Creative Works / Re: Golden Sun BYOND

Define in the works...?  This is still on the backburner.  I still need base sprite icons with interchangeable pieces....  Which I can technically do, technically, with a little thing I like to call pixel editing...  but it's not easy, and it's a LOT of work.  If I had someone to definitively help with one job or the other, (coding or iconning), I could likely pick up the other and at least get started.  But the job is daunting for a single person, and I hate working alone, which was part of the point of making this thread originally: to get people to help.
But no, it's not abandoned.  In fact, it's just waiting for the right moment...  Trust me.  One day, this WILL be a reality.  And it'll be epic.  I hope...

I didn't think that species as a whole were linked with psi energy.  I thought it was just an individual thing.

Though it is interesting that the only beastman we know to have psi-powers had jupiter powers, just like those werewolves.

Sveta was a fanservice character...  Players had been wanting to play a werewolf since the start of TLA.  And so they gave us a werewolf.  Sorta.

About the time the game ended, for me.  It was around then that I realized Himi showed up way too late.  And that was MY only real complaint with the gameplay.

Sounds like someone didn't read the first post.  BYOND is the "medium" I plan to make the game in.  But in order to really get anywhere with it, I need my icons.

Quite frankly, this project is a valid one.  Totally doable.  And expanding on it is easy... once I have a base to expand on.

Stylistically, I'd like to keep with the old games.  I have the GBA sprites and such to work with, and my intention was to use them, but my biggest problem lies in creating NEW material.  Such as new psynergy, or new characters, etc.  That's why I need a pixel artist.  Some of it I can do.  Some of it...  I can't.

I microwave paper towels all the time.  Never had issues.

mods tend to prefer to "keep the peace" rather than solve the problem.

Looking a few posts above, you'll notice Kioll say something like "I'm not going to tell," and then you go ahead and basically tell everything.  While I thank you very much for that, why do you suppose Kioll was saying "I'm not going to tell?"

In truth, I've known about Charon's return to the site for a while.  I talk to her on Skype.  Also, Sala.  In truth, I know pretty well what's going on with the topics you've brought up.  And in truth, it's not my story to tell.

In truth, Role may or may not have been bullying.  But to be fair, some of us have bullied back, I suppose.  In truth, I've done some of that myself.  In truth, I've always hated mods that are about "keeping the peace", and have never been that kind of mod when I've been a mod.  If you're a mod and the community loves you 100%, you're doing something wrong, usually.

In truth, this whole story is probably better off buried.  In truth, I'm certain that several people know more than they've told here.  And in truth, you've learned about all that you will about this story from the site itself.  The only way to learn more is to talk to Role, Charon, and Sala themselves, and find out from them what you seek.  Because frankly, as much as I know about this, in truth, it's not my story to tell.

1.  I want to make a game whose shape is not clearly defined but is getting more and more defined.
2.  The way to help is mostly in the form of making sure work gets done...  Either by pestering me into it or doing it.  Right now, I really need to start with the character creation system, and the best way to get that to happen is to get some pixel work done on building a character icon base and customizable parts.

Personally, I thought that the whole renaming/new picture thing was hilarious.  The problem Role had, I think, was that they were left that way for 3 or 4 days.  She said "It's not April Fools' Day anymore.  Change it back!"

Coincidentally, does anyone know how April 1st came to be known as "April Fools' Day"?

The problem is that Golden Sun being what it is, none of the existing games really spring to mind as "resembling it".  However, if you go to the thread I made about it, you can get a feel for what I want.  I honestly could care less whether it's a modded ROM or a from-scratch game, but I want to add so much...  I'd need additional class slots, too.

First off, the forum isn't a game.  Not in that aspect, anyways.  Secondly, I tend to play a lot of MMO's, and I think it would be a really good world for interaction between adepts.  I'm also fond of large scale roleplaying, such as MMORPG's are capable of making possible.

She was hyper-critical (everything had to be just right; i.e. her way).  As for why -255?  255 is the largest number that can be held in a binary byte (8 0's and 1's...  if 00000000 is 0, 11111111 is 255).  So yes, because of significance.

We wanted to hit -255 for reasons.  We did...  And to be fair, Role has earned the ire of most of us...  Trying to decide how the site should be run, trying to tell people how they should and shouldn't make their hacks...  She even had the balls to try and tell me how to code my from-scratch game.  Even though I said from the start it would be slightly different from the original games.  No offense, Misery, but the reputation system is a way of showing how others view her.  It was aimed at her, not everyone else, so that she would know she was unpopular with us without us having to tell her to her face (I dislike confrontation, myself.)

Atrius said it, not me.  I thought about saying it, but I was good!  I'm NOT telling anyone ANYTHING.  Nope.

First off, the challenge dungeons are too easy by the time they're available.  Once you beat the final boss, not much compares...  Secondly, I feel sorry for you that the customization of the game went unappreciated.  Go read up on the classes of Golden Sun.

Because I'm a huge fan of Golden Sun, and I wanted to build a game where people could make their own adepts, choose their appearance and element, lead their own team, etc.

Alright, I'll be mature and own up.  I admit it.  I helped in getting Role's respect down.  We aimed for -255.  I even got banned for using a second account to do it...

To answer the original question...  It's more powerful to code a game from scratch, but simpler to hack.  So people hack because it's what they know how to do, as opposed to coding a new one, which most people don't.  For instance, I have a thread on this site about a Golden Sun MMO I want to code.  It has gotten nowhere, however, because I haven't gotten anyone to do pixel art for it.  So, ya know.

I expect the reason "Sala" left was just because he (she?) realized he was too committed to this community--perhaps even too dependent on it, in terms of what he did on a daily basis (it's the same with anyone if they find themselves checking the same forum on a daily basis, or even multiple times a day).  And so he freed himself (I apologize if I'm assuming too much.  I mean to make general observations, and don't claim to know the specifics of you and your friends).

Salanewt (a guy, by the way), left for other reasons.  As a person who considers himself in the know on this sort of thing, I will inform you that Sala left not because he felt trapped, but because he felt like he wasn't needed.  Also, he was pushed away slightly, by who or what I won't say.  Regardless, Sala still produces stuff that gets put up here occasionally, just doesn't do it himself.

Your other ideas are fine, by the way...  Also, I officially have to thank you for proving I'm not the only person who knows what NaNo is.
