "hey let's try something new" thing than a fun playable mode. There's a lot of possibilities for awesome playable characters but they had to pick the most random ones.
I hate Ike. I hate Ike with a passion. Instead of improving on Roy, they had to replace him with a character that still sucks. I mean, whenever I think Marth, I think Roy! Why the hell did they include Ike in the first place if he's only appeared in one game asforementioned? Ugh. And what about Lucas? He's practically a clone of Ness. What made Ness fun was that he was unique (and had that epic Okay taunt); adding Lucas screws that all up. They could have picked Jeff, who could have actually been quite different, but no.
speaking of marth I just started using him and he is absolutely amazinging like
Are you serious, Charon? These are the same people who want to be able to CAST summons as if they were psynergy with some kind of summoner class. You should have seen this coming - their view on such things is "Game balance be damned, I'm working on rule of cool!"
To be fair, they were talking about making them assist trophies, not playable characters. Items are broken by default, so... it wouldn't really do much to game balance.
What he said (^).
I don't mind Ike, but that is only because I can pretty much dodge and counter every move when he is controlled by a person or is an NPC. For using him, he is much too slow for me. I do have a new dislike for Wolf though, and I need more practice against Link/Toon Link.
Yeah, Lucas is practically a clone. Same with Toon Link, but he is faster in his movement, and slower for attacks (still rings "clone").
QuoteTo be honest, Snake and ROB both annoyed me upon inclusion because a) Most MGS games are released on Sony consoles, b)wtf is ROB and c) Because of these two characters, characters like Saki, Isaac and Lynn had to be assist trophies instead of playable characters
Exactly. Ice Climbers were random, Pit was kind of random (but cool), Game & Watch was based on some of the earliest games... What is ROB? Why is there an army guy as a playable character? He can shoot people with a rifle, yet he makes it into the game (without the rifle though, but holy cow).
Quotespeaking of marth
He is okay as a character, but he is too easy to mock. I mean, if you make him stand in place, look at how he moves his arms and brushes his
tiara hair. Not to mention his stance, and also how he walks, oh, and- ...(10 minutes later)... !!!
Have a nice day.
QuoteItems are broken by default
Exactly. My least favourite would either be the Smash Orb (but I love using Yoshi's ability), or the Dragoon.
QuoteThese are the same people
One of them? The most that I would like for a summoner class would be if there are a few of the Call spells, but we already have a similar class.

That's what makes it amazing when you win with him. And especially with White Marth. Seriously amazing stuff man.
(its also amazing when you use your down strong while the stage is changing on Castle Siege to push the opponent to the far left or right so that when the stage reappears, both of you die. Fun to do, especially when you have the more stock hehehehe. Marth even thinks its funny because he say "ha" "hee" "ho" ha" like 20 times lol. It's dumb, it's predictable, but it is
hilarious)
I thought Subspace Emissary was plenty cool and very playable. Granted, there are certain things wrong with it (standardized jumping so all characters get exactly the same height, standardized running speed, the part where P2 doesn't have to deal with all those things).
And on the subject of Summons being broken assist trophies, just think of how rare Mew is in Pokeballs and then that'd be about right for Iris' appearance rate.
And what about the part where Roy was a MARTH CLONE, and the part where Ike isn't. Granted, in my opinion, they should have replaced Roy with Ephraim from Sacred Stones rather than Ike. Because Ephraim's weapon, Siegmund, is fire-based as well, and because it'd be something other than a sword.
And Lucas's PK Freeze is pure epic.
Yes, Toon Link is a clone. No, he shouldn't be a clone, but he is. I mean, why doesn't he call in his steamboat from Phantom Hourglass for his FS, or summon a massive windstorm with the Ballad of Gales? And adult Link should probably change to Wolf Form when his Triforce Slash ends.
On that note, they should have kept Mario's old downB, and FLUDD should have been upB. Rocket Nozzle and Hover Nozzle anyone?
Not gonna comment on clone stuff. Always leads to a dumb argument.

