Tech, Gaming and Entertainment / Re: Don't Starve

That's no surprise, I suppose. Shortly after leaving due to a certain person's repetitive childish attacks I found myself engrossed into the worlds of Disgaea. I was already a hardcore fan of the series, but it took over my life for quite some time. Then I fell ill for the later half of winter and found myself surgically attached to this laptop, in which case I was retaken by Minecraft and, as of late, Don't Starve, until I remembered this place and thought it would be nice to at least see what's been happening. It's sad to see that things have gotten a little less than active though, and people have left too...

In any case, Don't Starve is an awesome survival game, though... I don't know if I like those kinds of games. ^^;;

Does anyone else play Don't Starve? I got it a couple days ago, and it's a pretty cool survival game. The art is dark and liney, and it's got biomes and habitats you can gather resources from, like minecraft, but not 3-dimentional and you have to not only avoid starving, but not get killed or freeze to death either.

I unlocked all of the characters except for Wes so far, but I usually still play as the default character because his beard protects him a bit in the winter if you don't shave it. Who do you guys like to use if you play?

I also regret to inform that I did edit my game a bit, I made it so that there would be less of the big tree spirit monsters. Not none, just less, because those things are pretty brutal and take me too long to kill. I'm sitting at day 267 right now and I have over 12 chests stuffed with bunnies (lol) inside my castle that's got a three wall set-up like the city in Attack on Titan (can't remember what the anime was called, but that's the english title for the manga). It protects me pretty well from the hounds.

I've also found that it's a lot of fun to wait until you're under 60 sanity because of all the weirdness, so I tend to try to keep myself at that point.

If there's anything I can do to help, let me know. I might be able to do some models for the monsters or retexture something. I really love minecraft so a GS mod is right up my alley. Equipting abilities would be pretty cool too, if we could get that going.

Uuuuuu~! That's a really nice reference pic, better than going from memory lol~ I'll have to use that next time. The colouring is on purpose, it's due to the lighting and such, but I'll deFfinately keep all of that in mind - especially the eyes, looking at that I shrunk those things to like... a third of their size, yikes... lol thanks~!

It's been a while, so I thought I'd add to this. I've gotten faster at drawing, though I can't draw in the same style used in Golden Sun (it just doesn't work for me), and even faster at colouring. Attatched is a little thing that took me like... half an hour I guess. Including the stopping to type with my buddies time.

Misc. GS Hacking / Re: How Sprites Are Made
27, October, 2011, 03:47:20 AM
There's a lot of ways to do sprites isn't there? I bring my zoom in Photoshop to 600, create myself a palette usually based off my favourite colours or palettes used by my favourite games, and then I just start doodleing. I keep a 50% transparent white layer inbetween layers [I do each frame on a different layer] so I can tell how the character is moving.
and, even though his head moves too much [one of my very first sprites], were both made using Photoshop.

Feedback / Cbox rules, and Zman controversy

Hey, Momiji, just a word of advice, but maybe you should stay out of this. Heck, I've been here longer; I know that when things like this happen, it's better to let the others fight it out. Whoever still cares will fight it out and it will get a conclusion. If you jump in, it'll be like running in front of a tank thinking you can stop it. I know you want to help, and I dont want your effort to end up in you getting hurt, okay?

Also, please, if you have a reply to this, take it to PM with me so we dont take up any more space on the battleground, alright?

To Sala:
1. alrighty. i'll look at my calendar and choose a launch date most likely towards the second week of february

2. That's what im thinking too... maybe Flint, but mia's djinni would share an appreciation for it. this way, Flint would paint with grounded up rocks, sands, and pigmants like various culturs to recreate a watercolour-like painting. Mia and her djinni can read it, but no one takes them seriously, and isaac is mute, so he cant tell anyone what  the paintings mean anyways. could turn out pretty cute.

3. id laugh if he accidently makes a sound in a tense moment and, spooked, oe of the other character turns around so fast, they slam Isaac in the face and knock a tooth out. thatd teach him not to squeek, lol XD

To Atrius:
lol, and yeah, following the cover page will be a page that explains how to reads that will cover a few styles that people can submit. there will be an arrow at the top indicating whether to read left to right or the reverse, and numbers inside the squares would indicate box order if using boxes, while nubers outside, or sitting on the line, indicate what strip to read if there is more than one strip on a page, and whatnot. that way, when a comic is posted, the arrow at the top tells you how to read, and teh signature at the bottom tells you what artist did what comic.

hm... what do you think the launch date should be then? Near the beginning of february?

but yeah, i was thinking maybe one of the djinni could be an abstract artist, and only one of the characters (most likely mia?) would have enough appreciation for art to make out the maps in the paintings or something silly like that. im gonna have isaac get abused and no one will listen to him and sillyness like that (cuz he's basically mute, lol), and a few other things.

but yeah, im still picking around on thoughts for now.

anyays, here's the first two strips. thyre roughly sketched because im not looking for consistency. sometimes i'll do really awesome stuff, sometimes they'll be sketchy like this. that way, if people sign up, they sign up to have fun and to not be pressured to do something fun.

fairly good, for now im just replaying teh first game and comming up with a loose script. ive drawn 2 comics, and the main page is done and everything, i just wanna make sure i'll have a head start before i actually launch it. i dont ant to end up going more than a month without putting up something, ya know?

i think the single picture for major areas is a cute idea. i was going to put in something similar using comic boxs and stuff. you're more than welcome to make some pictures like that if you want. the first places are Vale and Sol Sanctum, so if you want to, go ahead ^^~.

one of the things i was going to do was take snapshots and make maps to show where all the items are, indicated but the item's sprite. im largly undecided for it though, but i liked the thought.

no problem. if you dont mind some advise, i think you should take one of the pages that use text most diversly, then save a few copies of the page each with a different text or font. then, post it, and see what you're friends and current fans think.

also, one more thing, try to avoid comic sans ms, or whatever it was. i use it a lot sometimes, and i know people hate it. its because people dont use anything else, so it annoys the heck out of people when its the only font they see.

hopefully that helps~

its okay as a webcomic, just play with the text if you ever wanna publish sometime or something. also, id play with it before i got like... 100 pages in, because you'll be bored out of your mind changing 100 pages worth of comic text ^^; (20 pages is annoying for me)

its a little rough... the text is the thing i have a problem with. for the most part, the font doesnt suit the comic at all. However - other then the unpleasent font, i really like it... the style is cute and unique. if i was a publisher, id publish it after changing fonts a bit, i think there are people that would definately read it.

have you tried posting it on SmackJeeves? it might be a bit easier to get opinions by using the forums there. you might find some helpful information that way too. just a thought.

seriously though, i really like it.

haha, yeah, thats what i based it off of, sala XD

and Jamie, the reason he doesnt have pants is one of the jokes im gonna put in the comic. he's gonna forget his pants. later, in GSDD (if i get that far) Matthew will also loose his pants everytime he climes a tree or something. its just something that i thought would be funny. it is a parody, after all, so odd stuff will happen.

hm... okay, in my next sketches i'll try centering or changing the design of her upper-body clothes. i'll deffinately looking into some archeologist thoughts though... that might be cute.

daw, chili is cute~ XD im gonna go through the game anyways and once i find chili, he'll have a picture in the encyclopedia thats a bit bigger and will help me more.

anyways, in my free time, i sketched something else for a comic im starting up, haha.
a golden sun parody-style walkthrough done in comics. this is going to be the cover, when im done with it. what do you guys think?
