Hello, hackers :)

Me and Sagie from Sunrise are going to do a Golden Sun marathon on Saturday for Extra Life.

Extra Life is like a gaming marathon to benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Last weekend, thousands of gamers worldwide played games for 24 hours to raise money for Extra Life: Save the Kids, all of which went to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals all around the world.

We are going to do our bit too: from 5am to 5pm CDT on Saturday (10am-10pm GMT) we will be racing to see which of us can complete the first Golden Sun game fastest. This is not a speed-run, we're just ordinary folks, but we'll be racing and trying to raise money for these kids.

Please consider donating to this cause, and checking out our race on Saturday. You can donate at the link below--the suggested donation is $1 an hour, so just $12. It's tax-deductible and all of it goes to the kids. You can also check out our Twitch stream when it goes live Saturday morning. We'll upload everything later too for anyone that misses it.

To donate see our Extra Life page,
To watch us on Saturday here is our Stream.

Even if you can't donate, please help us by sharing this info with everyone you know, especially other GS fans. We'd love it if you'd come watch our stream and cheer us on.

I'm sooo going to check this out!

Do you have a turbo controller? Might want to get one, for the prologue, since you will be mashing the B button to skip dialogue.

Great, I hope to see you there.

Actually we're skipping Vale and Sol Sanctum, for the sake of trying to get the rest done in 12 hours XD Or at least as much as we can.

We are planning to keep the fund raising going by tackling TLA in 6 hour bursts. This time we want more people to join us and stream along side. We also want to donate to a different cause and are discussing who.

If anyone is interested you can join the discussion here: http://s7.zetaboards.com/GoldenSunrise/topic/9196064/1/

Otherwise once everything is decided I'll swing by again to let you know.

We decided to raise money for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Boarders) who are an independent humanitarian medical aid organisation. They are committed to providing medical aid where it is most needed, regardless of race, religion, politics or gender and also to raising awareness of the plight of the people they help. You might have heard more recently about the work they're doing fighting the Ebola outbreak.

The plan is to invite everyone to "run along" with us as we play Golden Sun: The Lost Age. We will be racing to beat the game in a number of 6 hour bursts. Starting on the 22nd of November from 9am-3pm CST (3pm-9pm GMT) though these times may change slightly.

We want as many people to play along side us (streaming if possible) as we can get. We ask that everyone taking part donates at least $5, but anyone can watch along even if you can't donate. We're going to have a big skype chat with everyone whose playing (streaming or not). Those that want to transfer data from GS1: we will be providing our passwords (approx. lvl 25), you can use your own, but for fairness' sake please do not use data with characters higher than level 30.

Also I've volunteered to go a bit further to thank donators: those that donate more than $10 (whether they participate or not) will be sent a specially designed thank you card along with stickers to commemorate your contribution (provided they are willing to give an address, which will not be used for anything else I swear).

If you want to take part please either pm me here or email goldensunriseadmin@gmail.com with the name you have/plan to donated under, you're twitch/skype account and an address if you want a thank card. We'll get you on the list and send you updates on this event including future dates. I personally promise if you email us we will not use your email for anything beyond the scope of this event.

I'll keep dropping by with updates as they come.

You could also suggest Post Office Boxes (P.O. Box), if people feel too afraid to give home addresses... that way, I think your privacy can still be maintained... It might be possible to get the stuff in the PO Box to be re-directed to your home, but don't know, or don't remember what I read once. ; I think PO Boxes cost money, however.

Did you know? In English, you are suppose to capitalize the languages. (e.g. English is a proper noun.) Subjects like math, science, history can be left lower-cased unless they are a title. (Kind of like how you can say either "my mom" or "Mom" in "I went with (X) to the store.", except that I don't think languages are ever lower-cased in English.) In Spanish, both subjects and languages are left lower-cased. (I put this here because I've noticed people make this mistake quite often. And am curious if they know about this, and whether they use their way because they believe this grammar usage should have never been a thing?

Hmm, I wouldn't really know how to set that up, I could look into it, but there's the added issue of sending stuff abroad, I'm based in the UK.

Me neither, just thought it might be worth mentioning. Just in case. (Although, the pricing may make it a bit of an inconvenience. Not exactly sure of the prices, but this one shows it in the 3-digits in British Pound...)

Oh, this is really nice! I would definitely consider donating if I weren't broke. And having fun is definitely a good way to raise money for charity (and getting others in on the fun is even better). I might try to figure out this streaming business, but I'm going to be pretty busy for a while.

So yeah, I hope this charity event goes well!

Even if you can't donate it would be great if you came and watched to support us, if you can.

If you need any help with streaming: I'm no expert, but I've worked out the basics.

Even if you can't join this 1st session one of us could always transfer our save file (we're streaming using the visual boy) and you might be able to join on a future week.

So just a reminder:

-This is happening on Saturday at 9am-3pm CST, if anyone wants help working out what time that is for you let me know.