Sounds like a good idea, but it was only used in the one game (whereas Ganon has been in more games than Ganondorf, but not in that form, and the Triforce has been in pretty much every non-Toon Link Zelda game, aside from Majora's Mask). In fact, Ganondorf should have been able to use his sword...

Well they most likely changed that so that they can give Mario and Luigi a different feel when playing as them.

Hey guys,
does anybody remember me? I did not find any topics to reply at the weeks before but finally I found this topic about Super Smash Bros. series. Well, you were talking about clones like Toon Link or Lucas, didn't you? I think those "clones" are no clones because they have not the same but only similar moves. Toon Link's moves for example does effect the enemy different than Link's moves. The smash to the left or right from Toon Link does paralyze you with the first blow and the second will strike you away.
I do not think anybody agrees with me but i don't mind.
By the way: my main character in Brawl is Toon Link, my second is Zelda (although Zelda was my first main a year ago but Toon Link has his boomerang...), and my third is Captain Falcon or Ness I think. Actually I could play every character in brawl.
Most competitive players share your viewpoint on "clones." Most clones play very differently from each other, which is what matters.

Agreed - those minor differences truly make all the difference. The fact that Roy fell like a brick back in Melee makes me have a lot more difficulty using him.

We can probably play sometime tomorrow night.
Just wondering... what do people consider to be an Ike-n00b? I've been playing Ike for ages now and just wanted to know.<---As in, when do people think that you're no longer an Ike-n00b, not what the term actually means. :medal:
[Main characters= Ike, ZS Samus, Zelda/Mario]
:FalconPunch:
I just beat LV.9 Captain Falcon with white Marth!!!
:FalconPunch:<Marth
An ike noob is an ike player... that is also a noob. Surprise, right?
If you're celebrating over beating a cpu, you probably still count.
Leaf has a point about his whole post. Level 9s tend to be really easy, even on normal stages. A team of three level 9s against you would probably be a feasible excuse for a celebration, provided you do not create a Torture Hut stage to kill them more easily first. Either that, or a successful run of Boss Battle/All Star mode on Very Hard or higher. Hard is nice, but not as fun.
As for Ike, he is a decent character. However, I am almost always able to beat people who use Ike.
I was just saying about beating a Lv.9 Captain Falcon due to the previous posts about how Marth was easily mockable, not because I think that it's an actual achievement...
I've played SmashBros.Brawl long enough to know that Lv.9 Computers are easy to beat.
Oh yeah, that makes more sense now. Still, with the amount of... pictures that I have taken, pretty much every character can be mocked easily. DK, Ivysaur, and Peach are three that come to mind.
Marth is amazing against human players, but he sucks against CPUs. Why? Because they read your button inputs, and because they never attack when a human would in their approach. Or when they do, its whenever you're not prepared for it. When playing Marth against a CPU, and they make a jump to get towards you, the result is either: You try to punish them with Forward Smash, and they launch an aerial that just so happens to be ever-so-slightly faster than your FSmash the instant you press the button; or you Counter to prepare for the attack that they would have launched if you'd used FSmash, only they don't use it, and then hit you the exact frame your Counter wears off. Or, you could try a short-hop FAir, but they'll just airdodge and punish with USmash.

Eff I know. And the higher their level the more they predict your moves. It's funny to watch a CPU Marth Up-B out of nowhere though.
Oh yeah, I forgot about their ability to predict your moves. On the positive side, the lighter gravity is amazing when using certain characters.
Although marth is a rather usefull character at some times (down-special and side-special mainly) I think tht his final smash is far to easy to dodge...
Marth's downB is too easy to punish. You shouldn't be using it more than once every couple games. It can work as a surprise tactic occasionally, but if you spam it, you'll just get baited and get punished against anyone with half a brain. It's much more practical to shield and retaliate out of shield than it is to counter something. Likewise, while in the air, you're usually better off trying to airdodge through their attack to get down to the ground. Counter is better in the air than on the ground, if only because your options in the air are more limited, but it still isn't something to rely on too much.
If anything, I'd say marth depends on sideB and fair for punishing and spacing. SideB is excellent for punishing, coming out frame 4 (just barely slower than most character's jabs; marth's jab comes out frame 7) and scoring good damage if it connects to the end. (Note: A frame is 1/60th of a second.) Even better, each hit of sideB counts toward the stale moves queue, so two full uses of the move means wiping out 8/10 slots of the stale move queue, almost completely refreshing all your other moves, bringing their damage and kill power back up. When marth is zoning, he'll usually be doing empty short hops, so he can threaten with the huge range of a fair, without actually having to commit to it (since it's punishable if he whiffs). Dtilt is a good poke, fairly safe. I believe marth also has some grab release shenanigans against a good portion of the cast, but I'm not that familiar with brawl, so I might be wrong. UpB is a surprisingly good move; it's invulnerable frames 1-5, and hits frame 5, so if your opponent leaves even a one frame gap (and is close enough to be hit by upB), you can upB them practically for free. UpB out of shield is one of his best punishes, but you have to make sure you hit your opponent, since if you whiff, you're stuck in the air for an awfully long time while you come back down, during which time they will undoubtedly punish you. If this move is fresh, it will also kill excellently. Refreshing upB and fair/uair is one of the most important uses for sideB. Tipped fair and uair are both great for killing with marth, and can also be used to juggle and frame trap the opponent; marth can do either two fairs or a fair followed by a uair in a single short hop. This may seem like a good zoning trick, but it's actually fairly punishable, so you only wanna do it when you can hit them with the rising fair. Tipped fsmash is a good early kill move, but it's fairly unsafe, so you have to be careful when throwing it out. Usmash is a fairly good kill move in brawl (horrible in melee, though lol), but like most of marth's kill moves, it's unsafe if you're not careful with it. Usmash is good for catching people out of the air or out of a techroll while on a platform above you (although uair does this, as well). Dsmash is his fastest kill move (frame 6 - a mere 1/10th of a second), but it's horribly unsafe on whiff or block - he can't move again until frame 63, almost a full second after the first hit frame. By comparison, most tilts have total animation lengths in the 20s-30s and most smashes are in the 40s to early 50s, and have more startup (so their endlag is even less), and even those moves are fairly easy to punish. To make matters worse, dsmash can be difficult to space for the tip, so most people don't bother with it. Another way marth can get kills is via footstool -> dair, or tipped bairs/nairs. Really, marth has more kill moves than most of the rest of the cast. Most of his game comes down to zoning with fairs, punishing with sideB/fair/upB, and then waiting till the opponent gets to a high enough percent for one of his kill moves to finish them, and landing that kill move.
I love Super Smash Bros. C= I have been a fan ever since the N64 version. Have all three games. Only really play Brawl now though. I never have enough people to play with unfortunately. I have favorite characters that I'm better with but I usually switch it up a lot.

Don't count on that happening anytime soon. He still hasn't played me yet, and I challenged him months ago. (Then again, I think we both forgot about that until you reminded me of it here...)
Anyway, if you want someone to play online, I'll play ya. I'm not really that big of a brawl fan, so I use pretty much everyone to keep things more interesting. I love melee, though, and 64 can be pretty fun, too.

I guess I should've quoted mari's post, then. It had nothing to do with you. Although, technically, that invitation to play online goes for anyone here.
I thought so. I should have just left it. Oh well.
Oh yeah, I forgot about your challenge. I would have played against you, but I still do not have wi-fi (which I should have pointed out in that post). I will probably post an update in here when I do get it, which will be after I save some money for it. Besides, I also need it so I can use my laptop in my room.
I'd love to play! But... it... looks like Leaf already departed. Darn. |D
Ah well. There's always tomorrow. Gimme a time (with timezone - I'm EST, but I dunno what you are), and I can probably be on.

YOU try airdodging through Link's USmash! Oh, that's right: It's impossible. So my only chance is to see if I can time my fall and Counter well enough to interrupt. It's also obscenely difficult (if not outright impossible) to airdodge through ZSS's USmash, but thankfully that's not an issue because you can just go around.
I would like to have a match with someone... The only matches I get are with relatives and inexperienced friends. My brother keeps on putting it on stamina match which gets annoying after a while..., and inexperienced people are never fun to play against (not really anyway)... :)

Well, the easy answer to that is: don't end up in the air against link. But... failing that, if you know for a fact that link is gonna usmash you, then sure, there's nothing wrong with countering; counter is a move you use when you know for sure your opponent is going to hit you. However, counter isn't your only option in this situation. You do still have the option of DJing away, and/or using your sideB to stall in the air. DJ back -> ff fair/sideB (depending on spacing) should be able to punish link's usmash fairly effectively.