-If you want to play then you should donate $5 between now and then and also let me know your twitch and skype accounts so we can add you.

-If anyone wants a thank you card please donate $10 any time in the lead up to the event, during or for the week after and some how get your address to me, via pm here would probably be easiest. (I'll try to circulate a mock up of the card later today)

-Please everyone: come and support us if you have time on the day, even if you can't donate.

So far we have 5 people who want to play, others are waiting to see if they'll be free, lots of people have shown support though and will be watching us.

To donate go here: https://www.justgiving.com/GoldenSunrise/
To watch on the day go here: multitwitch.tv/miva_sunrise/revyb

CST = Central Standard Time?

My time zone is EST (Eastern Standard Time), so for me, I'd probably add an hour? Whether I at least visit on the day, is unknown, but there's a likely chance I'll at least take a peek. Even if as a guest/not logged in.

I've done a mock up of what the thank you card might look like:

Front:

Inside:

If anyone wants to provide a cute GS picture to go inside the card please post it here or pm me. Sagie, who is better with the words will be telling me what to write inside soon XD

Any feedback is welcome.

Majora: Import old forum posts for reference, perhaps take posts containing important info like documentation away from the old stickied forum post model and make them into their own pages on a site with an in-built search bar. Might help with SEO, too. If nothing else, perhaps whipping them into PDFs and hosting them via Scribd? The possibilities are boundless when it comes to restructuring a site
December 09, 2017, 04:20:02 AM
Majora: Just a nice idea to have even if it doesn't come to fruition. Updating, modernizing, always a good idea. Could probably do something pretty nifty using a good Wordpress theme
December 09, 2017, 04:15:45 AM
Majora: Would be kind of neat to do something like that for GSHC. Could change it up a bit to show all tweets/instagram posts/facebook posts/golden sun subreddit posts all in one sidebar. It would be cool in that it gives the site it's on (and the topic in general) appear more lively and active, which is a plus
December 09, 2017, 04:14:19 AM
Majora: That does sound interesting. One cool thing I've seen some sites use is a sort of unique take on a sidebar option that acts like a social media integration (like, "See GSHC's latest Tweets"). It displays activity from a variety of related sites, such as Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
December 09, 2017, 12:58:53 AM
Fox: And the way it'd work via code is not that all users would instantly get nicknames the minute you register... but rather, the moment you view a name if it doesn't have a nickname, it gets one. (My Thoughts.)
December 09, 2017, 12:53:55 AM
Fox: (I was thinking that it would be "Name (Nickname)" ... The nickname is what you first known the user as, and you can change that yourself... and the Name is what the user wants to be called... Something like that.
December 09, 2017, 12:47:56 AM
Fox: So like... for starters, one idea I had was to make it so anyone can name anyone... much like how it works on Skype, and you (the namer) would be the only one to see it, and such...
December 09, 2017, 12:45:02 AM
Fox: Would need to be carefully thought out and tested, though.
December 09, 2017, 12:43:02 AM
Fox: I'm thinking I could make it so that name changes can happen whenever... (Without any limit)... Since I believe there's a way to do it with minimum confusion. (I think.) Hmm....
December 09, 2017, 12:31:36 AM
Fox: (I mean an offline version... at least initially.)
December 09, 2017, 12:25:01 AM
Fox: Now that I have thought about it a bit more, would I be right to assume that GSHC would be one of the most interesting websites to administrate, or no? It's sad to see not much going on with it. == I almost want to make a concept website at some point. :D Anyway, how is everyone doing today?
December 06, 2017, 12:12:59 AM
Fox: Like... Start using Github or something... Do like how many of those other projects such as Citra (WIP 3DS Emulator) does. Etc.
December 06, 2017, 12:08:12 AM
Fox: No idea. I just wish OpenGoldenSun would release it as unfinished, but oh well.
December 05, 2017, 06:52:09 AM
MaxiPower: Bummed out that the open golden sun project is dead it seems with no actitivy in close to a year at this point. Is there any hope left in any other projects?
November 27, 2017, 10:25:28 AM
Fox: (When I say research, mainly refering to the data in the game, though checking websites can count to a degree.)
November 27, 2017, 09:52:27 AM
Fox: Maybe. But Dark Dawn is meh, hahah... I still research it, though, because data can be interesting.
November 27, 2017, 05:28:36 AM
Portakin: I'm here! This game is underrated!
November 25, 2017, 08:03:23 PM
Fox: .... and the email listed in that post makes me think we should just make a new rules topic with most of the same information. (So the old ones can be sort o archived.)
November 25, 2017, 07:59:47 PM
Fox: "and in addition to the bot being banned, I will remove the advertisement and lock the thread."  ... From what I've seen in the last couple years, this should be changed to "delete the thread."
November 24, 2017, 03:46:07 AM
Fox: Happy birthday Salanewt (Since it is mentioned in the Upcoming Caledar.) And Thanksgiving to my fellow GSHCers!