You had a surprisingly good DK. c:
Edit: Er.. maybe next time. I've unplugged my Wii and settled into bed and something tells me you're getting kind of frustrated. I think it's time for a break man.
Yeah, GGs.
I don't mind losing. It's just those damn smash balls that piss me off so much. Completely interrupt the flow of the fight, turning it into a race to grab the smash ball, and when someone does get it, it's basically an instant kill (assuming you actually know what the move does... which I obviously did not with MK).
On DK, thanks. He was one of my mains when I still played brawl. I'm fairly good with spacing bairs with characters in general, so generally whether or not I can play a brawl character comes down to whether or not their bair is any good. I think GAW is the only character that I play in melee/project m that I can actually play in brawl decently... and it's pretty much solely because of that lol
To be fair, Meta Knight's Final Smash just sucks really badly.Yoshi's final smash is a thousand times better. Meta Knight's can't even KO a foe if they don't have significant damage (Or aren't increda-light)
Meanwhile Yoshi's is practically a garauntee'd KO assuming the user is competent.
Probably true, but smash balls just make me rage in general. Especially when my opponent is good enough to offer me a challenge without them. I usually put up with them when I'm facing someone worse than me, since I figure the added random element acts as a bit of a handicap and gives them more of a chance to win. But it just pisses me off immensely when I'm trying to actually play the game, and those things start to interfere. I similarly hate warioware; constantly going into the minigames becomes a huge frustration when trying to fight. It's one of my favorite levels when frozen, however.
I don't really care for smash balls anyway. Didn't realize they were apparently on when I was playing.
Of course, I hate stages with no dynamic elements, like Final Destination and Battlefield.
They never punish people who just tunnel vision and get locked into their best static strategy. That and Final Destination is so overused that everyone is /used/ to that stage and plays better due to comfort.
Ah, so that's why you kept picking delfino. I like delfino (and actually threw it on random after a few matches), but generally prefer the simpler stages. I'm actually not a huge fan of FD, and prefer having platforms to play with. There's a lot more interesting stuff you can do with platforms than you can do without them. Personally, I don't see much difference between having the stage change midway through a match and simply playing a new match on another stage, except for the amount of time you spend on a given stage layout.
I have a death grudge against FD. No dynamic elements whatsoever, badly designed edges that screw with some characters' third jump occasionally, and 70% of the Brawl community doesn't know how to play on any other stage. >_<; That's why I ended the match right at the beginning that one time we got on FD. I think I was Marth and god knows Marth is one of those characters prone to getting screwed by the edges.
FD has been called the "least neutral neutral stage." Some characters get a huge advantage on that level, while others... don't.
I'm pretty sure I was GAW that match, and he gets screwed by the ledges as well, afaik. Although with brawl's autosweetspot mechanic making recovery so easy, I never really found it a problem with anyone.
I find those edges to be stupid no matter who is getting screwed by them. I'd rather get KOs myself, rather than rely on some stupid stage gimp >.>;
I know that it has been a while since someone last posted in this topic, but I have wi-fi now! Because this, I was wondering if anyone would like to have a match or two with me? My friend code is 3308-4556-9868 if anyone is interested.
I like using Pit, Link, Marth, and Samus most in Brawl, whenever I get the chance to play, as I don't have a Wii.
64: Samus, Fox.
Melee: Samus, Fox, Falco.
Brawl: Never played, probably would be Samus, Fox, Falco (don't even know if he's in there).
Falco is in Brawl. So is Wolf, for that matter. Falco's playstyle has been changed significantly, though. His sideB now spikes enemies, downB is actually more an offensive move, as he kicks his reflector in front of him, rather than just holding it. It can hit through walls, but it does make it harder to use as a shield. He also has a new forward smash, new forward air attack, and new neutral air attack.
Oh, I would really like to try that.... sigh
My brother (who owns our copy of SSBB) has banned us from using Falco, because he got beaten by someone using Falco once. My favourite characters to use are Snake, because he can do all sorts of useful tricks, Pit, who can fly and shoot from a distance, and Link, who is a pretty good all-rounder. I find Kirby's final smash so annoying, though.
As for Final Smashes, I like Link's, Pit's, Marth's, Mario's, and I like Bowser's, Samus', Ganondorf's, Wolf's and Snake's.
Oh, and Yoshi's and Red's.
Pit's annoys me because its really lame, and rarely results in kills, unless you're lucky. Although, Pit's isn't nearly as lame as Marth's...
Pit can fly but he's pretty much useless while doing it. I only find it useful to help recover (obviously) and occasionally taunt opponents. You should preferably break your flight early though because falling down suuuucks, and Pit falls fairly slowly. Pit also has this really annoying feature that he only has 2 really useful kill moves, one for ground (side) and air (bair). Bair is ninja-quick but requires getting used to and feels easy to spam, while side is a two hit attack; if you hit with the first hit but not the second there's like no knockback.
His shield is lulz though :D

Yeah, I like Pit's FS, but only barely, but even Marth's isn't as useless as Peach's. Peach's is crap.
I dislike playing Peach in general. She just feels too weird... I play a lot of Ike these days. He's hilariously fun.
Link is fun to use aswell, that's how it is. I play Wolf and Cap. Falcon alot. FAAAAAAAALCOOOOOON PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH.

Marth's is badace, simply cause it's HOLY CRAP FAST. And why doesn't Falco get an Arwing? He should just have Slippy warp in an arwing, then go around spamming barrel rolls, lasers, and bombs at people.
And Pit's dash attack is a good KO move too, if you're opponent is at 140+ to 170+ damage, depending on the stage. His glide attack is his strongest KO move, if you can land it. It's notoriously difficult.
Press down on the control stick while falling to speed up your fall. It helps, a lot.
My friend just spams Link's side smash and bow. And he doesn't know the timing on Link's double jump, so he fails at platforming. Also, he spams Zero Suit Samus's down smash. Just: downsmashdownsmashdownsmashdownsmashdownsmashSIDESMASH. I can't help but think that he really ought to use sideB instead. Has higher KO power.
And Peach's final smash is SUPER cheap! It hits the whole stage, and it zooms the camera in on her so you can't tell what's going on, AND it provides more free healing than Kirby's does! That said, I hate playing as Peach. She feels weird.
Pit's FS is fail because it can be shielded. Unlike EVERYONE else's. Even Yoshi's.
Ganondorf: SideB ALL THE THINGS. SideB -> Dtilt -> downB, or SideB -> down smash. Works wonders. lol, one time my friend (same friend who always spams as Link) kept rolling backwards to his feet instead of forward, so I just spammed sideB -> downB on him all day, then KOd him with side smash.
in Melee my best character would be Link.
I had never used link much if at all when I first got the game. I would use fox, Samus, Kirby, Bowser, and Pikichu.
but nothing would ever stand out. I even went to a tournament and used fox, it came down to me and one other guy in the first match, he had one life, i had 2. I dashed off the edge... re-spawned... dashed off the edge right away.
later I find out that kid won the whole thing... and he was a pushover... after that stupid thing I stopped playing for a little while.
About one year later, a bit before brawl I jumped on it again and tried out Link. suddenly insane level 9's that I could never hope to beat became wimps. and with him I could do just about any challenge in the game. The moves were perfect and i could combo just about anyone.
I even had a friend who I played with, he used yoshi, and he would never die and I could never beat him. you could call him a master of yoshi. I faced him as Link and he lost the first match. I was so happy.
Then brawl came out... I still haven't bought it... I played it over at a friend's house, picked link, links moves were slower, less fluid, jumps were short, and his knock-back and attack was nerfed. I was so mad, my best character had been killed. haven't played brawl since.
